The only argument for this would be the large disparity in male population that these two schools have over their counterparts, otherwise they are being punished for their sucess.

I think the variance becomes way to wide if you are allowed to provide full need based financial aid to attend a private institution, or be allwed to have alumni pay for student athletes to attend through a sponsorship. However, as I suspected, , I am sure that 50% is the max aid available. As far as sponsorship goes, I am still surprised how long it took for someone to say that simply isn't true, because if it is, it is a rules violation. AL must have been wrong, or there is a serious problem. As far as giving up football to further that mission, I know many Trinity people, and I don't believe that is a realistic statement.

This thread has been eye opening. I have personally always argued against a public private split, but now I am seeing many points for it. Especially if student can attend a private institution entirely on need based aid. The work harder and get better point that I have read several times seems to be shrinking under the attendance and draw rules and policies that I have just read about on this thread.

You can't attend a private institution under full scholarship for any reason and be an eligable athlete. If you are attempting to keep athletes in your district, and they are going to a private institution, I fail to see how that doesn't become other people's business. It becomes other people's business when competition is involved because those decisions are affecting other people IMO. As far as the beating the dead horse from the earlier post, I am simply waiting for somone to say that no one has ever attended Trinity on a sponsorship. This is the first I have ever heard of it, I have asked about it, and no one has fully refuted it. I would have thought this would have been fully refuted the first time someone bought it up in this thread, but it wasn't.

Actually 100% of need if it exceeds 50% of tuition cost can't be provided and be legal for the KHSAA. Also, neither can outside sponsorship. Ask LCA. That is why I am interested in the fact that nobody has openly refuted the statement made earlier on here that students have attented Trinity off of sponsorship. The only reply that I have heard thus far is prove it. It would be great if someone could clear that up. Also, I would disagree with the none of your business reply. I would say that finding out why students are choosing to go to a private institution and how they are going to such institutions is the business of everyone that is competing with them.

Is this an example of a person from one school brining up shady events about another, then that school brings up shady events in the other school's past, but neither member of the two schools deny any of the shady events? So gentlemen and ladies, are there sponsors at Trinity? How many blue chip athletes have taken spots from a Jefferson county public "academic" institution that could have been filled by students from Jefferson County? I am becoming more curious the longer I read?

Rob Reynolds was a senior on the 92 team. He recieved a ride to UK, didn't like it, and transfered to Murray where he played for Houston Nutt and had a nice career.

I couldn't agree with you more. That is not my point. My point is that Highlands specifically draws football players to their school that are from other communities which gives them a larger draw of football players than their student numbers would suggest.

I wouldn't think that a scout found him, but I am sure he had no bearing on the sucess the team had his senior year.

I am claiming that Highlands has a larger draw than Ft Thomas and that their sucess is helped by out of town players. Do you claim that this isn't true? I named one off of this year's team that I could think of off the top of my head and the best reply that I get is that he had ties to the community. He started his high school career at another school and I am grasping at straws? Or is it that he didn't help Highlands win, because he looks like an impact player to me. I would also be willing to bet that he is far from the only ousider on the Bird's roster, but you would know that better than me. I am not saying that this is wrong or illegal, I am saying that it gives Highlands a greater draw of football players than most of their class competition, whether they have a larger student population or not.

Once again, not reading the discussion and touchy about the facts. It is far from a joke of an argument. They have not played a team in 5A that has their draw except maybe Covington Catholic. Therefore, call me unimpressed by the playing up argument. If you want that to hold, play up to 6A. In truth, Highlands and Cov would have both had tougher playoff competition in 4A the last two years. Why would Union have sour grapes towards Highlands? They don't get many of our players. I can only think of a kicker from several years ago, but maybe I am wrong.

What better example is there than someone who starts as a freshman at one school, and transfers as a sophmore? I don't care if my mother is from Jamaica. If I have lived all my life in the U.S. and move to Jamaica when I am in high school I am not from Jamaica. Having ties like one of your parents having gone to a school does not make it a bad example.

If I am not mistaken, he grew up in Kenton county and started his career at another high school.

Once again, from out of town without paying tuition. It is a draw that most schools don't have.

I am quite confident that Bruins sp will get a scholarship. Also for 75, you don't have to be paying tuition to be from out of town.

Depends on the kid. If you are talking about division one players, yes. You are talking about definite football players vs. 50 kids that may not have an athletic bone in their body.

If you have had kids in your program from three counties and across the river in the last ten years how is that not a three county draw?

Obviously you haven't read one of my post. I have given Highlands the respect they deserve in every area. This line of conversation has come from Ft. Thomas posters claiming how impressive their 5A run has been since they are at a numbers disadvantage. My contention is that due to their draw area of athletes they have no true numbers disadvantage to any 5A school. Of course, quit complaining and keep working can be considered by some to be an acceptable answer to the points that I have made. A realistic one would be that athletes from multiple areas contribute to the Birds sucess, but that seems to be tough to get out of a Highlands fan's mouth. BTW, don't worry, we will keep working.

Which part is fantasy? The scholarship athletes, or the fact that several of them were not from Ft. Thomas. Of course every player contributes to sucess. To say that Highlands has the same draw of athletes as schools around the state of their same size class is fantasy. If you have 400 boys with a greater than 30 % football interest and a three county draw you will have more athletes than a school with 600 boys from the same living area. It is about a draw. If you think 200 boys is an advantage, how about a 600-700 number advantage. This is the advantage that most 6A schools are attempting to overcome when they play Trinity and X. Highlands has excellent tradition, community support, and work ethic. However, lets not try to discount some other conditions that contribute to their sucess.

Really? Even when the 2-4 that are added to the team are college caliber athletes specifically coming to your program to play football? I don't think so. Most school with 600 won't have one scholarship caliber athlete. Highlands has had multiple scholarship athletes from out of town in the last 15 years. To not acknowledge this fact is fantasy. Of course, those players have had no impact on Highland's sucess?

I never stated that Highlands is doing anything unfair. I simply stated that they have ever advantage in competition within this state that exist. Therefore, I would expect them to dominate 5A. The "We are playing up so it is more impressive" argument doesn't hold with me. It is not being accomplished with a group of athletes soely from a small community.

Check your facts. Not every district accepts tuition students.

WHAT does any of this have to do with the fact that Highlands has a set up that allows this to happen, which IS an advantage. Everyone is aware why somone might want to go to Highlands. If you would have bothered to READ the post that you replied to, you would realize everything you said had nothing to do with his point. The point is that Highlands has the lack of draw restraints of a private school with less than a third of the tuition of a private school, which makes it very easy to send your child there. Therefore, dominating 5A hasn't been as impressive as a previous poster felt that it might be.
