With the no-hitter in progress, how did Newport score their 1 run before Bellevue quit? Yes, I said quit. Forfeit is a word you use when you have no other option, or circumstances are beyond your control. Bellevue had options. Quit, quitting, quitters. Nice image for your players and school. I too would like to know if the "vote" was 100%, and what Bellevue parents think. When the teams are run like this, what is there to celebrate at the sports banquet? Did teams walk out at the banquet after dinner before the keynote address?

She always does, but there's not enough effort in the world to overcome their graduation losses and moving to Region 9. NCC will make it out of District 36 for sure, but that's as far as they will go - and I don't see that changing for many years. Lopsided amount of good players feeding into NDA/St. Henry/Ryle vs what NCC will get out of the talent pool. I agree with the theory of you can't hide volleyball players on the floor. In soccer, basketball, you can win with a few good players and hide the rest. You can't do that in Volleyball. All 6 have to be solid from top to bottom - like NCC was last year. I don't see that happening at NCC anymore. I do see it at NDA/St. Henry/Ryle.

Why do schools have them? In soccer and volleyball, scholarships come by playing in a club, not High School. In almost every case, the school has nothing to do with it. Shouldn't the club be hosting these?

Results from this weekend's NKJV Aces Challenge, and what it means for HS ball this fall . . . out of all the local volleyball clubs - NKJV, Cincy Classics, NKYVC, Blue Crush, Kenton VBC, Boone Co. VBC, Cincy VBC, Elevation, Team Z, Midwest Extreme, and Cincy East - NKYVC ran away with NKJV's tourney by winning Championships in 6 age groups: 13's (8th grade in fall) 14's (Freshman in fall) 15's (Soph's in fall) 16's (Juniors in fall) 17-2's (Seniors in fall) who played in the 17's age group 17-1's (Seniors in fall) who actually played UP in the 18's age group. That's as close to total domination as you will get. With the exception of 2 teams - Elevation's 17's with Fortner and Bessler from SHDS, and Team Z's 16's with Thelen and Ogle, you would have to say that NKYVC is the best overall volleyball club around here. As far as the 2012 KY HS volleyball season, figure out where the NKYVC players are playing their HS ball if you want to know who will have good teams this fall.

Yes - sad ending. Outside Hitter named Kaitlyn James. Put everything into her hits - maybe too much. Blew out her shoulder. Was red shirted as a Frosh due to shoulder, played through shoulder injuries as Soph, then just couldn't play anymore and had to retire. Stayed on scholarship and finished at Nebraska.

That was 2007 in the Championship match at NKU. Assumption won fairly easily, but then didn't even go to state in 08 or 09 as Mercy and Sacred Heart met in the Championship match 2 years in a row. The one in 09 was when NDA and NCC both fell in the semi's at NKU.

Someone else can verify for me, but NCC had 3 or 4 from last fall go D1 did they not? St. Henry has at least 2 -Bessler and Fortner - is there anyone else on St. Henry? It all pales to Assumption, which routinely has 6 or more players a year going D1.

One thing to note is the High School has nothing to do with it - public, private, doesn't matter. That's not where the scholarships are. No one is getting a scholarship based on school ball - and that goes for almost every sport these days (except football). No coach is going to go watch you play HS soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, etc. Scholarships come from playing club volleyball, select soccer, AAU basketball, etc. and getting seen at huge tournaments against elite competition.

Are u out there BGH? (and BGH defenders?) Same point I was making months ago when we were getting non-stop reports on BBHS winning Frosh and JV championships. Celebrate your wins, and be proud of your Frosh and JV championships, but it doesn't guarantee success at the Varsity level later.

Yes. Has to be. PSU has won 4 of the last 5 national titles. Russ Rose has won more Women's titles than any other D1 Women's volleyball coach ever (5). He's also made it to the championship 3 additional times. PSU has never finished worse than 3rd in the Big Ten. They've made the NCAA tournament 31 straight years. In 2008 they didn't lose a regular season set, not match, set, something no DI, II, or III school has ever done. They won 109 straight matches over a 3 year period. Dare I say the biggest NKY signing in any sport?

Heidi and Elle both will be Juniors. When Russ Rose, PSU head coach, suddenly starts showing up at your club volleyball tournaments, I think your college search is over. NDA is loaded as usual, but I have a funny feeling that St. Henry will get the best of them - Fortner and Bessler are Seniors this year and I think they will push hard to go to state. It's early to start ranting already, but really sucks that Ryle, NDA, and St. Henry are 3 of the top 5 teams in the state, but only 1 will actually go to state. Those 3 can beat anyone in the state outside of the I-264 Watterson Expressway loop.

For those not in the volleyball universe, this would be like a running back committing to Alabama or a power forward committing to Kentucky. Penn State is simply the best volleyball program out there right now. Congrats!

NKJV club tourney this weekend has several area clubs playing in it. Your chance to see local NKY HS players before the school season starts in August. Also fun to see rival HS players play together on the same club team, or HS teammates play against each other on rival club teams. Just some of the local clubs participating are: NKJV, Cincy Classics, NKYVC, Blue Crush (!!), Kenton VBC, Boone Co. VBC, Cincy VBC, Elevation, Team Z, Midwest Extreme, and Cincy East just to name a few. Way too many NKY HS players on those club teams to list here. Remember, many NKY HS players play on Ohio based club teams. Tourney is Saturday and Sunday at various locations. Freshman in the fall (14's) play at GE park in Springdale Soph's in the fall (15's) play at Sports Express in Mason Jr's in the fall (16's) play at Mt. St. Joseph and Western Sports Mall Sr's in the fall (17's) play at NKU Outgoing Seniors (18's) play at Campbell County Middle School

Play somebody! I know you have to play district seeding games, conference games, and geographical rivals, but this is a repeat of the girls basketball season - good record vs bad competition = trouble when the games matter the most. And I'm not the only one banging this drum. Many BBHS followers would like to see the schedule toughen up across the board in all sports. You've seen their posts on BGP. Yea, yea, I know - we don't schedule them, we just play them . . . well if you are that good, you should be trying to find better competition, in state or not (see Ryle for example) Good competition makes you better, no 2 ways about it.

As predictable as BGH is when Brossart wins, so are the NCC faithful in saying test scores don't matter when they see NCC is at the bottom. The test scores are what they are, you don't need thick skin to read them. They don't count for everything but saying they don't matter is probably not the right approach either.

Someone did get a perfect scrore - which is scary, because even with a perfect score averaged in, NCC was still at the bottom. And remember, this is not a mandatory test - only students planning on going to college take it.

Right back at you . . .didn't see you following your own advice, but since you brought up 2 sports, I think we are on the same page. My point is that to continue to be a successful player in 2 sports in HS means you must be an exceptional athlete who's willing to work your butt off . . . and then to get a scholarship to the SEC, one of, if not the premiere sports conference in the nation while still dividing your time between 2 sports is simply incredible.

The only FACT is NCC has the lowest ACT scores. The Diocese released the information and the report was published. What you claim you've seen is the opposite of a fact until you have a report from the Diocese that can back up your claim. No they don't - at the end of the day, NCC has the lowest ACT scores in NKY according to the Diocese.
