1st call for Tuesday/Wednesday Winter Storm 2/11-12/25
I live in Florence and I was just on the road, it’s pretty slick out there. If it freezes overnight, it could be a rough morning.

Cooper at Conner or Holy Cross at Cov Cath
The boy and I are going to a game tonight. I want to go to the Conner at Cooper game and he wants to go to Cov Cath. I really just want to see a competitive and emotional game. Where would you go?

Simon Kenton 54 Walton Verona 34
I doubt we did. The referees let it get way too physical on the Walton Verona offensive side, and then following possession they blew their whistle four times in a row on the Simon Kenton side of the court. They could’ve given the Walton Coach a technical, or even a warning. He could’ve given a warning or a T to the bench because all the coaches and players were standing up reacting to every call. Another thing I would like to see official start doing in tense situations is to not be so animated when they call foul. Why can’t they blow the whistle, put their fist in the air, and then report the foul? I see some of these refs they blow their whistle, look at the player, and almost shout “YOU’RE GRABBING HIS JERSEY,” or “THAT’S ON YOU, YOU’RE ALL OVER HIS ARM!!” This makes players think that a referee is yelling at them, thus raising the emotional level of the environment. You can’t possibly tell me that 90 seconds before the altercation you couldn’t predict that something was about to blow up. Simon Kenton’s assistant coaches seem more mature than Walton Verona’s. Another unfortunate thing is that due to this result now the Grant County Walton Verona game on Tuesday has absolutely no bearing on anything. I liked it better when all these teams played each other twice.

I think Beechwood is at home tomorrow against Lloyd.

I thought so too, but there were not enough free throws shot by SK to suggest multiple technical fouls. The referees did a terrible job with game management and lost control of the game. The younger looking blonde ref was not ready for a Varsity Boys game with this level of intensity. The shorter ref, a guy I have watched since 2007 and whom I consider to be one of the best in the region, could have taken more control. The crew itself let it get out of hand. Simon Kenton is playing really good defense. They absolutely suffocated Walton making it difficult for them to get a shot off. I am curious to see the stats to learn how many FGA Walton Verona had.

54-34 final. Some intentional, techs, coaches screaming at each other, etc. SK has one of the worst PA systems around so I couldn’t get all the calls.

And now we got a problem. It’s the referees fault 100%.

Simon Kenton 54 Walton Verona 34
42-27 SK with 3 minutes left. The referees have lost their mind the past three minutes.

41-25 SK. Walton got it to 12, but sputtered a little the last two minutes.

33-18 SK at half. The pioneers hit, if my Batavia Math is correct, 5 three pointers in that quarter.

14-8 SK after 1. Pioneers are playing a very aggressive zone, for the longest time I always remembered Trent Steiner playing a very aggressive man man where he would deny the passing lanes. Seems like for the past couple years he’s changed his philosophy, I’ve seen more zone out of him.
