It would be nice to know if QB/playmaker, Jeremiah Lee is back for Cooper but of course, I wouldn't leak that information if I were a Cooper follower. It makes a difference. Also, it would be nice to know if England will be caring more than 10-12 times for Ryle. He can make a difference. I guess everyone will just have to show up at game time to know.

It has been moved to Saturday because it is the Star 64 game of the week. It will be televised, like Cooper v. SK last year. Yeah, I don't know who does their programming. I think BW would have made for a better televised event.

Final from Owen Hauck Stadium. GRC is big. Their lineman are like trees and they have a RB who is a horse. They came out quickly and their offense looked like it was unstoppable. I believe it was 21-0 midway through the 2nd quarter. Then the Boone defense started to gets its footing and get some stops. Its like GRC came out with a surge and scored quickly but either the offense tired or the Rebel defense figured out how to slow down the train. Boone got a chance to score just before the half and hit a short pass, Grau to RJ Summers, and Summers bulled his way into the end zone. The score was 21-6 at halftime. Boone Co. had the ball to start the 2nd half but fumbled it away. GRC moved the ball but then the Rebels defense held and the Cardinals had to settle for a field goal to go up 24-6. Boone County made an adjustment at halftime and began to move the ball on offense. I like that they opened up the offense a bit allowing Grau to throw some down the field. He was accurate with his passes and threw a TD pass to Jante Wingo who made a diving catch in the end zone on a tipped ball. Grau threw a nice ball, the defender made a play but Wingo had great concentration and laid out for the catch. He was a little shook up from the play. Missed extra point made it 24-12. The score did not change until the final whistle. GRC was big and determined to stop the run, which they did. There weren't too many times when a RB got past the line of scrimmage without contact. But Boone receivers were open all night. I think Boone County learned something tonight that they can use in future games. Shout out to Jake Woods who had a whale of a 2nd half on the D-line for Boone.

Boone needs a big game from the defense and a big game from an offensive player, and no penalties and no turnovers and stops on special teams.

The Poll is turning into a horse race. GRC and BC are running neck-and-neck.

It looks like MoCo matched them in the run game: Mo Co 269 to 232 for GRC. They both scored 4 TDs and Xpts. MoCo's had 3 rushing TDs and 1 passing. GRC had all 4 on the ground by Thomas. Thomas had 213 yards. MoCo's Korossy had 161 yrds and 1 TD while Wheaton added 79 yards. MoCo completed only 3 passes but one was for a TD. MoCo added a field goal to make the difference in the score. So, it does not appear that MoCo's defense did anything to stop Thomas but the offense did just enough to get the win. That's the story according to the stats sheet, but there is always more to the story.

So what did MoCo do to win? Do they have a stellar defense that stopped the ground game and made GRC to throw with no effect, or do they have a high-powered offense that managed to outscore GRC? They must have done something well to earn an outcome that contradicts what many would have though the outcome should be.

How did Montgomery County beat GRC? Were they supposed to beat GRC? If so, why the Lit Rankings that have GRC rated 6 points above MoCo? I am trying to gain insight into how good GRC is and how to beat them.

The game is at Boone County beginning at 7:30 pm on Friday. George Rogers Clark boasts a 3-2 record, having only lost to Anderson County and Montgomery County. GRC returns a top RB in Nitavius Thomas, who has over 700 yards on the year. Azariah Israel (love the Biblical names) added another 225 yards to the teams rushing totals. Between running and passing, the Cardinals average over 350 yards per game on offense. Can Boone slow them down? Boone County enters the game with a 2-3 record with wins over Holmes H.S. and Dixie Heights. They are coming off their win over the Red Colonels last Friday night. In that contest, Boone put up 314 rushing yards. Senior FB/MLB, Shutt had 187 yrds in 22 carries and 4 TDs. Sophomore RB, Cauvey Vastine, contributed 92 yards on 15 carries. All of that to say that Boone’s best hope for victory against GRC will depend on their ability to score early and often on the ground. In addition, Boone will have to stop the GRC ground game. Nitavius Thomas and Azariah Israel account for a lot of offense for GRC. Since there is no common opponent between these two teams we will have to get a bit creative (and go out on a limb). GRC carries a Litkenhous rating of 90.8 but lost to Montgomery County which has a Lit Ranking of 84.9. Can Boone, with a Lit Ranking of 80.4, overcome this differential with GRC and produce a win on Friday? GRC won this contest last year in Winchester, 59-7. Boone County owned the first half. I think it was 21-0 at halftime. My memory is so bad. Dixie definitely came out fired up right from the second half kick-off. They made it into a really exciting game. It nearly came down to the last play of the game. Dixie battled back to pull within 1 point by scoring with less than 10 seconds remaining. Instead of kicking the point after, they went for two and the win. The attempt went wide right and Boone made the stop to preserve the victory with 3.4 seconds remaining in the game. Had to do the kick and Dixie tried an onside. Boone covered and then did victory formation for the won. It was a gutsy call by Dixie's coach. Dixie seemed to have Boone on their heels. Second guessing, you wonder if they had opted to tie the game and go into overtime would Boone have been able to stop them. The Dixie QB was the catalyst for the comeback. He threw and ran to get his team into a position to win. But Dixie came up a little short. It was a win for Boone!

