  1. Given that they kept 16 players, it seems that their goal was to develop as many players as possible. In this situation, why bring up 2 more at this point? So, I would say not to. However, I think that middle school ball is the first level where it's a privilege, not a right, to play. If the 6th graders are better then they should play up. If it's about developing MORE players, don't shaft those that are most deserving by letting them play at a level that doesn't challenge them. It would then be logical to say not to play them at both the 6th and 7th grade levels because it is taking up spots from TWO age groups. By playing such players up (and not double playing them), you are still developing the same number of players while more fully developing those that are better (at that age).
  2. What position does Perry play for Ballard and what is his height? And same questions for Housely?
  3. What position does Perry play for Ballard and what is his height?
  4. Trust me, I certainly don't mean that as a knock against the Hill kid at all. I'm just saying that I have a hard time understanding how you remove a kid that averaged 17 ppg as a soph on a highly competitive Lincoln squad. I understand Hill's rating is based upon perceived potential. The same argument could be made for including Elkins at Boyle. And they both may very well end up on there by year end. I'm just saying that it would likely be considered a success for each of those players if they were to average 17 ppg this year, and a kid that already did that last year (for a good team) doesn't make the list? And yes, Casey's freshman class is probably the best class to come through there in 20 years. I look for them to be very competitive in the 12th in their junior and senior seasons, especially if Coach Stallworth stays.
  5. The Courier Journal's 12th region top 10 teams and players are: 12TH REGION • Teams: 1. Wayne County, 2. Pulaski Southwestern, 3. West Jessamine, 4. Boyle County, 5. Lincoln County, 6. Mercer County, 7. East Jessamine, 8. Somerset, 9. Pulaski County, 10. Danville. They're showing a lot more love for the Pulaski County teams. Guess they don't think the loss of those 2 players at Southwest was impactful enough to drop them in the rankings? • Players: 1. Peyton Woods (Wayne County), 2. Justin Edwards (Pulaski Southwestern), 3. Ronnie Carson (East Jessamine), 4. Daulton Peters (West Jessamine), 5. Corey Stearns (Wayne County), 6. Hagen Tyler (Boyle County), 7. Will Hager (Mercer County), 8. Baylen Hill (Casey County), 9. Timmy Taylor (Lincoln County), 10. Ryan Dishman (Somerset). The top 7 were very similar. The big difference was Baylen Hill coming in at #8, rated over both Lincoln players (Taylor and Conway), with Conway not even making the list. Wow.
  6. Nice analysis. Team rankings look about right. I think that any of the top 6 have a legitimate shot at making it to Rupp. The player rankings look pretty good as well. 8 of the top 10 are underclassman including 3 sophomores. That's a much younger look than the other regional rankings I've seen so far. I do think that Conway is maybe a little under-rated. He may not be as well-rounded as some of those above him (ball handling, defense, etc.) but is arguably as good of a scorer as anyone on this list. I look for Lincoln to be very strong both this year and next year. They had a good start in beating Montgomery last night in a scrimmage. I think Garrard has potential to move up in the rankings if Sebastian bounces back. And they have some nice potential with their sophomore group. And Pulaski at #13. Haven't seen that in a long time, if ever. Will be intersting to see how that plays out.
  7. Excellent write-up! Couple of comments: 1) if Snoop Johnson plays, how is he not a top 10 player? 2) I think Harrison may be better than that. Pulliam and Thompson will prove to be a very good duo. And a shout out to the Pulliam kid. I saw it out there that he got a 34 on his ACT. WOW
  8. I don't generally post on the football threads but knew there would be some "excitement" on both sides after this upset. Fun to watch Birdsfan and Starks. Here's the reality. Boyle became a force in the late 1990's and, with the exception of a few down years, has been relevant every year since. They are a football power, and they were undefeated and the number 2 team in their class going in to last night. Add to that the fact that the two towns are 10 minutes apart. And that Mercer hasn't been a consistent performer over that same period. Should anyone be surprised that Mercer is hyped and Boyle is bitter? IMO, if the Titans can maintain some stability/continuity on the sidelines, the post-merger Mercer County team has the the talent to compete with the Rebels on an annual basis. The type of highly competitive game you saw last night should become the norm. BUT , even with that win, the Rebels are still the premiere football program. No question. It's going to take more than one big win to change that. It's a great start for the Titans, but only a start at this point. I, for one, think it's great to have as many great 12th region teams as possible!
