I’ve noticed the same things and it’s really crazy to see. I grew up in the era where the 2nd region title ran through the 8th district. It was not that long ago it seemed HHS, CC, and UHA were all very strong basketball programs and perennially top 5 teams in the region. The talent that came through the area from 2011-2018 was impressive. Anthony Hickey, Donovan Kates, Jalen Johnson, Tray Hollowell, KyKy Tandy, Jordan Majors, Detorrion Ware, Jaylen Sebree and the list could go on. I am not a fan of the consolidation but hopefully with this change comes a revitalization of the basketball program.

I also thought McCracken was over 2000 but I also thought Christian County was over 1200 and Hopkinsville was closer to 1100. I guess I overestimated several of the enrollments.

According to the KHSAA’s 2024-2025 school enrollment list has the old CCHS at 1,151 and HHS at 965. So adding those two together I’d say the 2026-2027 enrollment for the consolidated CCHS should be around 2,100. So the school should have an enrollment similar to Ballard, Bryan Station, Lafayette, and Madison Central and a couple hundred students bigger than McCracken County and Henderson County. I would be very excited if Kerry Stovall is named the head coach. Off the top of my head I can’t remember a head coach in the 2nd region that has been more successful than Haworth other than Stovall.

Spurlock and Langhi is quite the head to head matchup. I’ve seen both teams play several times this year and I think Boyd is the better overall team but Boyd is not deep at all so foul trouble could be a problem for them. Anything can happen this time of the year but I’ll take Boyd to win this one.

This should be one of the top jobs in western Kentucky if not the entire state. I’m very interested to see who all applies for this job. Coaching at what I expect will be the biggest school in the state and considering the level of talent that has come through Hopkinsville and Christian County prior to the merger should make this a very desirable position.

To follow up what PTown Dad said. PT hasn’t won a regional championship since 2010. They lead the region all time with 27 regional championships. I believe their championship drought is the longest in their storied history. The last time Marshall and Tilghman played was at PT on January 23rd when the Marshalls won by 11 however that was right before the 3 new players were ruled eligible and PT has been playing much better since the beginning of February. I think Marshall has the edge but Tilghman is definitely capable of winning this game. This may be a battle of the two best non seniors in the region with Langhi and Thompson going head to head.

Final per the scoreboard. I know Daviess has been the favorite in the 3rd region all year but from the outside looking in it appeared like Daviess was a little off later in the season. The Panthers did beat Grayson 68-64 a few weeks ago at Daviess. Congrats Grayson County.

Final per the scoreboard. Does anybody have any info on this one? It’s crazy the progress PT has made from the beginning of the season. They’ll play Marshall in the regional championship game on Sunday.

Final per 99.5 the fan. Marshall wins the one that matters. Matthew Langhi hit 2 free throws at the end to put the Marshalls up 3 and Garrett Miller had a heave at the end but it didn’t fall. Per the McCracken radio guys free throw shooting was the difference in this one. Marshall will play the winner of Paducah Tilghman and Murray for the region 1 championship.

I watched the game on the Total Media Sports YouTube and it was a good competitive game. I think Elliott County did a good job of controlling the tempo of the game. Also they did a great job against Spurlock and Rimmer. I believe Spurlock finished with 18 and Rimmer finished with 2. Malachi Payne was big for Boyd which is what makes this team so dangerous they have several players that shoot the ball really well and are capable of scoring a lot of points.

I agree. I think McCracken is the better offensive team but Marshall is the better defensive team. This game could go either way and it’s hard to beat a good team three times in a row but I’m sticking with the Mustangs! In the second game I’ll take Tilghman in a competitive track meet of a game. PT has really played well in the last few weeks now that their entire team is healthy and eligible (minus Caruthers). Since we can’t get a McCracken/ Marshall championship game I think a McCracken/ Tilghman championship game would be just as exciting. The 2nd district title game was fantastic and I’d love to see their 4th meeting.

Per McCracken County Mustangs and Lady Mustangs Sports Updates on Facebook Miles Woodfork led the Mustangs with 23 points followed by Grogan with 13, Adams with 12, Martin with 8, and Klope with 7. Garrett Miller was not mentioned so I assume he did not play. Hopefully he will be back for the semifinal game against Marshall County.

I really like this Boyd County team. Them and McCracken County have been my favorite teams to watch this year. If Boyd can avoid a slow start against Ashland I like their chances to win this region. I believe they started the first two meetings with the Tomcats down 9-0. Boyd is my pick to win the region but it should be a fun regional tournament.

I’m glad the bracket has Henderson and Lyon on opposite sides. I predict the two will meet in the region championship game and give me Lyon County to win the second matchup with the Colonels to return to Rupp.

I agree with this. I think it will be closer than the 41 points that McCracken beat them by earlier in the year but I don’t foresee Mayfield beating the Mustangs. Just for fun I looked and McCracken County and Mayfield have played 17 times and McCracken is 15-2 all time against Mayfield and only 3 of those 17 matchups were single digit games.

Tilghman has improved tremendously! If Avery Thompson plays the way he did in the district tournament I like their chances against Graves and the Carlisle/Murray winner. I would still take McCracken or Marshall to win the region but PT is capable of making a run in Murray.

I would really like to see Owensboro and Paducah Tilghman to schedule each other.

Amazing post! Thanks for taking the time to put that together. I’ve been lucky enough to see several Hoptown/ County basketball games over the last decade or so and it was electric every time. The state is truly losing one of its’ best rivalries unfortunately.

Caruthers was in street clothes during the post game awards ceremony. My assumption is he is still not playing but I have not heard anything new.

This was a really fun game and Avery Thompson put PT on his back and led them with 31 points. In the end Miles Woodfork was the best player on the floor. Woodfork finished with 34 and put the game away with 2 steals leading to transition buckets at the end of the game. I know it’s been said a couple times on here but this PT team is significantly better than they were earlier in the year. Congrats Mustangs! The future is bright for Coach Davis and PT.

This Boyd County team is fun to watch. Jacob Spurlock, Malachi Payne, and Caleb Rimmer are a fantastic trio. Congrats Boyd County.

I’ll take Boyd in a shootout. Ashland won at Ashland 82-69 and at Boyd County 93-86. Give me Boyd 82-79. I really like this Boyd team and really hope they can win the one that matters against Ashland in the region tournament.
