  1. Ditto, except the 99% number may be a little low. Probably more like 99.9%.
  2. Congrats to the Birds on the win! I haven't seen the definition of down year, but I think it means to keep working hard to travel down to Western Kentucky in December.
  3. For sure this is an interesting thread. Highlands had 494 total yards of offense yesterday. On defense they held UKs newest recruit to 37 yards on 11 carries. Their starters sat out most of the 4th quarter "again". Coaches of other teams talk about how hard it is to prepare for Highlands because of the so many offensive weapons they have. This team is getting better and better each week. If this meets the definition of a down year, this bluebird household is on the bandwagon.
  4. Is Highlands permitted to move to 6A? The majority seem to agree that six classes are too many. What is the KHSAA's reasoning and argument for having so many classes diluting the competition level?
  5. Adam Weinel (Highlands): Kicker, punter, long field goal kicker. His impact on the game is huge!
  6. Highlands "four" receivers. They have some big numbers after playing against top DBs on powerhouse teams like Trinity, Ryle, Manual, and Beechwood. They were impressive in 7 on 7 against Moeller and SK this summer. They are "some of the best WRs", and as a core, the best in northern KY. And to define "Top receiver", they aren't hung up on who does what, they play as a group and smack high fives regardless of who makes the big catch.
  7. To answer the question of this post, any thoughts on QBs so far? Towles is as good as it gets! This kid excels at camps and during games. He can throw the ball 60 yards with accuracy. He and his "entire" wide receiving core average over 20 yards per pass play! He has good speed and once again proved that he can run the ball this past Friday night. He led his team to a state championship as a sophomore. His team has yet to lose under his command. He is coachable and loves to learn. He works with his receivers outside of practice. The number of recruitment letters that he gets keeps the post office busy. He's a great student and great kid in the community. He's five games into his junior year and he is one of the best in the country.
  8. A better question may be who will end up in 2nd place? Although Beechwood does have some new faces and certainly shouldn't be handed the title quiet yet. But, they still probably have more experience than the other d3 schools. Dayton & Villa were there closest competitors last year. Dayton lost 8 solid contributors and Villa lost what may have been the best 1-2 punch in the conference. Villa does return a 6ft. 6in. junior who has a darn good skill set. The next three teams a year ago I believe were Heritage, Bellevue, Calvary. Heritage lost one of the area's top scorers...I think Broenner was his name and a great 3-point shooter...Brunner? Their two top players names were similar. I don't believe Heritage returns much. Bellevue lost at least 3 key player I remeber, Ricky Buckler, their big guy who was there forever Young, and Heage. I believe they have the same coach coming back which should help. Calvary lost their coach and his son Vandermeer along with a couple other starters. I'm not sure how they'll be. Ludlow also has a new coach and lost their best players, Hall and the point guard...can't remeber his name...started with an S. Silver Grove I believe lost their coach and their starting five. If I had to predict I would say: 1. Beechwood 2. Villa 3. Dayton 4. Bellevue 5. Calvary 6. Ludlow 7. Heritage 8. Silver Grove Thoughts??
  9. Scheduling Withrow cost the athletic department a minimum of $6000 in gate receipts. The stands were empty. For that reason alone, it is not worth continuing this series.
  10. Does it not concern anyone that the leading passing attack in Northern Kentucky coming into the game, was 0 for 7 in the first half and 0 for 0 in the second half? I get what happened, HHS WRs began sprinting 40 yards down the sidelines and Withrow DBs repeatedly ran with them never turning to look back. The HHS QB had a field day running and put some extra moves on as he ran down the field. Great coaching by the HHS staff to go this route. However, for the first 3 or 4 series of the game, HHS attempted to throw the ball. Regarding the play you are refering to Hoosier, there was a guy wide open in the flat 15 yards downfield in front of the HHS sideline. Teams double cover the WRs downfield, the guy in the flat has repeatedly been open all year. Hopefully HHS will add a short passing attack. Highlands has the best QB in the state and one of the best WR cores in the state and we had 0 completions. It's concerning to more than just this Bird fan.
  11. Got to go with Cooper. Their head coach has taken sophomores and developed them into a team! They stayed with JC for a long time last week. This isn't the Cooper of last year!
  12. I sure wish they would drop football. It would be one less required district opponent and wasted game on the schedule for Highlands. If you are not committed to compete, then quit.
