The undefeated Aces of Owensboro Catholic host the Tigers of Murray in the second round of the 2A playoffs. This will be some stiffer competition for the Aces but probably still not enough to have a tight game at the end. Brady Atwell’s offense has been picking apart defenses all year, especially in 2A. Murray may be able to contain them for a bit, but over and over again the Aces dynamic and explosive weaponry has proven too much to handle. For the Murray offense Wyatt Robbins is the show. He is a double threat quarterback who has had great success throwing the ball while also being one of Murray’s three primary rushers. Can Murray keep pace with Owensboro Catholic? That’s a tough ask. The Aces look to advance with relative ease, if not another running clock.

The Knights of Lexington Catholic continued their hot streak into the playoffs, dispatching West Carter with ease 53-7. Their reward? A second round date with WC’s rival, East Carter. The Raiders ran right past Bourbon Pcunty 48-19 to get here. East Carter is lead offensively by running back Landon Yoak who is averaging nearly 125 rushing yards a game. That’s compare to the roughly 75 passing yards per game the team averages. They will complement him with other rushers as well, bringing their team rushing average to over 200 yards per game. Lexington Catholic hasn’t let anyone in 3A get more than 14 points on them. I think it will be a tough ask for East Carter to score the required amount to beat the Knights. And who knows what that number will be - the Knights offense has been extremely dynamic and productive since entering district play after that brutal schedule to start the year. I think the Knights continue their march through the playoffs with ease this week.

For the third straight year the Jaguars of Cooper will face the Cardinals of Scott County in the second round of the 5A playoffs. This is a rubber match of sorts as Scott County won in 2022 and Cooper won last year, moving on to a tune of 49-21. Cooper is undefeated but without their star Austin Alexander. Their first round opponent, South Oldham, kept things interesting until well into the second half when a flurry of activity allows Cooper to pull away and win 56-28. And if there is one thing I can predict with great certainty, that offense will still carryover to this game and you can expect some high numbers. But what about defensively? Scott County comes in as one of the premier rushing offenses in the state. They ran all over Conner in an offensive dominated battle, winning 47-40 to advance to this week. Can Cooper, without Alexander, stop the Scott County run game? If so, you are looking at a very similar result to last year.

Brossart scores points and can move the ball utilizing a bunch of different guys. I expect NCC to win here but I don’t expect a running clock at all. NCC 28 - 24.
