Looks like Dragons wins came against pretty weak teams!

Taylor defense was strong. No serious threat from Metcalfe. Taylor in wishbone a great deal. Threw when had to but very big fullback with Goodin at tailback. 4 different players scored. Kicker had 4 touch backs on kickoffs so kept Metcalfe pinned in their end.

As a beginning coach I had 2 teams, grades 5 thru 8. No stat person so I had someone film games on the old tapes and I then reviewed and got stats. Wrote the articles for the local newspaper and sent them in. The kids and parents told me numerous times how they looked forward to the paper each week. Always positive and found a way to complement each player in a years time. I guess you guys are correct that is all in the past. PS: Older Coach wins, he is 1 year 5 months older!

Sometimes via Danville on line paper. My wife has to have the CJ delivered for what reason I do not know. I can tell you for sure high school coaches and radio broadcasters are using BGP and KHSAA scoreboards for results via their phones.

Receiving = 4 points Total 58 points I don't know or have ever seen this guy play but must be a heck a player. Austin Matney 42 yds. Rushing = 4 points 51 yds. No irony intended, contradicting the majority of this thread was my purpose! I said I'd chose Hilton 10-1 to coach my kid over the other coach. Dudley teaches kids real life toughness and winning. I did not say he didn't have any bad habits or is an angel. Most winning coaches "have bad habits". Bob Knight was a great coach with bad habits, yet I would chose him to coach my son over 95% of other coaches. I said it was my job to teach my kid right from wrong, good behavior from bad. Now for facts, one of Dudley's assistants filmed the scrimmage. Did he tell him to or was this his lame idea. Clearly against the rules but I can't begin to believe Dudley knew he was doing it. There was no advantage for them to do it! Scrimmaging extra, well truth be known many coaches put the pads on early, hit early, and break that rule. All camps have hitting and if two teams are there, scrimmaging. I think a major issue is coaches having kids hit 1 on 1 with no pads, only helmets. KHSAA rules have caused this behavior. No human, deserves being publicly humiliated by unidentified post on a web site. As said before, it is plain and simple "CRAP!!!" and many of you just keep piling on!

First, I have seen that anyone who is successful in life or coaching; they have enemies. Seems there are more losers here in Kentucky than winners. They then pile on when the winner makes a bad call. Dudley has given many years to the coaching profession, I have coached against him and yes he put up 50+ on us. I do think we had 28 or somewhere around that. His team was better and we fought to keep it close. I have coached against Campbellsville and they were always on the short end of the scoreboard and crying about us running up the score. The irony of this thread is amazing!!!! My point, Dudley has dedicated his life to coaching and I'm sure has helped more than he has ever hurt or taught bad habits. I personally know both of the coaches being discussed in this thread and if I had a kid who needed a coach, Dudley would be my choice 10 to 1. Why? I like coaches who are winners, it is my job as a parent to raise my child and teach them right from wrong. Good behavior from bad. Life will present them many challenges, they will need to be prepared to handle them all and you the parent won't be there to help them at that moment. Thoughts from an Old Coach who gave it up due to this kind of crap!!!!

The last two regular season games between these two were good ones, with Green winning both of them (the last in OT in Lexington). This bunch of players for Green have taken to the new coach (Hunter Jackson). 20 Seniors dressed and playing with well over 50 on the squad. LCA had better buckle their chin straps because they are going to need them Friday night. And yes TSYoung, you guys at Monroe hope they buckle because you well remember the battles the two have had in the past. You have a very strong program and got a great win last week but I think the storm is starting to brew in Green County again!!

Hellcats, in no way was I trying to put down any individual coach and as slinging sammy stated was more about the culture that exists currently. I read your statements and feel we are in agreement that pay is too low, the administration is lost, and most programs are in trouble. There are exceptions in many cases, and that is good. My point was and is we need to focus on this, an environment that rewards and encourages those good young coaches to develop themselves and rewards them is mandatory! An 85% success rate in KY HS football would deliver rewards to the 40 to 60 young men in the programs that are basically "priceless". Most comments in this tread are in agreement I think!

21 years coaching as a volunteer. Baseball, basketball, and football. 2/3 rds of those years a head coach. I can say that Kentucky has a serious leadership problem in the area of HS football. Jimmy Reed was very active and led a pretty good coaches association for many years but it has faded away. The young generation has a "me" first attitude. Selling everything and anything to supplement their income, not focused on the kids well being and success. How can a coach speak of commitment when they are gone at the drop of a hat for many different reasons. Some not of their choosing but many moving on in their careers. The game is no longer understood and is looked at by many as a "Gladiator Sport", one that many feel should just go away. For those of us who love the game, believes that coached correctly it creates men of high character and work ethic. This is scary. Credentials should be established for head coaches, they should be required to be adhered to, and pay should meet the standards necessary to motivate top people to get into coaching. Some schools are running programs weaker than junior league programs I have been involved with. I wish there was hope of fixing this issue but odds are 100 to 1 it will get worse. The issue, unknowing administration using the available dollars for everything but improving football. PS: For all the education first people out there, Kentucky is in the bottom 20% of that process as well. Same administration runs that process as well.

Pigskin Junkie, I joined BG Preps to give you the following information but in the process others have beat me to it. My son was a National Merit Scholar, Captain of his football team and wanted to be an engineer. He was recruited by many div III schools in the northeast where we lived at the time and spent time at Yale with legendary coach Carmen Cozza. Net he was Kentucky born and had his mid-western heritage and after many visits decided on Washington University in St. Louis. Larry Kindbom was the coach then and is in his 26th season as Head coach. The cost back then was $28 K a year and he got about 25% of that amount in academic scholarship. There is no money for athletic scholarships in D III. One thing is that most of the top academic schools will adjust to the need base of any athlete and help them with their financial need. The other school in this area I am extremely impressed with is Rose Hulman. Not as flashy as Washington University but in a smaller setting and with many less distractions. And as of lately the better football program. Some asked why spend $200 K for a degree, well the Rose Hulman football player that graduates has a starting salary that averages around $90 K. As an engineer myself, a son who was successful graduating as a Mechanical Engineer from Washington University the journey is worth it. You know the rewards of competitive football, it takes a hard worker to make it through this journey, if your son really wants it help him through it. Email me offline if you want to discuss 1 on 1. One other point, good NAIA schools, Lindsey Wilson for one and D III schools will not pull the academic scholarship if there is an injury or even if you decide to give up football for some reason.