  13. The USA Today Super 25 is compiled by one writer in McLean, Virginia, named Jim Halley. His opinion is just that, an opinion. He never witnesses these teams play. To put any merit in what he thinks is ludicrous. To base your strength of schedule on his opinion is foolish. Live in the moment and play memorable games that are fun and exciting to participate in and watch. Don't waste them on inferior opponents in hopes of pleasing Jim Halley. Spending half your Junior and Senior season standing on the sideline watching sophomores in blowouts is ridiculous. Google Jim Halley and then go to Reporter Index to read his profile and view his photo. You all will be shocked.
  14. Withrow had more talent on their team last year. Collinsworth was injured early in the game and did not play after the first quarter. Highlands ran the ball almost every down with very long drives, controlling the clock and offensive possessions in last season's game. This season's offense throws the ball and strikes quickly. Weinrich's defense is improving each week.
  15. The boys have dedicated their teenage years to become the best football players they can possibly be. They work hard and make sacrifices eleven months out of the year doing whatever is asked of them. They deserve to have competition placed in front of them that will provide a true test of their abilities. I don't see any games on the regular season schedule that will provide that competition. If it requires hopping on a bus and travelling three hours up the road to find a ballgame, then lets load em up. Friday night will turn into a running clock situation very quickly if Coach wants it to be.
  16. Total agreement! But, never underestimate your opponent and it is a great idea to assure the victory with your starters before you put in your JV squad. When Beechwood cut the lead to 19 points, they got pumped up and so did their fans. Least we forget that Beechwood has won state championships and know how to get the job done. Had anyone ever hear of Jacksonville State before yesterday? Also, the Highlands varsity offense played a total of about 12 - 14 total plays the first half before the JV squad came in. As has been pointed out by many a post on this site, starting prior to the season until after the Manual game just last week, there have been concerns and criticisms about how good this team would be this year. There have been posts about the QB, the O line, the backs and the wide receivers regarding their ability and inexperience. Why wouldn't there be posts like that from Highlands fans. They are legitimate concerns. But suddenly, we forget that this years starters were mostly JV players last year, who truly need varsity experience. These are the key players that are going to determine the destiny of the season. Beechwood is a great football program, but if the outcome is 20 more points on the board, and HHS players become more experienced for the battles ahead this season, so be it. Why did the game get lopsided so early? Because the Highlands coaching staff and the Highlands players eat, drink, and sleep football. They practice hard and they play hard.
  17. I some what agree with Whackem. Put the petal to the metal! There is never a reason for any JV player to be in the game in the 2nd quarter, when your varsity starters who have been working hard since, December, 2009, only played about 15 plays on offense. You get the running clock, then you put in the JV. This years former JV juniors and seniors played about a total of 12 plays the entire varsity season last year. They understand the hiearchy of football. To have to put your varsity players back in when the score gets close, is asking for pulled hamstrings, etc. by them standing on the side line for an hour. Furthermore, it's an insult to them. A victory should be your varsity players being happy, not hacked off. Pad the stats for Towles and company. Towles is being looked at by some serious programs and so are some of his teammates.
  18. In that formation, the safety was cheating to the far hash at least 9 nine times before HHS called that play in the 3rd quarter. It would have been nice to have called that play way earlier in the game and take away the double coverage to the strong side of the field, which finally occured after that play.
  19. Towles to Gold to end the 1st half! Gall's end around for a TD! Towles to Sheehan, Fox 19 news- preps play of the day! A few glitches remain, but all is good in Bluebird country as we head into week #3.
  20. I think the saying goes: Never underestimate your opponent.
  21. This sounds kind of like the HHS strategy of last year, except the HHS DBs have one more year of experience.
  22. Great job by the Birds last night, both on Offense and defense! The 1st string defense basically gave up no points and the offense has scored 40 plus points two weeks in a row. It is interesting reading the posts of how the O line and WR played poorly.
  23. Towles also had a full page write up in the Sunday enquirer. I want that guys authograph.
  24. Jody Demling of Louisville Courier journal in his inside scoop on recruiting section, lists Austin Sheehan WR and Drake Bruns DB as players to watch and Pat Towles QB as #4 player in the class of 2012! Congratulations to you 3 birds.
