Probably should just move to Tuesday March 10 but if Boyd isn't hitting Russell would have a shot but if they play anywhere near the way they have played the past couple of weeks Ashland is the only team with a shot. 

I still believe Ashland will win the 16th. They have defeated Boyd twice during the regular season and it took a last second long ball for Boyd to win the district in their home environment. 

Sleeper would be Russell.  They could upset one of the big two but hard to see them doing it twice.

12:00 - Boyd County (64th Champion) vs. Elliott County (62nd runner-up)

• Jacob Spurlock nailed a late 3 to down the rival Tomcats and give the Lions their first district crown since 2024. The Lions from Sandy Hook took out West Carter in the semi-finals before falling to Morgan County in the 62nd district finals. These two haven’t met this season and on paper, this looks to be a Boyd County rout. 

 

1:30 - Russell (63rd Champion) vs. Fleming County (61st runner-up)

• An intriguing first round matchup. All season the devils have been the one constant threat to another Boyd-Ashland final and rolled to a district title. Fleming lost an 18 point lead after 3 quarters in their district final against Rowan County. This will come down to if Russell can hit shots against the Fleming zone. I’ll take the devils easy. 

 

6:30 - Morgan County (62nd Champion) vs. Raceland (63rd runner-up)

• The Cougars won their fourth straight 62nd district championship over the rival Lions of Elliott County. An impressive run through 15-9 East Carter and 16-9 Elliott County have them thinking they can hang with anyone. Raceland hung with Russell for a while but eventually the Devils were too much. The Rams have the size to create problems for Morgan. Give me Raceland to get over the hump and get the victory. 

 

8:00 - Rowan County (61st Champion) vs. Ashland (64th Runner-Up) 

• The Vikings found a way to overcome a 20 point deficit to Fleming County and win at the buzzer. What is your reward for such a great comeback and victory? The 7-time defending Region Champion Tomcats fresh over a last second loss to their arch rivals. Rowan is young and has nobody with experience playing on the big Morehead floor. Again on paper this looks like an Ashland rout.

Tuesday, March 10th at 7:00

I really like this Boyd County team. Them and McCracken County have been my favorite teams to watch this year. If Boyd can avoid a slow start against Ashland I like their chances to win this region. I believe they started the first two meetings with the Tomcats down 9-0. Boyd is my pick to win the region but it should be a fun regional tournament.