  9. Likewise, where would you rate them in the region?
  10. I know they lost a lot of size, but what do they have coming back (in terms of size)? I don't know the height of some of these kids. Where do you rank them in the region?
  11. Didn't he first spurn Louisville by committing to Illinois? Drama.
  12. West Jessamine has Peters and Henderson back. Peters is very athletic and strong and he has a nice mid-range jump shot. I look for him to be a top 5 player in the region. Henderson is a solid PG and probably the best on-ball (perimeter) defender in the region. He does a really good job running the team. Both will provide strong senior leadership. Does anyone know if their back-up center is back this year? Name was something like Ian Kossich?? He wasn't at the regional tournament last year for some reason. Had he been, I'm confident they would've beaten Wayne. Wayne had trouble with West's big but got him in foul trouble and this kid wasn't there. When I watched them last year, he was a difference maker for them off the bench. I mention that because whether he's on the team probably determines whether they're a serious threat to challenge for the title.
  13. Agree, they have to be the favorite with almost everyone back. Great coaching. He seems to always get the most out of his talent. However, I don't think they're a heavy favorite. I think there will be at least 3 more teams that will be capable of beating them on any given night (if not playing at Wayne).
  14. Yep. And looking at last year's, I would've basically agreed with the pre-season list, yet there were a few changes/surprises by year end. But, like I said, I like Wireman's statement that they have to earn it on the court! And Elkins is one that may very well make the year end list and that I expect to make next year's pre-season.
  15. Coach Stallworth does a good job coaching and an even better job promoting kids that he's affiliated with. Thus the reason why there have been college coaches there to watch. I'm confident that they wouldn't have been there otherwise as no colleges or universities would know about a kid (from Casey County) that even people who are very familiar with 12th region basketball are unfamiliar with. I'm not saying he isnt legit and won't have a good/great year. And I really hope he does as I love it when kids from small schools are successful! He may end up being a top 10 by year end, but I can't see putting him in the pre-season top 10. Too many proven players, many with considerable upside themselves.
  16. I'm mostly sticking with my top 10 from a month ago - with perhaps 1 exception. I went back and compared it to the 12th region all tournament team from last year, and it matches up very well with my list. Those that made that team and return this year are: Blevins, Dishman, Edwards, Hager, Stearns, Taylor, Tyler, Peters, and Woods for a total of 9. I'd add Carson to this list for a top 10 and replace Blevins with Conway. I can't justify removing any of these kids based on the numbers they put up last year - and all for good teams. I believe the only difference from my original list was Dishman replacing Ray. My "watch" list would include: Ray, Elkins, Henderson, Blevins, Sebastian and Hill (based on what You are saying about him). As Wireman said in an earlier post, they need to earn it on the court. I'm sticking with those that are proven performers.
  17. So he's at Casey County. And a senior, is that right? I saw them play last year and don't remember him. Did he put up good numbers or are you saying this based on what you've heard about his improvement? Given the lack of size in the 12th, just being 6'7" is worth something.
  18. Who is Baylen Hill and where does he play? Thought I was pretty familiar with 12th region players so I'm a little perplexed that I don't know know about a a 6'7" kid that should be top 10. Is he a transfer?
  19. Wow, that's an interesting approach. It all makes more sense now lol. Guess its hard for Cats Pause to produce an article about it since they dont actually cover high school basketball. Regardless, thanks for the clarification.
  20. Exactly my point but about Boyle!! Truth is, only Wayne has earned it given the different looks of this year's versions of the top 6 teams. It wouldn't surprise me if any of those 5 end up 2nd...or 1st for that matter. Parity amongst the top 6 teams. Enjoyed the dialogue and look forward to continuing it as the season progresses.
  21. They do, which I referenced in my comment/question to you. Boyle lost their PG and leading scorer, their 6'7" game changer and 1.5 other starters. Coming back is their second leading scorer, another kid that started some of their games and a transfer. That's it in terms of kids that saw any significant minutes at the varsity level last year. Throw in Elkins and I think there's certainly potential there but there just isn't the level of proven players like on a Lincoln and West Jessamine. I'm not trying to downplay Boyle, just don't think Lincoln and West (and a couple of their players) are getting the respect they deserve on here.
