  1. SS was played flawlessly! She made a great play for a 6-3 double play where she got a hard ground ball hit to her left got it went to the base where Quillen was bearing down did some kind of 360 turn inwards to avoid the girl sliding to fire a rocket to first for a very nice double play!
  2. A great article! Its a good read for "Sports Parent" like myself who loves to watch their kids play sports, but sometimes needs a reminder what its all about! Good LUCK WV Parents working through the problems outside the lines, and hopefully the emphasis gets back on what is truly important! For the record in this sport it should be the young ladies that work hard to play a game "between the lines" for the LOVE of the GAME! What Makes A Nightmare Sports Parent -- And What Makes A Great One | ThePostGame
  3. He said after game he Umped a couple years ago! He did a great job its not often when both teams say an umpire did a good job! The game was well played by the young ladies from both teams with several nice defensive plays! I have to say it was nice change for the umpire not wanting center stage, and just do his job.
  4. Anybody that doesnt have the top 4 in whatever order is Dillusional! Although I am a (HHS) homer and will go into my wannabee group (5-9) after I give you my IMO the top 4 and until someone BEATS them they are the teams to beat in the 9th Region! 1. Notre Dame- I give them the edge because they seem have more pitching 2. Ryle- Very Close behind ND 3. Boone County- From what I have seen they are the closest thing to knock off 1 of the top 2 4. Conner- Until the game is over I dont know that you can count them out! I think the rest of the Top 9 could Rotate and on any given day depending on the matchup it could be a Win or a Loss! Lets classify them as wannabees they wannabe mentioned with the top 4! Until one of them seperate themselves from the pack (5-9) lets face it, it is a good matchup! When one of them steps up and beats a top 4 team they can be mentioned with top 4! Until then 5-9 will continue to be good matchups vs each other and will continue to debate who is the best of the rest (5-9) with head to head matchups at which time they will go to the head of the rest in 5-9 category until then they are all wannabees which should make for a GREAT 9th Region Tournament! 5. Highlands- Simply so I dont loose my HOMER STATUS need to continue to improve! No Doubt needs to improve Defensively to play with top teams! Should be able to play with any of 5-9 teams on any given day! 6. Holy Cross- HHS hasnt played them yet but anytime you have one of the best players in the Region you are going to be a tough out! Should be able to play with any of 5-9 teams on any given day 7. Newport Catholic- I know St. Henry beat them but I see NCC as a solid team and keeps improving week to week! Should be able to play with any of 5-9 teams on any given day 8. St. Henry- Beat NCC and going to final 4 of All A Classic. Anytime you have good pitching and good D you should be in the game! Should be able to play with any of 5-9 on any given day 9. Dixie- Better not look past Dixie by the end of the year! After seeing them in the uncle Pete tourney they definately Compete! (I dont remember the blown call in the HHS vs Dixie game in the uncle pete) Should be able to play with any of 5-9! Bottom Line is the Top 4 is that the top 4 in the 9th region if you want to be in the top 4 seperate yourself from the rest and beat a couple of those teams! If not their is nothing to be ashamed of being in the next group (5-9) because not much seperates these teams and with some work and a little luck I think any of the 5-9 teams could upset a top 4 team! I think the 9th region Tournament will be worth the price of admission! Good Luck to ALL!
  5. Conner played solid I can't remember any errors young lady pitched a good game. I think they had 6 hits! Highlands played good just not good enough to win! 1 error I can think of. Couple mental mistakes. I am guessing 5 hits! Not even close to as good as Lawnboys results but just posting result maybe somebody will post more exact stats!
  6. Now your talking a good fund raiser could collect admission.
  7. First HHS game I have missed in couple years (had a chance to go to The Masters Sat & Sun) Hated to miss this game but glad I missed the play you mentioned not to mention she missed a sign! Lets hope she doesnt make these mistakes again. She likes playing First but has a lot to learn! Can't make mental mistakes like that and miss signs if your going to beat good teams! ND is a good team and Smith is a very good pitcher!
