  1. That makes sense depending on what level you go for. If you're a D1 talent, there are 85 scholarships in football compared to only 13 in basketball. NAIA level is a little tighter with 24 & 11 respectively I think. The preference is obviously basketball at SW and I'm OK with that. Here's to hoping they win the Classic.
  2. My point exactly. Some should be playing football. Good on the hardwood, great on the gridiron. Better college options that route as well.
  3. Southwestern is overrated. Some football players thinking they're basketball stars.
  4. This. Bell has absolutely nothing coming up. You need a nice jump start for a good varsity program and I just don't see it coming in the near future. Nice facilities, yes, but you need much more than that. They'll be back eventually, just not soon.
  5. Good deal. When you say "we," are you referring to being a fan of his Colquitt team? Are you a fan of his team or are you a fan of Georgia high school football in general?
  6. I would like to know what folks on a Georgia High School message board have to say in response to the headbutt video, as well as how they currently view his past transgressions off the field. Anyone with more time want to research and post a quick summary to what they find?
  7. The headbutt I can deal with. I don't think it's as big of a deal as it was made out to be. I want to make it clear that I do not condone his personal actions off the field. I was simply pointing out that in some cases (dare I say most cases), coaches have that "ego" where they think they can do whatever they want to do, even outside of the sport. There are some good, but there are a lot of bad as well. I don't think we should cast stones at a guy in Georgia when we have two at the same school in our own state at Louisville. As far as Pitino and Petrino never headbutting a player...Just because there is no video on social media, doesn't mean it never happened.
  8. I like the headbutt. Whatever gets the team going. Most coaches use techniques that at least one person won't like. Either they're "too hard" or "too soft." Folks have to pick their poison. They're not paying him to be faithful to his wife, they're paying him to win football games. That's something he does very well. Similar situation as Petrino and Pitino at Louisville. Coaches can be sleazy and still do their job well.
  9. The problem is that "decent" describes the talent Bell has coming up. I don't see Bell being a player in the next few years. Nice new facilities, but whoever comes in has their work cut out for them.
  10. I think it's funny how folks on here come out and criticize player selections and coaches, but when that team wins by 3 scores, you don't hear a peep out of them.
  11. All players at Northern Pulaski abide by the age restrictions within the rules of KHSAA and the KMSFA. Anyone that tells you otherwise has lied to you. Whatever is going on in Pulaski seems to be working as the high school Maroons are playing in their 3rd state finals game in 3 years this weekend.
  12. I guess we're just not as up-to-date on our recruiting tactics as the other schools you mentioned. You go to school in the district where your address falls where I come from. You can ask 3 players on the same Louisville middle school team where they're going to high school and you'll have 3 different answers. That's crazy to me.
  13. Barring a win against North Laurel this week, I think Pulaski WANTS Highlands. They have given PC their share of beatings in the past. The Maroons will embrace that opportunity with authority if they're fortunate enough to meet them next week. It will be a statement game for Coach Hines and company. Knowing most of them, they'll have a chip on their shoulder, no doubt. It will be personal.
  14. Yes, you are thinking correctly. No, he chose the basketball route but was genuinely torn. Very good athlete and well deserving of both opportunities in Kentucky football and BG varsity basketball.
  15. I understand the Boyle situation much better now and it makes sense. The BG situation still makes very little sense to me. Those guys did tell the kid to choose and only play one. That's the only thing I disagree with.
  16. I would assume that most basketball coaches would require late arrivals to the season have some type of make-up. We do that for football players who play in extended baseball seasons with all-star festivities as well. It's not severe, but just to make-up where you missed in practice. Not punishment, just to be fair to their teammates and to keep conditioning a focus. We've never told a kid they couldn't play because of an extended season in another sport.
  17. Yes, it's essentially labeled as the top 35 players in the state. In actuality, it's missing a few of the top because of basketball or injuries. I try to be as open-minded as possible on this issue. To the high school basketball coach's credit, the kid in question will probably get varsity reps this season as an 8th grader. However, I still don't see the reason for them limiting him from varsity because of this opportunity.
  18. I'm unsure if middle school or high school basketball coaches were involved with those restrictions. But yes, from what I understand, basketball coaches basically said no basketball if you participate with the Kentucky football team. Kid was torn on what to do. Making that decision as a 14 year old is tough when you want to excel at both. I'm sure opinions differ, but it should not be a decision at this age in my opinion. Both should be an option.
  19. I didn't mean to ruffle feathers. I was under the impression that Boyle was intending to set the same limits as BG. The BG ultimatum was the situation I had the problem with.
  20. The Boyle situation makes much more sense now. Thanks for the clarification. My concern mostly revolves around Bowling Green. They gave their kids ultimatums on the opportunity. One or the other. Can't do both. That was the one that frustrated me.
  21. The Kentucky football experience is only taking up Saturdays and Sundays. Does Boyle practice on weekends? That explanation makes more sense. At this age, most kids wouldn't know what will end up being their ticket to get their college paid for. That's my only argument.
  22. I'm ok with some extra conditioning, but you don't relay it as "punishment." Even some game suspensions to start them out when they come back to let them catch up in practices. I think the basketball vs. football coaching battle is ridiculous, especially at this age. I love my school, but if the administration didn't give my kids the best opportunities possible in whatever athletic endeavors they wanted to pursue, I'd be finding another school. They shouldn't have to basically be forced to choose between two sports at this age.
