I don't follow your posts, so I'm honestly can't be sure if your being serious with this post or not. "Silly things like academics"? Bottom line, Ohio has a larger population than Ky. Thus more students- thus the potential for a larger number of good athletes and teams. Pairing an Ohio high school against a Ky high school with equal numbers usually gets you an evenly matched game. Johnson Central went and got two teams out of Ohio to play this year (Fairland and a team from Cleveland) JC was a larger school than both. Guess what happened? JC curb stomped them. The CYF (Colonel Youth Football) went over to play in the GCYL Football league for the first time this year. Lots of good football being played there at the youth level I agree. Guess what? All (3) of the CYF teams ended up in the GCYL semi finals their first year in the league. No magic formula- nothing mystical about Cinti football. Just depends on the availability of athletes at hand and some solid coaching.

Honest question because I really don't know. If you attend a school that doesn't offer a particular sport, is it permissible to attend a neighboring schools sports team that does offer that sport? For instance- if you attended St Henry as a Frosh and Soph- then wanted to play football- could you play at whichever Boone Co High School district you lived in (or anywhere for that matter) but still attend St Henry for school?

My point being Clyde- this group has had success against Highlands in the very recent past- albeit at the JV and Frosh level. They know they are capable of winning- so no moral victory.

The boys and coaches don't feel like this was a moral victory. Not one bit. They know they can beat Highlands as evidence via the recent JV and Frosh games the past few years. Maybe some parents who don't know any better feel differently- but I'm not one of them. Proud of their effort and their heart? Absolutely. I'd have every one of these kids next to me in a scrum. But not a moral victory.

The name of the game last night wasn't what Cov Cath could or couldn't do on offense- it was their defense stopping Highlands offense. Dug a 20-0 hole they couldn't get out of. I don't want to hear, "yeah but Highlands had TO's that kept it close". TO's are part of the game. Heck Cov Cath had three unforced botched snaps that were drive killers- all part of the game. Defense just couldn't stop them consistently- but then, not many teams have been successful doing that against Highlands this year. Proud of our Colonel kids this year. A ton of injuries to overcome mid season- kids playing hurt. Kids playing with heart. No one quit and that is the life lesson that will propel these young men into grown men. Thanks boys!

A change? As in a change in coaching? Not going to happen with Wirth. Very good coach, teacher and man. Will staff or schemes change? Wirth has done it before so I don't see why it couldn't happen. He knows more than anyone so I'll trust that he makes the right decisions. Talent is leveling out. JV and Frosh games have proven that the past few years.

Played Assumption. Believe Mason won the first half- Assumption won the second. Was a good match either way.

Just a side note on the Whitley/ St Henry scrimmage. St Henry was playing without any of their (7) seniors - four of which would definitely be starting including Savannah Neace the Center. They happened to be holding a Senior retreat at the school the same day and couldn't make it to the scrimmage. I thought the Lady Cru actually did a fine job considering: 1) They brought and played @ (10) Frosh, (9) Soph's and (3) Jr's 2) They stuck with a strict rotation of platooning in (5) new players every four or five minutes. I think they will do very well this year at all levels.

Must be fun being you. Roll in- spread some grade A fertilizer and run way to watch what grows. I'm pretty sure these "legit" discussions all took place down at Finke's Bar right? Since that's were all legit discussions involving the welfare of our children take place. Sheesh.

It's why I don't say much when a JC fan or two get a on here complaining about the refs. It was poor both ways. The spots in this game were bad- that one the worst. JC player gets a tremendously generous spot- by a yard IMO. They bring out the chains- they lay it down and Cov Cath players see it short and begin to celebrate. Crew bends down, makes some adjustments, confirms a little and voila- first down. It's why I don't say much when a few rogue fans begin the whining about the refs- it was poor on both sides. Now- about that sound system- I'm sending the insurance claim for my ear doctor tomorrow to the JC DJ crew in the booth. Terrible.

I have to ask JC fans and opponents- has the music always been that LOUD this year? I remember music the past few years, but holy cow, tonight was over the top. The screeching eagle was borderline assault on the ears. I love a good atmosphere with well timed music and movies quips- but the volume was downright obnoxious. Great game by the Colonels. With a lot of kids dinged up, the coaches put kids in positions to succeed and it paid off. Beat Highlands!

Just curious- were all these guys out vs Johnson Central?

Oh yeah- like Durham from Campbell Co. Like when Cov Cath beat them like a drum every time they played. That seemed to serve them well. But then again, we are talking about Cov Cath. Stick within your vacuum packed SK world and try not to venture out.

Your right- cause every kid 6'-3" and 200+ pounds is qualified. Dude- seriously- you don't think if there were a young man capable of playing QB- at any weight- that he wouldn't be made a QB? I'm pretty sure the coaches know what they have. Thanks for the concern though.

If they pick Johnson Central to win each week then I guess I can see why. Wonder who they picked last year between Cov Cath and JC- or the year before that.

You won't see Cov Cath playing base 3-3 against a team like Johnson Central- you just can't. Wirth has developed a defensive scheme against JC when they come to the line with two TE's and a full house backfield which involves more men on the LOS and making each player stay assignment sound against the belly/ dive option. Can't say what happened prior to two years ago, but the last two years, Cov Cath has defended against this offense about as well as anyone Johnson Central has faced. At least that's what we hear in the stands. I believe Sammons got dinged up a few games back and Shelton stepped in that role. He is a terrific young man and talent as is Sammons. The LB corp looks terrific next year. As for this year, I'm nervous as all get out- I remember feeling the same way last year and that turned out pretty well. I'm going to say Cov Cath by a TD just to hedge my bet. I do think this JC team seems to be willing to break away from their traditional run, run run scheme. Run will be the first most obvious goal- but they may turn to the pass quicker than past JC teams. Just hope for a good clean and safe game.

If that's the case, I can only assume that coaches work around the offending party and go around them to the other team and request their film instead.

Somewhat. Sam Dressman was out. Luke Bir, Adam Wagner, Sam Burchell and Evan Braun were all just coming back from their season long injuries. All played- some more so than others.

Agree 100%. If JC is the current projected #2 team in 4A right now I like Cov Cath's chances. ,