  8. In my Opinion it depends what the team and coaches are trying to accomplish! If your primary goal is to have a great end of season banquet you play the weaker teams and you finish with a 20 win season everyone feels great, plenty of awards and great stats in many categories to brag on all off season. They might even be used in the next season pre season polls. If you are wanting to prepare your team to be able to play with the best and be in a situation to win Regional Championships you have to play the best teams in the Region. You need to see the best Pitchers! You need to see the best Hitters! You need to see how the best teams play situationally. In the High School Format everyone enters their District Tournament (which should be seeded) so your record only matters for seeding purposes. Then it comes down to how prepared your team is to compete with the best of the best!
  9. Thank You! Good Luck with next couple weeks! See you all on the 25th.
  10. Great Game to watch! Both teams hit it pretty good putting pressure on the D, both teams rose to the occassion and played well in game 1 of an exciting District Matchup. Does anyone have the stat on how many baserunners were left on base? It seemed like both teams had mutiple opportunaties to score throughout the game but a nice defensive play would end the rally! I remember a line drive that Whitney Quillen for HHS where she went back having to stretch out to make the play for the third out that I think saved a run or 2. NCC Shortstop made a nice leaping catch on another hard line drive! The throw from the first to third in the first inning to get the first out was a big play after just 2 batters with Graybill coming up to hit. NCC Center Fielder made a great throw to Schrieber who was in perfect position at the plate the runner who tagged up had no chance on what looked like a run for sure. I know there are others! It would of been worth the price of admission! Game 2 is scheduled Thursday April 25 at Highlands.
  11. I hope this is the last Spring Break without softball my DD sees! Its like taking a weeks vacation in middle of season! Hopefully Highlands goes to Myrtle Beach next year or somewhere warmer and play about 6 games and makes it an annual trip. I believe coach C has told them no more spring breaks without softball, but since he got the job late and some already had plans he allowed them to go this year. Its going to be a interesting week back after 10 days without games! Tonight vs St. Henry The Butts girl pitched a No Hitter last time out! Tuesday vs Newport Catholic who is playing better than projected and should be a tough matchup Thursday vs Newport I don't know how they have been doing but they also have a very good Pitcher Friday vs Notre Dame (IMO: Team to beat in 9th Region)
  12. Ryle played solid. The pitcher had good control didnt walk a batter struck out 9, she went right after Highlands hitters after Ryle took control early jumping out I think 5-0 after 2 innings, she allowed a total of 9 hits and 5 runs in 7 Innings. No Errors in the field so pretty good D! They put the ball in play, I think they hit it pretty good they had at least 3 extra base hits (2B miller, olivero, stephens) I think I heard 10 total hits and 10 Runs. Definately showed why they are considered a top team in the Region. Highlands did not. Allowing 10 Runs (2 Earned acording to the App) on 10 Hits and 3 walks and at least one hit batter. I had the count of 8 errors and could debate a 9th one so I would say struggled defensively is fair. The bats did come alive and Highlands had a couple nice rallies! Overall Ryle showed why they are one of the teams to beat if you want to win the 9th Region. I have watched Highlands play Conner, Notre Dame and Ryle this week and my early season top 3 is 1. Notre Dame 2. Ryle 3. Conner Highlands still has a bunch of work to do to sure up that D which I am confident the team and coaching staff will work hard at improving! Offensively they are not all .400 hitters but I think they will be fine if they can eliminate the simple errors and stop giving away outs.
  13. The other side of that coin is at some point you have to put the backups in to get them experience. As you know you have to get them game ready at some point or at least find out what they need to work on. I would say 7 out of 10 times that game ends up not even close after both teams clear their bench with their JV / Varsity Combo players which in Highlands case are all middle schoolers. The good news is the Varsity reentered and they picked each other up and ended up winning the game although Brossart had the winning run on second it gave them a chance to learn from that situation of having the tying run on third and the winning run on second with two outs in the last at bat which I am sure will occur again hopefully not after having game in hand! As a parent I refer to it as a team building exercise! If coaching were as easy as basic math to teach we all could do it! In teaching math 2+2 equals 4 when coaching their are so many variables 2 + 2 does not always equal 4! You have to give credit to Brossart subs they outplayed Highlands subs and made it very interesting. Yes coach Coffey opened himself up to second guessing, but I am sure he had a plan and I am sure he will use it as a learning experience for the team as well as the parents along with himself and his coaching staff. Coach Coffey is officially 3-2 in his High School Coaching carreer so I am sure he is learning every time out!
