I saw both New and Woltermann a few times each and didn't see Scruggs (can't get to every game) and while I agree both players are very good and coaches do tend to spread the wealth for All-Star teams, it's hard not to defer to their judgement in the case of a tiebreaker. - Richard Skinner

UK#1 Fan, just an FYI, Beechwood coach Noel Rash doesn't like to release defensive stats other than interceptions. He believes too much credit is given to the tackler and not the guys who helped create the tackle. Hope that helps. Richard Skinner

All of the All-Star teams have been done since mid-December, but because of redesign of paper they apparently aren't going to run until Jan. 14 from what I was told. Hope that helps. Richard Skinner

That would be hard to answer, but it is likely a writer from your area. It's also possible when dragging down on the position option list that the person nominating "clicked" on the wrong position group by accident. I actually did that with a player and was able to delete and start over, but if I hadn't caught it in time it would have been a mixup.

Clyde, Actually I did have Vocke on the list, so not sure if honorable mention only comes if a player garnered votes.

Sportswriters and broadcasters (I believe) from around the state nominate and again can only nominate up to 15 players. Most nominate players from their area that they feel are deserving often with input from local coaches. Based on nominations (and lack of nominations from parts of the state) there were some noticeable gaps from different parts of the state. I didn't nominate Pike, because I thought there were 14 other players from Northern Kentucky who had better seasons (actually two of my nominations went to kickers - Joey Nussbaum and Evan Talkers) and he would have been the third QB I would have nominated. I nominated Towles, obviously, and Brady Hightchew, who quite frankly is a great high school football player, even though he doesn't project higher than Pike when it comes to being a college player. Jason is right. I was one of the voters and part of the problem with the process is that if a player isn't nominated then you can't vote for them and you can only nominate up to 15 players and those nominations are usually players from your specific area. Neither Mayfield's Jackson nor Timmons were nominated and having seen both of them play while covering the Beechwood-Mayfield game and Conner-Franklin County game they are sure-fire, absolute first-team guys. I'm not sure how the process can change for the better, but it certainly needs to change to make it a much more representative and inclusive process. - Richard Skinner

dmh115 you piqued my interest so I went back game by game to what was reported to khsaa and seems like whoever entered stats from the ryle game for highlands gave carter new 7 two-point conversions and extra-point kicks. Highlands indeed should have 98, but as noted it only has 91 reported to khsaa so in order for it to be fixed and become a record someone from the school needs to fix the error. Just an FYI: According to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association: Highlands kickers have 91 extra points, thus needing seven extra points to break the record, and 7,010 yards total offense, thus needing 400 yards total offense to break the record.

It was indeed a bang bang play in the end zone and it's certainly a call that different people are going to see differently. Noel told me after the game he thought it was clearly interference. If it had been called interference it probably would have been an argument from the Mayfield side and when it wasn't it certainly was open to an argument from the other side. Penalties were just heat of the moment stuff in an emotionally charged and extremely well-played game. For what it's worth when a kid from Mayfield got hurt and had to be carted off, Noel walked all the way across the field to shake the kid's hand and wish him well. - Richard Skinner
