Brossart didn't win...

Scott 62 Montgomery County 60
Not necessarily, but likely the absence of a top 10 player in the region is going to be at least some amount of difference. If that difference is 3 or 20, it still would have changed the outcome of the game. While it is foolish to say having Jones would have certainly changed the outcome by 20 points, it's also foolish to say it certainly wouldn't have. Regardless, this is a good win for Scott. They needed this result regardless of who was out.

Are live stats anywhere? They used to always be on Cybersports, but it looks like that site is no more?

Mercer County 70 Boyle County 51
The the main thing I don't think we've seen from Mercer is how they would handle an athletic opponent. The better teams they've played this year aren't extremely athletic.

Dunbar 73 Lafayette 42
This Dunbar team is the best team in the state. They just have to be this team consistently. Jenkins was in foul trouble the whole game. I doubt he played more than about 12-14 min. Hollingsworth is so smooth. He just doesn't take bad shots and can still score consistently.

Southwestern 61 Madison Central 56
Solid road win for SW. I'm not sold they have as high a peak as some of the other top teams in the state, but they seem to be very solid.

10th Region Rankings & Weekly Review (1-24-16)
Yeah, the 10th has been a little spoiled. Up until last year they have had at least a top 20 team in the state every year since the early 2000s, with a top 5 team about 40% of the time during that stretch. This year I'm not sure there is a top 40 team, but you have 4 or 5 that are just below that range.

Boys Stats leaders through 1-21-16
2 schools that jump out to me that haven't entered stats are Southwestern and Henry Clay. Not sure the story on SW, but Henry Clay's stats are done by WL Stats, so they are available.

Teams that went undefeated in the regular season
Also Henderson (8-0) and Monticello (10-0) were undefeated entering the non-KHSAA 1916 and 1917 state tournaments. Henderson won the 1916 state title.

Is Mercer County the best team in the state?
Actually "very soft" were my words. You should also note that my comments noted an exclusion to their out of state tournament (I should have been more specific to all out of state opponents as they give very little frame of reference). Of the Kentucky teams they have played the only one that I would consider a quality opponent is Paducah Tilghman. Tilghman is borderline top 25 in the state, but probably more in the top 40 range. After that they haven't played another team that is in the top two in their region or in the top 50 in the state. Playing a lot of average teams doesn't make a schedule very strong. According to Maher they have the 58 toughest schedule. For a top 5-10 team I consider that soft schedule.

DAWGHAUS ratings week 3
The also receiving votes in the AP Poll would be absolutely worthless if not for a slight comical value. As long as there are enough total votes (18 this week is actually a pretty high figure compared to the norm) the top 6-8 is usually reasonably accurate, but one or two weird votes can effect the last couple actual spots. You will also see some obvious homer votes in the ARV category.

Is Mercer County the best team in the state?
I've enjoyed watching Drew Davis play. Agree that he is an unsung hero for this team. He is the type of player every team needs, and most people don't appreciate.

Is Mercer County the best team in the state?
Of the teams I have seen, Mercer Co and Dunbar are on a superior level. I haven't seen Christian Co, but based on the skill of their top 3 players, I wouldn't be surprised if they are on that same level. The issue is that Dunbar doesn't seem to be bring it consistently enough, and Mercer Co and Christian Co have very soft schedules (not counting Christian Co's out of state tourny). Also, a full strength Bowling Green wouldn't be far behind this group.

Mercer County 84 Montgomery County 51
The more I see Faulkner the more I'm convinced he's a top 10 player in the state. Maybe top 5. As a team, they are for real. As was mentioned, the Indians didn't shoot it well. Some of that is a credit to the defense, and some to an off night. Also missed some gimmies. On the positive side, Jones was great inside, scoring pretty much every time he got the ball inside. Mercer lead by 2 after the first, and it was only about a 6 point game late in the second, but Mercer went on a run to go up 16 at halftime. It stayed in the high teens until into the fourth at which point the Indians tried to press, and ended up giving up a lot of easy baskets in transition where the lead ballooned to 30.

Montgomery County/Mercer County Updates
Faulkner is really really good. Indians are going to have to shoot much better to stay in this game.

Updated Maher Rankings 1/17
I think 24 is about right for them. The issue is the rest of the teams in the 9th are way too high.

How will Owen County do in the All A State
They are my pick to win it, but will have to play 4 good games to take home the title.