Turnovers and special teams will go a long way in determining this one. Boone County has been very generous with the football (and drive-killing penalties) so far this season. This have turned otherwise close games into liberal scores for their opponents. You watch their games and you think, the talent level between the teams is close. Boone moves the ball and makes some plays, then they do something boneheaded that kills the drive or gives the ball away. Special teams have been another sore spot. While they have had a few good returns by Wingo that puts them in good field position, they give up lots of ground on kick-offs. S. Oldham ran the ball straight up the middle of the field for 2 TDs last week. There was no surprise in what they tried to do. Somebody has to step up and make a tackle! Grau's punting has been very good and most of the time the ball is downed where it lands. On a positive note, the passing game was looking better last week. Jante Wingo caught a long TD pass from Grau. Grau had a couple of others that were spot on. Boone also seems to be able to run on their opponents. Boone has a good O-line, even without Tevin Merritt. Hopefully, he gets back on the field this week or next. Let's hope Boone can eliminate many of the negative plays that have plagued them against their evenly matched opponent this week, and get this season headed in a better direction. Come on seniors, step up and lead the way!

Dixie is 0-5 entering this game, while Boone boasts a record of 1-3. Boone's lone win came against Holmes H.S. (49-0). Dixie lost close games to Scott H.S. (14-21) and Conner (13-21). Boone also played Conner losing 13-34. Both teams are eyeing this contest as a winnable game for their program. Dixie won this contest in 2017 by a score of 30-0. Who prevails this year and how do they go about accomplishing this goal for their program?

The last time this was played in Oldham County it was a slug fest for three quarters then South Oldham pulled away. I expected that kind of game last year in Owen Hauck stadium but it didn't turn out that way. Boone fumbled the ball on the first 3 possessions and S. Oldham took advantage and jumped out to a quick lead from which they never looked back. Our line was dominated on both sides of the ball and it was a very difficult night for Boone County fans. Unfortunately, I don't know much about South Oldham and would like some insight from any of you who know. It looks like to me that they run the ball a lot and give it to #21 a good bit of the time. He is short and stocky and appears to run with some power. It doesn't look fancy but apparently it is effective. Keaton Martin has over 300 yards in 3 games while the whole team averages nearly 250 yards on the ground each game. This game will be won in the trenches. Boone must stop Martin and the running attack. Boone needs to stop turning the ball over. When you struggle scoring points it certainly puts you in a hole when you give the ball away. The run game for Boone is working. But the passing game is not. It looks like the receivers are not where they need to be on the routes so that Grau can't get comfortable throwing to a spot. He also needs more time before he has to scramble. If the Dragons come out strong and shut the run down, Boone has no where else to go. The most reliable passing has come from short passes to the backs. It was nice to see Wingo get in the run game last week. He has the speed to break long runs and he had two go for TDs. He usually plays out wide but he lined up as RB and it worked well. We'll see how it goes tomorrow night. Go Rebels!

Fantastic thread C_W_B! Thanks for all the work you did. Boone got their stats out late. If they hadn't, Boone's Sophomore Cauvey Vastine would have been listed at #27 among the rushing leaders. His net yards per game are 142. He has 55 rushes for 283 yrds in 2 games. 5.1 yrd/carry ave. and 1 TD. The #1 guy on that list is unreal. Esp. his 14 TDs in 3 games.

If there has been poor blocking, tackling, and poor fundamentals in general, then such a move is warranted.

I like your passion for the Rebels, @RebelDad. We need more of that. Keep commenting on the games. I agree with your assessment of the talent at Boone. This is the best talent in more phases of the game that we've had for awhile. The O-line is looking good in the run game. The sophomore RB is quite good. 158 yards and 125 yards in his first two starts. The running attack is brutal. They will wear some teams down. The only thing that has hampered the run game is humidity and the FB playing three positions (FB/MLB/K). You could see the fatigue by the short kick-offs. When we get past some of this heat it will be less an issue. There is also a fine sophomore FB that has been getting some reps. Boone's run game should be good for the next 3 years. Regarding the secondary, I don't know about schemes but there have been some blown assignments. In the Ryle game, there were two long TDs that happened because the defender just didn't try to cover his guy. Each time he let the receiver run right by him and sort of drifted over towards another receiver that was already covered. That is just a mental error, not the scheme. Contain on the edge is also a recurring issue. We give up too many long runs where the guy is not touched for 15 yards or more. I actually think the DB coach is quite good.

Boone gave up 3 fumbles and an interception against Conner and 4 fumbles against Ryle. That's 8 turnovers in 2 games. That ain't on the coaches.
