  1. First of all, congrats to Mercer and their fans. Mercer is a legit team and the Mercer fans made last night's game have a great atmosphere. Wayne got beat by a better team plain and simple. I think Blevins is going to have a tough time getting a shot off against this team and teams like this and that makes for a long night for Wayne. In regards to the fact that the kid scored most of his points on lay-ups but only drew two fouls...the kid usually had his man beat 15ft away from the basket and drove in for a lay-up with Wayne's bigs making a weak swipe at a block. Yea, maybe there could have been a couple more fouls called in his favor but I don't think it's lopsided enough to say much about it or accuse Wayne's players of riding him without a saddle. I saw some calls and no calls both ways that had me scratching my head. Part of the game...move on and play. Next thing...I don't understand the whole "Wayne cheats at home!!111!!!!!" thing. Wayne has had some great hard nosed teams over the years that have taken care of business at home and away at the very teams' gyms that accuse them of "cHEatING!!1111!!!!!" at home. So...does Rodney have the refs in his pocket to the point that they cheat for him at away venues too?
  2. Coach Thompson does a good job of getting not only his guys to buy in, but the whole community. He's as down to earth as you get, but he can make you want to run through a brick wall for him at the same time. Friday night will be nuts at Jewell Field for sure...
  3. This was a very fun game to watch. Both teams have a beast playing for them...#20 on Clark Moore and #5 on Wayne County.
  4. I'm not surprised Woods let it go down this way...more that other folks in the school system did.
  5. It's been rumored all year but it may have been speculation as much as anything. I had heard as recently as this weekend that he had no plans to retire in the next few years. I'm kind of surprised it was announced with other retirees at a regular board meeting sort of like normal business.
  6. According to Z93 radio, Rodney Woods has announced his retirement after 29 years as the Cardinals head coach.
  7. Yes. Wayne has had at least a couple starters out since the first half of the North Laurel game. Wayne is young and yes, they lost a lot of key players from last year. Many of the kids this year have always played spot minutes behind last year's bunch so they are adjusting. Wayne is the type of school that will have to rebuild from time to time as opposed to just re-loading every year. There is a group of young guys coming up and even though Wayne is 1-4, I feel like the football program as a whole is in great shape. There is a huge interest in football right now from 1st grade on up. It's not uncommon to see Coach Thompson roaming around youth football practices trying to help things run as smoothly as they can. Wayne will be alright.
  8. It was this current school year. I need to clarify after speaking with someone this morning though, one of the kids quit basketball before the first game. Another one of the kids was a hold back from an earlier year. So, there are eleven hold backs for the team for this year. Many of those kids only logged a minute or two per game during the season and some didn't get to play at all most games. This does not include the 3-4 incoming 6th graders that made the team.
  9. A certain school in Southern Ky let 13 6th graders stay back for basketball. If I'm not mistaken, 15 total kids stayed back for sports in that grade alone. This not only messed with the athletics side of things, but also the whole dynamic of the 6th grade class.
  10. Congrats to McCracken. They had a great game plan and stuck to it. Wayne was never really a threat and was "off" the whole game. Part of that is McCraken's defense, but Wayne missed free throws they've made all year. I said in the prediction thread that I was worried about Wayne being cold.....I've seen that story too many times. When I saw Woods hang his head after a few missed shots I knew we were pretty much done. Oh well, a great season for sports for a relatively small school in southern Ky.
  11. On this day 25 yrs ago, Wayne County defeated Bryan Station 62-60 to advance to the State Championship game. They were defeated in that game by PRP with a score of 75-73. I'm hoping our boys have a similar run with a different outcome in the final game this year.
  12. I don't think Wayne will have to worry about the "frenzy" of State since they were there last year. You also have Perkins and Gardner that played in the 3A state football championship game just a few months ago so there *should* be a level of poise there. I do worry about cold shooting though. I've seen teams that have filled it up all year hit Rupp Arena and not be able to throw the ball in the ocean.
  13. This version of the Cards reminds me of the '89 Cards that made it to the championship game falling just short of the title. Very fun group to watch.
