Kurt was Mr. Ky football, played college and pro, runs several football camps and has coached at the college level so I would definitely consider him qualified.

You are correct, I always think of Davis as the AD because he always seems to be the one calling the shots

I have heard two completely different versions of what is going to happen, but with the AD saying he will have a coach in place in 2 -3 weeks my guess is something is already a done deal.

I have not been able to find out anything tonight on Barber but I will soon. But I am pretty sure about that number. "Linebacker U" was pretty appropriate, because Barber played alongside Joe Phil who was also a All-American. How many schools have had 2 All-Americans playing at the same time? Barber was an absolute beast, and when he decided to go into the backfield, he went- I have never seen a more universal athlete than Barber, he could pretty much do whatever he wanted on offense or defense.

It's been a long time, but the best I can remember Kurt Barber, All-American at both WR and LB, averaged something like close to 4 per game during his junior and senior years. I will see if I can find something official.

They have had some coverage and predictions but they are usually full of errors.

The team that Belfry became this year, it was just their year. However as games our often decided by matchups, I would guess Central probably had the best shot as they may have had the size to not get dominated at the los. The match up of Belfrys front vs LCs front proved to be Caths ultimate demise. If you can't control the LOS it doesn't matter how dynamic a WR or qb you have. So therefore if Central could have managed the los better they may have had a better chance. That's another reason you can often throw out head to head results.

Wow, this went from a game to a blowout in minutes-

I sure miss Joey and think of him often when at games. I would regularly see him at football, basketball, and even baseball games. We sat together at many baseball games and compared notes on all sports and life in general. Joey never "worked" a day in his life, because he was just having fun doing what he loved. Before I met him in person, I assumed he was somewhat arrogant because of some of his writings; boy was I ever wrong. Joey spoke his mind, but he did so with strong conviction in his views, and he could dang near make me change my mind when listening to him! His only fault was he was a Cubs fan- which he never even tried to change my mind in that view. (just kidding on the fault) Joey was a great guy who knew every kid who played every sport in the first region and cared about their well-being. I sure miss my talks with him and that sly little grin he would give-

I'll state my view on that one time and I will get off this thread. There seemed to be much negativity near the end of the tenure of the last coaching staff. But, in 2 seasons Rogers has doubled the roster, so hopefully he is regaining that interest.

Yes, that was Mike Lawson, I believe he may have won 7 or 8 games in a season.

As a PT player in the late 80s, I used to witness something about Mayfield that was somewhat unusual. And read my whole statement because it is a compliment. Back then we would typically dominate Mayfield all thru little league, middle school, and generally in JV. But, what was happening is Mayfields' whole feeder program was preparing them very well for the Varsity level. Mayfield has had a long history with the Morris family, and also coach Leahy, who was a Morris disciple. My point is this, Mayfield is a small-school team, who may not have huge numbers, but they have a long-established tradition bolstered by a great feeder program backed by coaches who have been in the system for a loooooonnnngggg time. Mayfield players are prepped for their journey in High school from the time they start playing, and when they get to HS, they are ready to compete as a whole unit. Joe Morris, is one of the best in the business at making adjustments, and his success is supported by a great staff. To be consistently good as they are, you have to have ALL the pieces of the puzzle, and apparently they must have at least 99.9% of them.

Oh my, Marshall Co. has more problems than answers. First and foremost, football is just "part-time entertainment" in the fall until basketball season starts. Just ask anyone there, it is a fact. Marshall continues to hire from the "good old boy" pool time after time. The only decently successful coach they have had was Mike Lawson in the mid 2000s. Since then they have hired Scott Shelton, who failed miserably. When Shelton resigned Marshall had several applicants, but got a guy who was big talk, but ended up more of a big failure, not to mention a child sex-offender. So on to their next coach, Merrick, a "convenient" assistant who had been on the staff thru 2 other unsuccessful coaching tenures. He has racked up a stellar 4 wins and 17 losses. Marshall may never be a state contender, but it is a shame that a school that big cannot even field a team capable of a 50/50 record. There are athletes available, as Marshall routinely puts kids in the next level in basketball and baseball. But until Marshall gets serious about hiring qualified, proven candidates for its' coaching position, they will continue to get more of the same.

Grace in defeat is often a bitter pill to swallow, but it tastes better than sour grapes in the long run-
