Danville 2014

I agree, though...Schott was a player. Like most state title teams, there is usually very good QB play. Pure passer. A mix or just somebody who might not be the man so to speak, but when he is asked to make big plays...he makes them.

Schott could throw it, but he also had some very good receivers to get it to. And it helped having Penix, Turner, the Hopewell kid, and about 3 more backs too. They are VERY one dimensional now.

I think the catalyst for those teams was there defense more so than their offense. Exception in 2003 title game when Penix and Turner ran wild.

I think they were just pretty dang good period. Looking back at those scores, there are a lot of 40's, 50's and even 60+ scores that Danville hung on people, and a whole lot of shut outs, plus one and two TD allowed games. They beat the brakes off of people on both sides, which is usually what really good teams and/or dynasties (which, those Danville years of 84-94 and then 98-04 would qualify as that) do.

From 98-2004 they had 5 title appearances in 7 years, winning three. Sounds to me like they had the perfect storm of players and coaches all around. I would put that coaching staff up against any staff in the state, ever..since the beginning of football playing time in KY.

Now THATS what I am talking about.
