  1. Should be a close one. Depends on the pressure HHS can get on QB Matt Wilson. I still feel the birds can squeak this one out though. Birds by a td
  2. Actually they do... Their kicker has arguably the best frosh (and maybe JV) leg in Northern KY....
  3. Nice Game from pretty much all aspects ... Barring one really nice run and TD from NC, the defense stepped it up this week. Offensive game plan seemed pretty balanced but could use some more work on the passing game. Maybe some shorter routes rather than looking for the home run ball... Hergott being out showed a little rust but it seemed everyone picked up their intensity overall. I know one of the TD drives from Highlands seemed like it was about 180 yards due to some sensless penalties. But overall the team played like a Highlands team is expected to play. Interesting... Not much helmet taking off on the sidelines and most seemed attentive... Hmmmm Hopefully Kreeger is OK. Pretty scary 20 minutes on the ground with no movement. I do have one question though... on the opponents 30 yard line... what is the benefit of punting through the end zone?... Why not take a shot at a pass into the endzone? Worst case scenario is an incomplete and you give up 10 yards... best case is a touchdown or an interception in the endzone for a touchback anyway.
  4. Ditto on the Congrats... I know he is looking forward to continuing to build the program. Wonder if he will have any approval to work on the field and spruce it up? Hopefully it will be a softball only field like the baseball team has and not have to be torn up by football...
  5. "Yes Highlands did attempt to throw a little more and Kreeger did a pretty good job, however how about some more intermediate routes and I really do not understand why you pretty much abandon the running game which has been your bread and butter to this point in the season"... JOAT Throwing the ball 10 times instead of 3 is not really abandoning the running game... Other than one really good run by JD, BW really didn't give up much. But I do agree on the shorter, intermediate routes... They should be the "Bread and Butter" of the passing game with only a couple shots down the field.
  6. Congrats to the Tigers for an impressive win. Fieger is the real deal at QB with some really nice passes. I was really impressed with the discipline of the Tiger team. No really terrible mistakes. It's nice to see a sideline with every player with their helmet on and paying attention to the game. Seems like the Highlands sideline was too busy having social hour. HHS twice had to call time outs in the first half due to the slot reciever not knowing where to line up. As a 'Bird from way back, it's disappointing to see over half of the kids with their helmets off and "chatting" during the game. Since when did that become acceptable? Enough of the rant... The coaches did open the playbook and Krieger did a pretty good job. A little confusion with the routes caused some missed opportunities but with more time in the passing game that will be better. Dorherty didn't have much to run through as the Beechies did a nice job filling the holes. Some nice catches helped spread the field. Highlands could use some coaching in tackling... Not sure why they always feel like they need to tackle aroung the shoulder pads, but Beechwood runners gained extra yards on most plays after the first contact.
  7. Nkyfootball. Nice prediction. Halftime 19 to 7 BW. Fun to watch a disciplined team ... Not a helmet off on the BW sidelines. Remember when you could say that about highlands?
  8. This one is a little scary for the Birds. If the offense continues to be one dimentional it could be a long afternoon. The O-line is getting better and opening up the playbook could take some pressure off the run game. The extra time should help whoever is going to QB... Anyone heard anything about Hergott? Will he be ready to play? I haven't seen Fieger QB, but have seen his arm and his legs... Got to be one of the stronger arms in NKY as a Frosh... Scary part is.. This kid is fast and mobile so DB's have to watch out for when he tucks it in. The kid played baseball for me and truely a gamer. Really good, heady kid. D-Line has been getting good pressure latley so that should help. Just stop with the two-hand-tag tackling on the outside and wrap him up. Prediction... Same-ole.... Same-ole offense for the Birds... Beechwood by 2 TDs....... OR...... New Balanced Game Plan and the Birds by 7 Of course I am just a bit partial to the passing game.... But that's just me
  9. Highlands has to expand their offense if they want to continue to win against better competition... The trips left, dive right works ok in the first half but in the last two games it hasn't taken long for the defense to figure it out and pretty much clog it up in the second half.... Put eight in the box... force them to throw... Should be written at the top of every scouting report against HHS... Tough to get good at the passing game when you throw three plays a game... But a win is always good... so congrats to the 'Birds
  10. Highlands squeaked one out 14-7.... One score was a pick six.... Austin H. got hurt in the first half, not sure what happened....He was in street clothes before halftime... Jared D. did well running the ball... They have thrown the ball a whopping 7 times in the last two games... Not too tough to scout.... Trips left... right dive... or they really mix it up and have the QB keep on the right dive... Pretty creative play calling.... Going to be interesting when they play a good team.... But hey... a win is a win
  11. Jared and Mitchell each scored a TD today during the Jamboree (Kind of a half field scrimmage) . Sounds like the coaches are "Bluntly Honest" and very loud I guess... but those guys should be used to it as they share the same AAU Basketball coach. Sorry TD, just had to get that jab in.... lol Word is they are learning alot... from footwork to carrying and catching the ball... should be interesting to hear more of the stories once they get home... good luck to both in their upcoming games...Send the Red team home pouting and the Swedes back to IKEA for some meatballs....
