  3. Here are the years/sites. Abbreviations: H-S = Houchens-LT Smith; Bowl. = Bowling Green; PJCA = Papa John's; KFEC = Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center; the omitted field for EKU was Hanger Field; Manual is venerable Manual Stadium in Louisville (capacity has varied but Manual football site says >11,000 seats). The first 1A and 2A games were played at Stoll, the 3A game (except for 1960 forfeit) at Manual. 3A began as the class for Jefferson County so 2 sites made sense. 4. Sad nobody wants a Rock. They were such a beautiful & resilient team. The no-name 6A champs.
  5. But is Valley convenient for anyone? That road, those stoplights, the congestion, & then the fight for parking. Why not Broadbent or Freedom Hall, doggone it. The Valley gym is simply beautiful but the location is ridiculous. Gotta be some kind of cheapo make-a-profit-and-let-fans-suffer thinking behind it.
  6. Thanks, Avid Tiger. Oldham Co was ferocious in zoning Trinity, sagging on Big Ray (Spalding), doubling player with ball. OC in great physical condition. They came to play. Maybe Trinity a little spent from playing mini-NBA teams in Florida but came back to life in 2Q with 12-0 run to finish for 27-20 lead at half. Oldham Co came out in 3Q as aggressive as before but Trinity was stickier & faster on O & D & won 2H 31-18. Oldham Co will be hot come regional play. Their #5 can hit the three, take my word for it. Rocks need some rest for Lexington Christian game tomorrow at 9pm. This is a terrific tourney.
  7. If Owensboro played much of the season as they did against Highlands in the state championship game, definitely top 20 if not in top 15.
  8. Then who is in control of the game? If the refs aren't, then Whimsy is. Old school says you ref & play your hardest & correct as refs your errors when at all possible. Most of these kids will not advance even to D3. They remember these games forever & they never get calloused enough to say breezily refs are human. So is the surgeon removing your festered appendix. So he gashes your colon, sews you up, & you die of septicemia in a couple days. Well, surgeons are human, right? So rude-word what? All we have to do in life is perform at C/satisfactory level. C is competent, good, ok. Refs, surgeons, parents, teachers who don't get no pass from me, a retired teacher.
  9. Clyde: I heard but cannot say first hand that Joe B. Hall expressed concerns about these plays on his radio program with Denny Crum. I can't confirm with any google searches though so just hearsay. Also was told that the Trinity players were totally cool & acted like gentlemen, congratulated MC, & went into the locker room, where the organizer of the Joe B Hall event apologized to them & praised them for their behavior. Wish I could document this but can't; these matters were mentioned at Trinity's assembly in April to celebrate the team. So it goes.
  10. This is the last 40 secs of Madison Central's 78-77 win over Trinity on Jan 21, 2012, in the Joe B. Hall Classic. The vid's in a narrow vertical box but you can see enough of the action to wonder about the refereeing that many say cost Trinity the game, their only KY defeat that season.
  11. I like Big Green Monster, I like the association with the left field wall at Fenwick Park. Aside from Gang Green, used around the school, I like to call a Trinity team T. Rox. It's just fun.
  12. Not a problem. I thought it was a fun compliment. Another fond name used at the school for the teams is Gang Green.
  13. I doubt that Coach Beatty will leave Trinity til he wishes to retire. I know he gets offers, has interviews, thinks things over, but, as he said at football get-together in Feb 2006 (I think), where else would he go, where else would he be in a better situation? At Trinity the personal & academic standards are demanding, disciplinary problems are treated strictly, and maybe most of all, the most important thing to me at least as a retired college prof, is that the parents are behind the school, behind their sons, and behind administration and faculty. Beatty talked about that in one of these articles. He said the team succeeded first of all because the parents bought into the rugged schedule, helped team and coaches get through the many disappointments, and always had hope.
  14. You're a funny guy. Tell me, how many Trinity seniors on this team have D1 football offers? Or can expect to get one? But you may be right about 12A in another sense: 12A coaches. You need that to win a title with a 5-loss team.
  15. I think we saw other schools doing that at football & basketball games & we tried it out. Sometimes the pix are of players. Moms wave them & of course classmates. Looks weird. I love it.
  16. I hear you. Trinity tried that last year, as in "containing" Davis Mattingly of Male, Gus Ragland of Moeller, & assorted other greats. Yeah, we contained them. Second Male game, Male 31-7. Moeller game, something like 42-14 (here's a clip, I can't watch it again: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Trinity+v+Moeller+2013). And we had good players but that nutty D notion of "containment".
  17. You could tell this loss really hurt the MC players ~ which means they are winners & come back next year loaded & hungry. The one thing the staff ought to think about is trying to line up a tougher schedule. Trinity has been so used to getting whacked by bigger and sometimes faster teams that when it comes to play against teams with lighter schedules, the Rocks have a bit of an advantage. There were times last night when Trinity QB Ryan Young was back to pass or running around looking for receivers & he seemed kinda stunned that a lot of big mean persons weren't hot on his trail. Young ran for his life in most of our games. The Rocks' tuff schedule did not make a difference last year tho ~ Male embarrassed us twice, the 2nd time was ugly. But a new D coach made all the difference this year. No reason Meade County can't gain with a heftier schedule. It's really something when you are the biggest show in your hometown.
  18. So what's your problem with the privates? You said it; now you have to supply details, to say the least.
  19. Speak for yourself, kid. I like class places like Ryle, St X, and Bowling Green that have big stands on one side and small bleachers or none on the other: they set aside half the seating on the good side for visitors. As I said, class.
  20. I hereby invite you to my home for Thanksgiving dinner. We are having a succulent turkey, wild goose, ham, homemade dressing, gravy, steamed green beans, potato casserole, down home biscuits, fresh cranberries, some pretty nice wines, and wait til you see dessert. That's for us. You get a baloney sandwich, which is what you are feeding us here. And like I said, wait til you see dessert, cuz that's as close as you get, seeing it.
  21. If Rocks fans aren't welcome on the home side, then charge the home folk the regular price & the Rock folk 25 cents.
