No controversy here Guru, if that is what you are trying to stir up. I have not spoken to Coach Burnett directly, but I know of a few factors that went into this decision. The driving distance did play into it as Coach Burnett is retired and this was a long way out and back for him to travel. Also, his daughter just moved back up from Florida and enrolled his grandchild in the Beechwood district, I think, and they now live close to where he lives. The family factor is the biggest reason from what I am hearing. Also, from what I have heard, he is going to be the OC at Beechwood where he was the Co-OC with Borchers at Cooper. All of that with him living 3 seconds from Beechwood's campus all played into this. I also believe, in my own opinion, that Beechwood is where Coach Burnett's heart is. He spent many years at Beechwood as the Assistant Principal, Football Coach, etc. and I think he really wants to be there. This part is my opinion but I would assume it has something to do with it as well.

It has been confirmed that he is returning to Beechwood. Apparently told his lineman Monday at conditioning. Coach Burnett will be missed at Cooper but I do not expect them to take a step back by any means. Coach Borchers is one of the best in the area and will keep this train rolling forward. Best of luck to Coach B and the Cooper Jags as they move forward. And to answer the question posted earlier, Coach Burnett coached the Offensive Line and MLB while at Cooper.

I am going to go out on a limb a tiny bit in 6A and possibly 5A and definitely in 2A. 6A - Male 5A - Highlands 4A - South Warren 3A - Belfry 2A - NewCath 1A - Beechwood A little bias toward NKY teams and I know that Mayfield is the favorite in 2A and BG in 5A I just think that Highlands gets that swag back, and NewCath is going to get a huge year out of their QB. They are ALWAYS in the mix in November. Male I am just going off of talent and kids building off of last year, and add the fact that I am not sure what all they lost off of this years state champion team.

If that is true, then I would have to agree. He has been doing this for a long time and knows the game. There is a lot of experience on the Cooper staff though so I think they will move along just fine without him if that is the case. This is the first I have heard of this, will try to confirm.

Agreed. I think someone like Blake Lynn will slide in at Center for them and then they will have a few more bodies to fill that one spot. I look for Yauger, who got some spell reps last year, to step in to that other guard spot possibly.

Cooper does graduate a lot but have a strong nucleus of underclassmen returning which will keep them in the mix. They still have Rocsvag and Centers anchoring the line, Schlarman and Meyers at LB, Jackson and Hendrix at RB and WR, respectively and a good sprinkle of other young players. They get a player back this year that was unable to play his junior year but played a ton his sophomore year in Leroy. They will need some others to step up like other teams, but they do still have the nucleus to be a solid team.

Hey LB, what is the crowd like today? Was curious if Sunday afternoon made crowd size smaller? Was going to try and get over there today just to much going on plus Cooper losing kind of helped make that an easier decision! Lol Good luck to all 4 teams today batting for a chance to go to state tomorrow night!!!

I am not getting carried away. If Cooper played 4 quarters the way the played the second half I think they would have had every chance to win that game! Credit to NCC, which I have said a million times, they came out jumped on Cooper early and had an answer for every time Cooper seemed to grab momentum. But I also don't know that I would call Cooper a distant #2 next year to CovCath. Cooper beat CovCath this year by 13, even though very early in the season. I liked Cooper matching up against CCH better than NCC because of Weyer. CovCath doesn't have the dominant big man, and please don't say that will be Walters next year. I can easily see CCH and Cooper fighting it out next year if both stay healthy! But, that is a whole year away. Good luck to the Catholics and Conner tomorrow and hope they are great games

Agreed! No excuses tonight, Sean didn't look as rusty as expected except on a few finishes at the rim. Kunkel looked rusty for sure. But in the end, NCC played GREAT D and had an answer every time Cooper tried to rally! Cooper will learn from it and hopefully come back next year hungry and healthy

Naturally I would think you would understand that is part of spotting a team 20 points in the first half. If they are up 20 after the first quarter it's obviously because your not scoring.

Cooper battled in the second half and had it down to 7 a time or two but you are correct sir, can't spot a good team 20 points and expect to win a game. Congrats to NCC on the win and a heck of a season for Cooper but they just couldn't stay healthy! I fully expect this team to be back here next year and potentially as the favorite. A lot in the cupboard for Cooper next year

I am sure it is no worse than any language any group of high school kid uses. My guess is he is probably just sitting close to them

About as ugly as a half as I've seen in all my years watching basketball. NCC not playing that great and still a 17 point lead. Cooper lives and dies by the three and tonight, so far, they are dying by it. C. McNeil has to wake up and they have to start knocking down open shots. NCC is also getting about any shot they want

They did the first game, I believe he had over 100 and a TD against SK the playoff game but don't have the stats in front of me. If he wasn't over 100 he couldn't have been under by much

I agree. Kid is to good not to center your passing game around, just saying that they have to replace their QB again so got to find someone to get the ball to him. Borchers does a fantastic job of putting kids in the right places to win. He and staff seem to be doing things the right way out there.

If so it is because Cooper doesn't have the QB to throw it to Hendrix. Best receiver up here this past season as a junior, expect nothing to change next year as a senior as he will only get faster and stronger.

I was actually thinking about that myself. I went a little further back to my time, and was thinking that the Brock kid from SK had a pretty good stroke if I remember correctly.
