  1. Just in case better get busy on that field Highlands may need to come ALL the way out to Claryville to be able to play Wednesday! The valley is under water! Look forward to seeing the Purple and Gold Parents. Hopefully we will have the field ready to play by Wednesday but they are calling for more Rain on Monday.
  2. As of right now it is still on. If cancelled I will try to post.
  3. I think Conner is at the top of the Ninth region with Notre Dame, Ryle, and Boone County. I agree it will be interesting to see how Highlands girls compete with a very good team! If you have a desire to be the best you have to play the best! I think those 4 are consistantly mentioned at top of 9th Region then the rest are mentioned in the next conversation and Obviously everyone wants to be mentioned and more importantly be competative with the best of the best in the region.
  4. I think the football field simply does not allow for a scrimmage due to the space to safely have a scrimmage. Even in practice they have to be careful not much room beyond the sidelines of the football field. On One side there is the Concrete Stands with steps sticking out and on the other side is Brick buildings with all kinds of steps and ramps sticking out here and there. Big enough for shaging flyballs or hitting ground balls but just not big enough for game situations. Definately would not be worth someone getting hurt over.
  5. Campbell County vs Highlands at HHS Wednesday March 13th 5:00 if the rain will stay away Sunday & Monday.
  6. That is definately wishful thinking! It will be amazing if they get it in since their is still snow on the ground this morning. I have faith though. If nothing else maybe they could move it too Highlands and do a scrimmage on the turf and just have a short portch in Right Field.
  7. Sounds like a big fan maybe even scorekeeper! JK
  8. Highland is at Conner Saturday at 11:00 for a varsity JV scrimmage
  9. Wasnt the Camels in the Regional Championship last year when they almost mercy ruled the other team when they had a heat emergency delay or something crazy happen and had a major colapse. I think that was without their pitcher who had broke her leg in a summerball tournament. That young lady I dont remember her name but she is a player. I would take that Pitcher over BBHS Pitcher if she is healthy!
  10. The Ninth Region will not be a push over for Ryle! Dont get me wrong they will be good but in my opinion they lost their best player who transferred to ND. I have to think ND and Conner even Boone County and maybe an unknown will give them a run for the 9th Region championship. It should be interesting the Ninth Region should beat up on each other this year which will make whoever wins the Ninth region better prepared to compete with those great teams mentioned above at the state level! As far as the unknown teams from the region that i think could add to the discussion when the season is over Newport Catholic will be improved and they were close last year, along with teams like Highlands who continues to improve!
  11. The Cincy Static is a GREAT organazation as well!
  12. Why is that? Its not like they leave early for the next level? I know we lost several girls that would of been Juniors this year that played varsity last year. I think we have those 8 games along with 4 or 5 other single game matchups ( St. Henry, Holy Cross etc...) along with our obvious district matchups vs NCC that are going to truly guage whether there will be any discussion of us on a regional tournament! Its easy to have high Hopes at this time of year! Right?
  13. As a parent of a young lady (Junior) that wants to play at the next level. What are the most important features to show on a skills video? Obviously the coaches will be able to watch a girls swing and tell whether she drops her hands or pulls her head! Do you include arm strength? Radar guns? When your showing speed do you include a stop watch? What do they want to see times from: home to first? Home to second? First to third etc... What else do theyb want to see? I understand about the stats at high school level or even travel ball especially when you read some of the daddy ball posts on here where the girls all hit .400!
  14. Highlands will be overlooked by many! Will be interesting to see how 3 juniors, 2 sophmores and 4 freshmen along with a new coaching staff will do this year. With a very challenging schedule 2 vs Conner, 2 vs Boone, 2 vs Ryle, 2 vs Notre Dame should be tournament ready. Hope everyone has a great season!
  15. Highlands should have a very good outfield when Spencer is on the mound. I would expect to see leighty on the mound a lot this year as well! Why wouldnt you want to pitch, the game of softball revolves around that circle! I am sure the coaches will ask her to do what is best for the team and knowing that young lady she will do what is neccesary! GO BIRDS!
  16. Thanks for that link! And the advice! This is a great thread! I appreciate all your guys experience! In my situation my daughters education is by far the most important, and if she gets to continue to play a game she absolutely LOVES and get her education patially paid for more power to her! Not to mention I love to watch her play!!! She is still improving and growing absolutely loves to work on her game. She has found a couple schools that offer what she wants to major in (Physical Theropy) and looks at their softball program second. Her top choice would be Ballarmine so why not start with your first choice. Which we are going to visit sometime in march when they have a home game. Thanks Again!
  17. Both these girls are sophmores and are entering their second seasons behind the plate at the varsity level. The Schrieber Girl from NC is very good! She has a rocket on her shoulder and you had better not fall asleep at first or third or she will pick you off in a blink of an eye! I am sure her bat will improve this year she has a great work ethic! Quillen is a blur on the base paths that little girl can fly! I am sure her defensive stats will improve with a improved pitching staff of Spencer and Leighty!
