  1. Re Hamilton Field, why not have a capital fund drive to rebuild the stadium, emphasis on artificial turf, larger visitors section, and safer seating all around ~ if there is empty space under bleacher seats that a smaller person could accidently fall through. Don't laugh, there are a lot of high school stadiums that are lawsuits waiting to happen. And since artificial turf can be set up & used regularly for any sort of field sport, not just Meade Co but community groups would benefit. Since Meade Co has such a loyal following, it shouldn't be that hard to raise $300,000 to refurbish the ol' place. Sure wish Male and Manual would do something about their wretched venues.
  2. Bad form? Or just plain creepy? Or do we just pay a quarter to stand? I'm 69. I sit where I want to.
  3. Oh really? Sounds a little weird. At home, opponents are welcome on the Trinity side. No trouble. Lot of fun too.
  4. Not bad. Trinity will probably have 2000-2500 fans there. Thanks for numbers.
  5. Good grief! What are they going to do for the Trinity crowd. Are Meade Co games well attended? We may have to take any spare seats.
  6. The level of competition has plusses and minuses. If you play a strong schedule, you run up against a lot of smart coaches & rough teams with tradition. You also get the snot kicked out of you. Trinity has had to patch up more than a few guys. Their QB got a concussion in the 2nd game against Indiana Carmel (playing this week for the 6A title) & was out a couple weeks. Other guys have been whacked pretty hard. But that happens too when you play a light schedule. More likely tho when the opponent is stacked with D1's. On the plus side, at this point you are combat-ready after a tough schedule. Five of Trinity's out-of-state opponents are in the title hunt: II-AA Ensworth-TN (would be 5-peat); 6A Carmel-IN (lost in 2013 title game 7-6); 5A Indianapolis Cathedral-IN (would be a 5-peat); Div I Moeller-OH (3-peat in works); 4A Cocoa-FL, going up against a top Florida team. A 6th outta stater lost its quarterfinal Saturday to a top PA team.
  7. Re Trinity's 2014 penalties ~ yes it seems as if both our O and D have been getting flagged more often. Except for one or two calls all year, and those are maybes, I think the flags were appropriate. Some of the contact was incidental but a flag was valid. Several games I missed but I have seen 9 of 12. Must be driving the coaches nuts. I know in the St X game in October, we had 9 penalties alone in the first half (12 for the game) & most were just bonehead stuff: D linemen either too eager or getting fooled by clever signal-calling; false starts on O.
  8. Brutal? In the last week's MaxPreps Freeman computer poll, Bowling Green was ranked 189 in US. Their opponents looked like this. 4790 Mercer Co Harrodsburg 2341 @ Lexington Catholic 530 St Xavier Louisville 1424 @ Owensboro McCallie is ranked #256 for the moment but they should rise after last night's win. After McCallie, BG faces two more Kentucky juggernauts: #5226 Barren Co to tie, and #12,786 Logan Co to break. Btw, there are around 15,000 h/s 11-man football teams in the country. In the 3 full seasons of the run (games 1-44), BG played 16 teams with losing seasons and 3 with .500 seasons. Through the whole streak to date, BG’s opponents’ rankings go like this: # Date Opps’Rank 1 8–20–11 6504 2 8–26–11 4918 3 9–2–11 209 4 9–9–11 1999 5 9–16–11 6039 6 9–23–11 6577 7 9–30–11 9171 8 10–14–11 486 9 10–21–11 3430 10 10–28–11 779 11 11–4–11 8861 12 11–11–11 3430 13 11–18–11 486 14 11–25–11 461 15 12–3–11 1295 16 8–18–12 7838 17 8–24–12 1936 18 8–31–12 217 19 9–7–12 1789 20 9–14–12 3886 21 9–21–12 11660 22 9–28–12 11697 23 10–12–12 892 24 10–19–12 3262 25 10–26–12 453 26 11–2–12 8327 27 11–9–12 2155 28 11–16–12 892 29 11–23–12 499 30 12–1–12 528 31 8–24–13 1147 32 9–6–13 359 33 9–13–13 2846 34 9–20–13 711 35 9–27–13 8338 36 10–3–13 12836 37 10–18–13 3152 38 10–25–13 8633 39 11–1–13 113 40 11–8–13 10814 41 11–15–13 4923 42 11–22–13 2305 43 11–29–13 3152 44 12–8–13 964 45 8–23–14 4790 46 8–29–14 2341 47 9–5–14 530 48 9–12–14 1424 In 2011 BG finished #50 in the country, in 2012 #157,in 2013 #97. The 2014 schedule might have been semi-brutal if Blackman had not been unilaterally dropped by BG. As for the Freeman rankings, not infallible by a long shot but it's all we have except the next longest ones, HSFB100 and PrepNation Top 25 + Top 10 in 7 regions.
  9. Mind explaining what you mean about Trinity having money?
  10. These guys are funny. What is the time, what is the score? Is Blackman the next game? That one should be pretty good down in Tennessee, what with all the bad blood.
