NCC not having Logan Neff certainly makes a difference. Hope he heals and gets back to playing football soon. I thought the game being 7-6 at half was fairly deceptive. Beechwood had 3 turnovers in the first half and four for the game. Beechwood fumbled the ball on their own 10 yard line on their first drive but kept NCC from scoring by intercepting the ball in the end zone. I believe Beechwood scored on their next drive and NCC responded with a TD on their next drive. Beechwood was moving the ball but turnovers cost them on some drives. Beechwood defense was the difference in the game. Beechwood did an excellent jobs shutting down the NCC screen passes that usually hurts them at all levels versus NCC. Outside of the TD scoring drive in the first half NCC didn't have that many yards until the drive at the end of the game vs the Beechwood subs. Jacob Arlinghaus was destroying his man on punt returns. That player was getting pushed back so far he would run into the punter. One time the punter hit him with the kick and only netted a 3 yard punt. I thought the Beechwood coaches did an excellent job. The used both Ryan Bankemper and Jacob Schmidt at tailback and that kept them fresh. They are different style runners so it likely made it harder for NCC to defend. Jacob Schmidt didn't play much defense so he was fresh and that allowed him to make a cut or two and then run away from everyone on the long TD run. The long pass for the touchdown was great call. Several runs in a row had the NCC defense looking for run and the 6 foot plus Brayden Combs got behind the defense for the long pass and run after catch. Brayden had another catch and long run that got the Tigers down to the 2 yard line to set up their final TD. NCC was definitely having fatigue issues. Several guys went down to cramping. Beechwood freshman team is fairly deep, especially on the line but their are probably 5-6 guys that get significant time on both sides of the ball that weren't having the same issues as the NCC players. Congrats to both teams. NCC played hard to the final snap! Beechwood's freshman team is made up of 8th and 9th graders. There are six 8th graders who get regular playing time. It will be interesting to see these guys in two years at the varsity level playing with the current sophomore class. That team could have a nice mix of experience and talent. Rumor in the stands was that NCC had 4 sophomores playing. Is that true? My understanding is that it was agreed upon but the question is why can't NCC get enough freshman boys out to play. I don't remember this being a problem in the past. I feel the refs need to pick up their game! There were 2 hits out of bounds that should have been called but weren't (one each team). After the 2nd hit on the NCC quarterback Coach Eviston came from the 25 yard line (holding his daughter) up to midfield and was giving it to the ref on the sideline. I'm sorry, but a coach who isn't part of the game coaching staff shouldn't be able interact with the refs.

I still think Mayfield is the favorite next year. How does Russelville fit into the equation? I thought they said the younger Guhy was only 5'8" is that correct. Isn't brother over 6 feet?

After listening to the Mayfield/Hazard game today it sounds like Mayfield had a lot of youth contributing to this years title. With the current alignment Beechwood and Mayfield will be on the same side of the state for the next few years. You would think it would favor Beechwood since they only need 1 but who gets to 12 championships first Beechwood (has 11) or Mayfield (has 8)?

I would let the 2nd teamers score after the Hazard score.

I'm surprised at the the slant of this vote towards Mayfield. Currently about 91/9. Also surprised that there are only 50 posts on this thread the day before the game.

Like Bartels and James stated "Thank You for Your Support". Colosimo might be faster straight running but I expect Davis to do much better scrambling and making some serious yards. Plenty of room in the Beechwood reserved seating section! ;-)

When I made that comment about the line play we were talking about the loss of Bob Burnett as as a coach. Coach Burnett has very specific drills he did that are no longer done with the team. Those drills were very good, especially for the undersized lineman. Regarding QB comment: I was talking about life after Taylor Davis. There is a huge age gap between Taylor and the 7th QB for the freshman team. Regarding Taylor, I think he will be a better at running than Colisomo (sp?) but I wouldn't expect him to be anywhere near the speed of Rigdon or Elliott. I'm surprised we didn't see more of Taylor on defense this year. Seems to be quite an athlete and could have rested some guys that were playing both ways (one of my beefs!). I thought he could be a decent defensive end (much stronger than current) or safety. You could say they didn't want to hurt the back up QB but there were plenty of QBs at Beeechwood that played defense (Jeff Wera).

He must be missed.....somebody mentioned it here! How do you earn playing time on this team? Mistakes? You mean like jumping offsides multiple times? or, dropping more passes than you caught? or, receiving multiple unsportsmanlike calls because of your mouth? or, refusing to come of the field when your sub was sent in causing the coaches to use a time out? Just wondering because none of the players above lost their opportunity! We saw many of these same mistakes on Friday against Mayfield. I just don't like the way these teams are managed. I think they have gotten away from what Beechwood Football is all about!

This is interesting that you mention line play as well. I did not see your post as it took me a long time to write my post! QB is a big issue as well. The freshman team had a 7th grader at QB. He did a great job but 1)he won't be on varsity for a while and with his body I'm not sure he will be a QB.

I miss Bob Burnett as well! I know you meant Bernie Barre, but since Coach Burnett left I think the quality of our line play has diminished as well. I think you are correct here! But in my opinion this current group of coaches only focus on the Jimmy & Joe's when they are Jimmy Brown or Joe Theisman! If you are Jimmy Who or Joe Blow, you don't get developed or a chance to earn a spot. I think that is one of the reasons for the smaller teams. Kids are not sticking it out because they don't even get a chance to earn a spot or really even contribute. This current senior class probably had around 20 guys playing when they were freshman team and they finish with 9. Beeechwood always had talent but it was the lunch bucket guys that made the difference. That is one area where these coaches need to improve! ***************** Toothpick, If this is a dryspell with your team I don't want to think about what it will be like when things get better for yah!