  14. The Smith girl pitched vs Highland in the championship of the Silver Bracket and looked real good doing it! She doesnt seem overpowering speed wise but has real good control and throws a heavy ball. She dominated vs Highlands after a LONG Day !!! The lady Bluebirds didnt get out of there until close to Midnight Friday Night after 2 tough (COLD) games vs Dixie and Conner, back at 8 for a 9:00am game . Silver bracket which was supposed to start at 5:30 got started around 7:00 which made championship of silver division starting around 8:30. Dont get me wrong Notre Dame had played just as many games (I dont know their gametimes) and they showed up and Hit the ball solid and like I said the Young Lady pitched real well pounded the strike zone and Notre Dame played Solid D for the ( I think 11-1) win! Highlands had a Brutal schedule and although I am sure they are not satisfied with the result but they have to be pleased with the progress! At least I am, hopefull we will get to watch some more soon! Once again I want to compliment Brossart and Softball City for putting this Tourney together I think it was a great atmosphere (70 degrees would have been better) to get too see so many great athletes and teams. Its hard to beat tournament atmosphere!
  15. Who ended up winning Gold Division? Does anyone know what actually happened in that championship game between Knock Pa and the Louisville Christian. I heard couple girls got tossed along with coach from Knock? Again I heard a girl got hurt sliding into third. An ambulance did show up.
  16. It has been a very well ran Tournament and Softball city has done a good job hosting! They have a parking issue when a game is going on and the other teams are arriving for next games, but thats a result of a good turn out! Even with $6.00 Admission the games I got to watch were worth the price of admission! It is so fun to hear teams errupt with excitement on other fields when something is happening! Bottom line you just can not beat tournament atmosphere, even if its freezing! The 9:00 game was brutal! I give all the girls credit for playing hard with quality ball so early in the season in pretty extreme conditions. Highlands Results in Pool A: Highlands has room to improve yet played pretty good still not perfect but fun to watch. Highlands Beat Dixie in their first game 4-3 Highlands Lost to Conner 3-2 Highlands Beat Nichalos Co 5-1

  18. I just hope I never see anyone get hurt with a line drive to the face. I believe some day it will be mandatory in some formats. You already have chin strap rules at some tournaments.
  19. I think the new field at Winkler Park will be very nice! I am afraid a park like you are referring is not in the budget for the Bluebirds! I read something somewhere that the Cincinnati reds community fund is building an indoor facility that will have at least one indoor Fastpitch Softball field.
  20. I am retively new to BGP, but can't help but notice 10th region Teams seem to boast about being the better Region for Fastpitch Softball! Obviously with my daughter playing at a school (who is still a wannabee) in the 9th Region! They wannabee mentioned in those discussions or more importantly wannabee competative with those top 4 teams in the region! When I look at (IMO) the TOP teams in the 9th Region its the (3)Ryle, (4)Boone County, (1)Conner and (2)Notre Dame! How does the 10th Region match up with those TOP 4? Obviously I think the middle of the pack of the 9th Region is very competative (Newport Catholic, Highlands, Dixie, St. Henry, Holy Cross, Cooper, Newport, there are others just naming these off top of my head) so how does the middle of the road teams compare with the 10th region middle of the road teams?
  21. She must be really good I thought I saw on one of the earlier threads by One of the bookkeepers from the mustangs it may of been their AD but it almost had to be someone with insider information that she hasn't given up an earned Run in her High School Career. I can't wait to see her pitch. What grade is she? I hope there are some Division 1 scouts following her around this year. Is she a hitter too?
  22. Scrimmage Cancelled between Highlands vs Conner
