Getslow Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 No surprise seeing Male and Manual near the top of that list.
CoachJ Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Love seeing Ballard as the only Jeff. Co. public school on the list who can't pick and choose its students. Says a lot, I think, for our math & English faculty. And though we had a very tough schedule, that whole "5" thing needs to improve!

Harry Doyle Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Whole lot of poverty stricken schools/communities right there. All of it goes hand in hand. How Highlands isn't in that list I have no idea.

Are their not districts for the high schools in Louisville? Kids can go to which ever one they want? I'm not following?
Ram Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 What does that mean? Are their not districts for the high schools in Louisville? Kids can go to which ever one they want? I'm not following? I believe he is alluding to the fact that Louisville has magnet schools (Male, Manual, ext) that can draw from all districts, as well as the private schools on the list who can draw form all districts, but the non-magnet schools (i.e.: Ballard) have a "resides" rule where the students must go to their home district.

So is Central a citywide magnet school also?

Ram's got it. Not taking anything away from Manual and Male (they do a GREAT job educating kids), just pointing out that it's pretty special for our math & English teachers to make it into this group when you factor in we have to average in ALL scores from kids in our resides area who are not known for being great students (and, BTW, Harry: there's a very healthy percentage of kids at Ballard from 'poverty-stricken' backgrounds...some GREAT success stories amongst those kids too!).
CoachJ Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 So is Central a citywide magnet school also? Yes. They can take kids from all over Jefferson County.

No doubt! As there is everywhere, just saying as a whole is all.
