Johnson Central 21 Huntington High (WV) 14 (Scrimmage)
Correct. He is a junior. RB/DB. Played his whole freshman year (to include Ashland games: they had seen him before) and came back out late in sophomore year (last season). Played football every year since 4th grade in Johnson County. Should not have been surprise.

You have Binghams little brother who is a freshman now stepping into his spot and he is way better than the older version who got a scholarship to Marshall. Andrew Clifton steps into the line as well. That's a kid that benches 400lbs. Joe Jackson returns in the back field and Devan Johnson (being recruited in the SEC and ACC at MLB) doesn't have a broke arm with cast this year. Cody Rice might be the fastest kid in the school and he only played at end of season last year. Like I said, the offense is way ahead of defense. Something else to consider is the large and talented freshman and sophomore classes they have. The freshman are coming off a middle school state championship and very talented at lots of positions. The sophomores are deep and athletic as well. However, this collection of talent is just that. A collection of talent. It will take time to gel as a team but the potential is there to be very very good. Not 2016 good IMO, but they could get close if they put it all together. Look for this team to get better as the year goes on. I'm interested to see how the long trip up north on 3 days rest affects JCs preparation and focus. 1A or not, Beechwood is a dang good team that can play with and/or beat anyone outside maybe Trintiy. Should be an excellent scrimmage for both.

JC is big and physical as usual. HHS looked wore down at the end and holding their knees. At this point the offense is ahead of the defense as JC continues to develop depth in the secondary (run defense was solid tonight but can improve) . The play of junior QB Ryley Preece is what will really surprise people if that's even possible. Kid was really good last two years as starter and looks even more improved this year. In my opinion he is the best QB in school history (and JC has had some good ones) and it's not even close. His play sometimes gets over shadowed but it shouldnt. Of course Jackson will be the work horse and should go for 2K plus but I look for Preece to run/pass for 2,000+ combine. Not to mention Devin Johnson, Evan Adkins and company. The emergence of Sophomores Zach Russell and Ryan Sartin-Slone at wideouts was an explosive addition tonight as both caught long TDs. Overall JC has a long way to go to be what they can be, but looked solid tonight. It is just a scrimmage too so take it for what its worth.
