Yes, but I would argue that Belfry isn't the norm. Plus, the triple option, and the fact that you have to rep it so heavily (to the exclusion of other stuff), makes in-game adjustments more difficult. I would also say that there is a difference between the belly (Belfry) and the veer (which I think the old Garrard teams primarily ran). I am not saying it can't be successful, but I wouldn't say it is the best offense to run. Just my opinion. I also don't think you can build a system around players - because you would have to install a new system every season. . You adjust your playcalling, formations, etc., to your players, but you can't have an option offense one season, then go to a power, to a spread, etc. etc. There MUST be a system.

I don't... It is a fun offense, but it makes you one-dimensional. Running a triple-option requires so many reps that, if you want to do it well, you basically can only do THAT. Makes it hard to be multiple in your attack.

This is problematic... Don't think it is wise to take a HC job if you cannot already have that in place, IMO. One of the reasons a lot of "searches" don't work out -- you need assistants in the building.

I think it is important to note, that reviewing all applicants is called due diligence, and it should not be considered an insult to Perry, Jaggers, or any coach. Even if there are favorites, doesn't mean you don't look at all the options. And that doesn't make you weak, dithering, or incompetent.

Most don't do it until after Spring Break, now... So even if they don't hire until mid-March, that would give whomever they hire a month or so to settle and plan practices.

Just because he retires as a teacher, doesn't mean he has to retire as a coach... In fact, I would argue that is an ideal situation. He is still pretty young... late 40s, early 50s, maybe?

Really good high school football player - don't know if he will ever be an SEC-level player. There is nothing wrong with that, just seems like he probably could have gotten good scholarship money at some smaller schools. In the end, it is his choice, and I applaud him for it. Good Luck!

I think searches should be handled this way... It doesn't do anyone any good for everybody to know everything. That said, I wouldn't exactly call this one "quiet." A few names are already out there. I just don't think we are going to have A name for a little while.

I think all coaches would appreciate anonymity, and it should be the goal. I don't really think it serves anyone to know all the applicants in a search (although I love cruising the comments on coaching searches - I know that is hypocritical). However, experience shows that doesn't seem to be realistic at most schools - especially when a lot of people are involved in the hiring process.

I think it is probably best to let your AD/admin know if you are seriously pursuing another job, or if you have been approached with an offer. Just my thoughts... Though every situation is different.

I don't know who was hurt or not, but in the 3 games I saw, Boyle didn't seem to have any real gamebreakers at RB or WR. Robbins is definitely a gamebreaker.

Unfortunately, sounds like this will be a long process... We all should probably cool our jets.:idunno:

I would say that Boyle's main weaknesses for 2014 is a lack of home-run hitters at receiver and running back. Still, they have won big with less talent, IMO.

Didn't one have t-shirts with the "Dirty 30" on them? 1995, maybe? Overachieving bunch, if I remember. I think that is always a concern, but Perry has mellowed a little, I think - plus, the numbers are higer.

But, what in the world do they know about football? Seriously though, thirty days still gives a new hire plenty of time to prepare for Spring Practice. Everyone has to remember that those dates are no longer based on basketball season... Now the school sets it.

I doubt that... They have a returning starter. Would think it is his job to lose, unless he is injured. They did lose a few OL, but the only real loss on defense is Goodman (which is a big loss, admittedly).

My impression was always that he had been fighting for resources/support for the football team for years at Garrard. I will say this - and I am sure someone on here will disagree - the situation for the football program has improved from a resources standpoint. I don't know if Coach Scenters ever asked for anything he didn't get. Still limited because of the system itself, but there is an active booster program, and an admin that wants to be successful, athletically.