  11. I remind you that our St X played Ohio repeat big-school champs Moeller in a rainy game very hard, losing 24-12. But they later beat Cincinnati St X 24-16 (Cin X was in the HSFB100 till the end of the season despite a losing record). Then they played Male down to wire in both games, Male winning in the playoff game by a last minute drive after X took the lead. Ups and downs for X, of course, but let's wait to see what the next 5 years holds. It takes a little while to transition from a legend & eventually own the program. Second, this is high school football, guys. St X does not purge coaches like college & NFL AND some highs addicted to the limelight. Let's just enjoy the game and the young men who play.
  12. It would be nice if we knew the rationale. The list could be logical. Note: Trinity has played 3 pretty good teams but none from Kentucky yet. Bowling Green is on a big roll with its streak, having beaten St X last Friday. I would simply like to know the criteria before I make any sort of conclusion.
  13. Trinity's JVs traveled to McCracken County for an afternoon game today. The young Rocks won 42-7. It was 14-0 after 1Q, 35-0 at half, 35-7 end 3Q (McC scored in 3 plays at start of 3rd), 42-7 final. I have no other details. Data taken from https://twitter.com/trinitysports & Momma Rocks f/b page.
  14. Did you notice that some Trinity guys were going both ways? That's the plan this year. An outstanding shutdown performance by the Rocks' Rodjay Burns (WR/DB) on Imhotep's bigtime receiver D J Moore, a WR commit to Maryland. So only two great players, huh? Why did Jody Demling of the C-J chortle about them with such brio: Jody Demling @jdemling · 22h "Louisville running backs coach Kolby Smith watching Trinity vs. Imhotep. Team from Philadelphia is LOADED with D-1 prospects." No, not a great offensive performance by Trinity but great adjustments at halftime to spring Brooks who outran and outfoxed a good D. Once again, Trinity's soph QB, starting while senior Ryan Young is sidelined with a concussion, didn't have better than a C game, but was that on him entirely (he does hold onto ball when play is busted) or on the O coordinator's calling some dubious plays in the first half? The next 3 weeks will tell more about Trinity's evolution from a team with talent to, possibly, a talented team: hapless but dangerous Colerain this week, then highly-rated Cocoa (FL) and superbly-coached 4-peater Indy Cathedral. If the Rocks can hit the midway point 3-3, expect further improvement in district play.
  15. This game between St Xavier & The Purples will tell the tale for both teams. I always want X to do well but BG has the hot streak going (and have they gotten any notice for it outside of Kentucky??). I wish Trinity & BG could resume their series. BG fans are the best.
  16. The Freshman Rocks beat Carmel 27-14 Saturday, AUG 30. Cincinnati LaSalle blew up Colerain last night 40-21. CovCath ran over Dixie Heights 41-7 this afternoon. Boone Co won 49-26 over Conner ......... whew!
  17. True, great effort. The multiple hugs and long talks between Trinity & Carmel players after game told me they both knew they had played quite a team in a special game. I really do not feel too bad about the loss because the lesson is there to be learnt, for both coaches & players: terrific talent, too many bonehead mistakes (like T's deadball foul negating the 15y from Carmel's roughing the passer), apparent (and I say this as fan) unimaginative offense. But Lawzee was there some hitting. I'm going out on a limb: if the '14 Rocks had been the '13 Rocks, Moeller would have been the only team that we definitely would have lost to ......... but counterfactuals are good only for getting you back to present: the '14 Rocks are showing what the '13 Rocks lacked. The coaches will figure it out, the players are there, the heart is there, Trinity will be highly competitive.
  18. Yes, Coach Wright led Trinity in the late 90s. Last night Carmel beat Hamilton Southeastern 14-7. Maybe they had a tuff nite too because Southeastern is Freeman-rated 25IN/1220US against Carmel's 4IN/90US ... if that means anything. Trinity v Carmel will be an excellent game next week. Coach Wright was very well liked at Trinity & is a fine mentor for young men. Carmel lost by a lousy point 7-6 in the 2013 Indiana big-school final to, I think, Warren Central. Carmel had to settle for 2 fg's.
  19. The Highlands v Cin. St X scrimmage will tell more about both. If you like voodoo ratings, MaxPreps Freeman computer preseason rankings puts CinX at #95 in the US & Highlands at #926. My prediction is that the Birds will bomb the Bombers this week. You heard it first on Radio Free Green Guy.
  20. One of the big lessons Birds have to learn is to hold onto the ball that Hoge puts right in their hands. Yes in first half Hoge greatly overthrew a wide-open downfield receiver but he landed one perfectly in the hands of his receiver in the e/z and overthrew a receiver in the rear of the e/z (he caught it but came down just a little out-of-bounds). This Friday, these fixables will be fixed. Trinity made fewer costly mistakes but one of their big ones was not tracking down Hoge when he scrambled &, perhaps, not covering receivers a little more snugly ~ bc Hoge, often under much pressure, zipped the ball to them. The kid is the real thing. If the Birds had made two less fixables, the score at end of 3Q would've been more like 31-20, or maybe closer. Trinity is good but so is Highlands.
