Danville 2014

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the Admirals will have this coming season? What can we expect from the offense and defense? The second year in a program for a head coach is the year that shows the most improvement. This will be the year that Clevenger will have his name on the program extensively. What can we expect? Thoughts?

Veer, veer, and more veer.

This is a very good offense. Do they have the guys to run it effectively? They didn't seem to throw the ball much based on their statistics.

Don't know much about him, other than he lost a lot of kids (who quit during the year) due to who knows why. He is a Danville guy who has pretty much (I think) all Danville guys on his staff. Don't know if that is a good thing or not.

And someone please explain the "cancer" that was on that staff as was discussed on the Garrard thread please?

Every offense is very good, and has won championships...veer can be run with really any kind of talent, and some would argue that if you have no talent at all, run the split back veer (if you can't block em, read em!). Danville always has horses...They throw the ball when they have to, but they are a veer team and that is 90% of what they do!

I can't explain that but the word "cancer" tells me a lot.

Danville had three quarterbacks vying for the job until late in the summer last year. They ended up going with a freshman who had some ups and downs. They had a couple really solid running backs, which could help to explain why their passing stats were limited.

the fact that someone used the word "cancer" tells me that there was a lot going on before Harp's departure. Whether that meant dissention in the asst. coaching ranks while he was there remains to be seen. But I do know that they had a pretty darn good staff at one time.

Not just staff, but people close to the program MS, JK, KY, LV, CA. Also to answer a couple other questions. A school cannot win 15 regions, 10 semis and 7 state titles w/o both coaching and athletes. Anyone who would think otherwise is completely a fool. Danville won zero titles from 1963 to 1983 I think. Man those coaches must have been idiots (ha ha). Obviously tongue in cheek here, the grass is not always greener, and stereotyping is not always a truth when it comes to athletics or anything else. In 1988, I think the new Danville staff inherited 8 or 9 varsity kids from a state title team (4 who played) and yet the coach had 4sale signs in his yard most of the year (1 or 2 from a guy whose initials are above). 10 championship games and 1 year after, some are still acting a fool. Before you make accusations, you should walk in the shoes of the guy you are ridiculing (or so I have been told). Sometimes, things are not what you think. Coach Clevenger could probably attest to that at this time.

The coach is doing a great job. The key will be to get "the" kids out who can play.

A coach is only as good as his assistants in my humble opinion.

I agree completely. Still, there are a great many who dont understand this concept at all.

Sad but true. Those initials above ring a bell. Funny how some people really think they know what a coach does based on their observations. The real work is done when these jokers are not watching imo. When they are sitting at home reading the paper or gossiping.

So who do they now have on staff and what do they bring to the table? What about their numbers right now? I had heard less than 30 at one time.....