  18. I attended a recruiting clinic at the Kent State showcase where they recommend you make a 5 minute skills video. NOT A HIGHLIGHT VIDEO! A skills video where they hit maybe 10 consecutive pitches! They field 10 Consecutive balls! They throw 10 consecutive pitches! Put it up on You Tube and send the link to coaches so they can simply click on that link too see what you can do! Do Not send them VHS tapes they pile up on the desk until its time to clean it off! If you have a desire to go to a certain school be sure to attend their camps it gives the coach an easy opportunity to see and visit with you! Akrons coach made a point of saying you can get 100% athletic scholarship but they are few and far between! She prefers to give 51% scholarships and she was quick to tell you that if that same student is from out of state it costs them 71% of a scholarship due to out of state tuition so for every 3 out of state athletes she looses an athlete (51%) so they look mostlu in state but WILL bring in out of state athletes if they are good enough! She said to make sure the coach allows you to have certain majors some do not allow nursing students due to time commitment of Nursing school and Division 1 travel. They could care less if you hit .400 and had 50 RBIs because the stats can and typically homer stats and can not tell level of competition your playing against! They love great ACT scores and Great GPA a kid that may not normally catch there eye but has a 28 on her ACT is now more interesting for several reasons! They both said they have a spot on their evaluation sheet does kid run on and off field! Is parent overzealous yelling at Umpires etc...? Does daddy carry the gear up the hill? They do not provide that service! Little thing you wouldnt think they would look at! They said never never send a form letter! Always research the school by visiting the website try to make a personal comment on you had a great year last year coach and i would love to visit! There was so much info! They said they would not spend the money on these recruiting services! It was $20 for the clinic and I found it very interesting!
  19. I think there are several reasons Highlands has so many young ladies playing summer tournament softball the least of which is the financial coomitment! The main reason is because the girls that were playing summer ball was having a positive experience during the offseason (summer) which here in Northern Kentucky is the best time to be playing softball! There is something to be said about playing more games getting more at bats more opportunity to learn the game and the life lessons it teaches! I think 2 years ago they had 3 girls playing summer Ball, last summer the number was 8, next summer i know there is 10 and maybe more playing on competitive teams and will play in 8-10 tournaments playing at least 3 games and hopefully 5 or 6 games if they do good so that is between 24 and 60 more games these young ladies will be playing against quality competition in an exciting atmosphere! As far as financial and time commitment my daughters team is about $600 per girl and that covers all 8 tournaments, umpires, uniforms! We will travel to Columbus and Findlay Ohio which does require overnight stays so there is another couple hundred dollars, but most are inside the 275 loop! Although most parks do not allow you to bring food and drinks in we typically set up an ez up and the girls picnic in parking lot! It is a time commitment but I can not think of a better way to spend my weekends over the summer seeing the fellowship and friendship these girls develop at these tournaments is truly priceless! It is an exciting time at Highlands High school the Lady Bluebirds program is up and coming building on the foundation the previous staff (BTW they have a beautiful healthy little girl) built! The new coaching staff has set excpectations on that foundation and I think will be playing an exciting tournament style of ball! Go Birds!
  20. If working hard during the offseason is any indication Highlands will have 2 good options at Third and i believe both are Freshmen! Obviously Shelby Graybill (plays summer ball for Static) returns along with Brennah Dutcher (plays summer ball for EMR) both have been working hard during offseason and both have good bats!
  21. Highlands Gametimes (Just what I have seen by no means is it official) Friday March 22pm 7:40 vs Dixie Friday March 22 9:00pm vs Conner Saturday March 23 9:00am vs Nichalos Co
  22. Great Topic! I hope this Thread continues to follow these young ladies this season!
  23. Strictly on the outside looking in on this subject! If you talk about MVP in the 9th region on who is best player that will help their team I can not imagine anybody being better than the Smith girl! She can hit! She can play D! She can Pitch! If we put all these players in a draft and was having a fantasy leauge I think Smith would be the #1 pick! NOT KNOCKING ANYBODY! All of the girls mentioned are great ( I mean very good) players!
  24. Didnt Highlands have a couple pretty good pitcher returning (Hamburg & Leighty) from last year! Two years ago that Hamburg girl was pretty good but heard she had a bunch of injuries and the Leighty girl had a ton of potential they didnt play any D behind her last year! If the rumor mill is true and the Spencer girl plays for highlands they could have 3 solid pitchers. That is if the Hamburg girl is healthy if not they still should have 2 solid pitchers in Leighty and Spencer! Its almost impossible to do it with one pitcher unless your that girl from Newport and play a soft schedule like Newport!