  12. Cain played WR and some QB for the Red team 5'11" (still growing) about 145 (added 30 lbs since fall with the help of Wiefit)... Moved into town last year... Tall, athletic, soft hands, deceptively fast... Runs crisp routes... Should provide a nice target for AH. Played OLB on defense but probably more of a corner or safety as he gets older. Also played freshman baseball (Shortstop) and 8th grade basketball (Forward) Dougherty is a hard nosed RB that has some pretty good legs but likes to run north/south... Definitly delivers the blow Tough on Defense too. My guess would be LB. They had 7 on 7s tonight in TX and Cain caught a TD outrunning a couple DBs. They split the USA kids onto 3 teams... Cain is on the Blue squad and Dougherty is on the White (I think)... Two USA teams will play each other Thursday and the other one will play Sweden... Not sure who plays who yet... Did hear the Sweden team is bigger overall but maybe not as skilled. I will get more updates tomorrow...
  13. I guess a definition of toughness would be the Cain broken finger (on his throwing hand) requiring 2 pins to repair. Broke on the second play of the game. Didn't say anything to the coach for fear he would be taken out and proceeded to throw a touchdown and extra point pass, catch an extra point, run a 45 yard td, pick off a pass and record 4 tackles for loss at outside linebacker. Taken to the emergency room after the game and finger broken in two places... Maybe not the smartest thing to do by continuing to play but I would say the kids pretty tough.
  14. Good Luck to the two Frosh, Dougherty RB and Cain WR, heading to the University of Texas for the Team USA 15U National Team!!! Nice recognition for a couple of pretty good athletes. Partial here, but good kids off the field as well. They should represent HHS in good fashion.
  15. Absolutely... But if all 13 year olds did what they are supposed to do there would be no reason to have the coaches in the first place.
  16. You're right.... I am cancelling my ESPN, stopping the newspaper and rippng the radio out of my car first thing in the morning!!! I would hate to hear anyone being critical of any coaches i.e. Marvin, Dusty, Billy G. even Coach Cal... Hey tell you what... I'll run by the store and get some orange slices to go with your "Blue Kool-Aid" for between games tomorrow. Hopefully we can talk them into not using the scoreboard so nobody's feelings get hurt (Hopefully Henry Clay's). BTW... If you have to subscribe in order to post to a forum, then it is not a public forum... Go Bird's Rack up a couple W's from your Lexington foe tomorrow
  17. Thanks for the Welcome.... Yep.. Playtowin29's first post but not necessarily my first post... Sorry you don't agree... Just stating the facts... It is just frustrating when I hear, both individually and collectively from good ballplayers on and off the field, that they may not play the game anymore and mostly for the same reason... After 25 plus years of donating my time helping kids learn the game, I have witnessed my share of kids AND coaches (and yes, sometimes myself) daydreaming and costing games. You won't hear me "bashing" kids here. They make mistakes and usually learn from them. Instructors that continuously make the same mistakes..... well..... shouldn't be instructors.... Go Birds!!!!
  18. Talent yes.... Coaching???? Wonder if he would even coach if there wasn't, even though it's small, a paycheck.... Down 2 runs in a ballgame... hard flyball to right... runner on third.... Not one word said about tagging .... Batter did his job... Coach too busy daydreaming with his hands in his pockets... Talent ended up winning the game... Just one example.... Could list many for every game I've been to.
