She does need to be punished. She also needs help/rehabilitation for the mental disorder that caused her to live such a big lie. I've watched her grow up as the years gone by and I am more saddened than anything. This is an absolute tragedy, especially because I have people in my life battling cancer right now. I don't see how it's possible to "bounce back" from something like this, but I hope and pray she comes to better terms with reality soon.

I have known this family very well my entire life. It is a sad, sad situation, but one thing is clear: This girl is absolutely ill. I can't be upset at the other people who are judging her, but please remember there is more than one side to every story, and none of us have walked in her or her parents shoes. Just an absolutely horrifying story, and clearly she was seeking attention. She got it alright. Now she'll get a lot more (negative) attention than support I'd bet. Prayers from InItToWinIt, because she has a very serious mental disorder.

The US is the only country in the world that does not have a standard set of basketball rules across all levels. That needs to be fixed and I think we are headed that way.

I think social media is a big factor too. Everyone posts such happy looking moments and pictures with their significant other...And it makes Joe Schmo at home think about how jealous/sad he is being alone.

As a current college student, here are my thoughts on the subject. The college itself typically tries to stay away from specifically pushing the liberal agenda, but they are pretty anti- Republican (or should I say anti-Trump). When Trump one, we had a candlelit celebration of unity or something like that to ensure students will "stick together" during the "difficult time." When his first immigration order was passed banning travelers from certain Middle Eastern countries, we received an email from the interm president reassuring us that we "are a welcoming community" and "do not agree with the Trump's order." When some students wrote in chalk all over campus "Trump 2016" one night, there were janitors cleaning it off first thing next morning, in addition to an email from the dean of students who vowed to launch an investigation. I took a class called "Africa since 1500" (I attend a liberal arts university) where the professor would take shots at Trump almost daily. However my economics 205 professor took minor shots at Obama's policies as well. Most of my business professors are much more conservative, as expected. On almost every professors door there are equal signs and "safe space" indicators. I always wondered about those. My brother attended and liberal arts school in Kentucky, and talked often about how liberal the schools agenda was. He took classes about Christianity taught by non Christians, and the keynote speaker at his graduation was a graduate who created a transgender/gender neutral clothing line. He is extremely far right though so his stories could have been an it exaggerated. Overall, the push for the liberal agenda, at least at my 2000 student school in Ohio, is led by some young men and a lot more young women. I'd say more times than not, fraternity guys lean more right, and sorority girls are pretty evenly split. The more liberal ones absolutely post more about politics and are significantly more judgmental toward those who don't share their views. When Trump won this year, I stayed off social media all day after 11:00 am because I was tired of reading about how racist and homophobic and offensive Trump voters were from the people who preach tolerance.

Was your meeting with a former BGP-er by chance? I know one particularly well who just started a franchise that does just that.

For those who are bored or not "content" with the Catholic Mass, a reminder that all the Mass is guided prayer. It's not about what we want or how we want to pray (sitting, kneeling, holding hands, clapping, etc), it's about what God wants or how He wants us to pray. Outside of 1 hour of your 168 per week, you are allowed to pray however you want: holding hands, sitting, standing, kneeling, wearing sweats, etc.

Coached Jake last summer in AAU. The best thing about him is, he doesn't play for attention or to show off or get into it with other players. He truly just wants to play hard and to win for his teammates. Really happy he got to end his high school career in a memorable way. Well done.

Me, being a Catholic, would invite you to mass and encourage you to attend RCIA classes. At the mass, some people say they do not get anything out of it, and a lot of times it's because they picture it as a show. A show where God is the director, the priest is "the show", and we are the audience. I challenge other Catholics to picture it where the priest is the director, WE are "the show", and God is the audience. Having said that, if you took/take another avenue in another Christian church or tradition, I would/do have no place to judge. As I mentioned in the quoted post, there are elements of Truth in religions other than Catholicism.

Congrats to Scott on a big win. Keep it rolling. Regarding Jake and college opportunities, please keep in mind there are more factors than basketball. For Jake, and for schools looking at Jake. Basketball is the number 1 factor and then there is a big drop off to the next. I realize that. But keep in mind finances, academics, good fit, etc are just a few of the things coaches and players have to consider before committing. I think University of Cumberlands is a GREAT fit for Jake.

If you are a Christian, the ONLY church that can directly trace its lineage to Jesus (& Peter) himself is the Catholic Church. It's also important to remember that Catholics believe (meaning the Vatican teaches) that while the Catholic Church is the fullness of Truth, other religions can have elements of Truth. We also believe that you do not have to be Catholic to get to heaven; it is more like if you do and follow what the Church teaches, that is the ONLY surefire a map/guideline to follow to get to heaven.

A thread about negative student section cheers and no mention of CCH? What the heck? As I always say, we have to remember that these are students 15-18 years old and in a crowd of 150+ of their peers. The mob mentality is real, and every single one of us said something we wish we hadn't at that age. Sad situation all around, but I'm sure the extra attention this site and other social media outlets is bringing to it will get administration's attention and HOPEFULLY they will take care of it.

Just because you don't get a scholarship, it doesn't mean you should not be rewarded for your hard work. I was not born with division 1 height, speed, strength, or skill. I had to work extremely hard, and even got up at 5:30 am to shoot and work on ball handling 4x a week in high school, and I was extremely fortunate to receive about 10 opportunities to play at various division 3 schools. It is something I dedicated my entire high school career to, as I skipped all school dances, had an extremely limited social (party) life, and it kept my grades up in the classroom as well. Only 6% of high school basketball players get to play college basketball at ANY level, including division 3 JV. It is an accomplishment that 6 out of every 100 high school athletes get to experience.
