  1. Rich is the best! He is another reason the HHS is a great program!
  2. JB: Absolutely, positively correct! It will result in a slew of responses, e mails, and invites from coaches at the next level.
  3. I see what your saying that his receivers hurt his QB rating. http://www.nationofblue.com/nobtv-football-recruits-67-c/
  4. I like Austin Trapp, #76 for the Birds. I've heard some discussions between players that he has been working hard and is practicing for a tackle eligible play for this coming season. Some may argue that doesn't meet the criteria for a WR, but I'll go out on a limb on this one.
  5. Great young man! We had the opportunity to have dinner with him and his Uncle in Lexington before the Auburn game. Best of luck to him!
  6. Whoa UK #1! It brings a chuckle that you of all non Highlands fans would post this. To keep this in perspective, Ozzy Sheehan only posted this on youtube for college coaches to have a quick reference, nothing more. What's up, the man who cannot find a nice word to say about WR Gold post this about Highlands. Are you coming around? Did you purchase a house in Caketown? Gotta say this though. Besides some good QB throws and some good WR catches, watch this video concentrating on blocking. Play after play there is some serious great blocking by the OL, RB, and WRs.
  7. Awesome. Lawrence is a great receiver! Congrats to him. Campbellsville has a super coaching and recruiting staff, and a nice campus. It will be a nice environment to play in. They will have a real good future, they signed 56 players.
  8. Shucks UK, I was waiting for you to present the Heisman to MVP Gold.
  9. Congrats to Austin! This guy can flat out play DB, hits hard, and is a smart football player.
  10. Great point. I solved it. I borrowed Gold's Heisman trophy and duct taped in on my license plate over the part that says UK #1.
  11. I understand that. Just in shock. My license plate says UK #1 Fan on it. I am in a dilemna.
  12. Not sure why the insult. But as a true UK family here, we don't bash so called UK fans. A Kentucky Wildcat quote that we have on our wall: Show class, have pride and display character. If you do winning takes care of itself.
  13. You don't become MVP of Highlands by being an average athlete. The little man, not fast enough theory doesn't work for Gold. Here's the stats on Wes Welker: 5'9", 185 lbs, 4.65 40. This will be this Bluebird fans last post on Gold as we move on to next year. If you look at athletes on recruiting websites, Gold is bigger and faster than many. Also, there is a thing called vertical jump for a WR. For vertical jump, begin with what he did against #8 in the state championship game. Not only that, but he has great hands, great speed in tucking the ball after the catch, great football knowledge after the catch, great footwork and is an outstanding blocker. Gold had 800+ receiving yards this past season. He missed two or three games. He sat out 3 quarters of the Beechwood game due to the score. Zero catches against Withrow due to game strategy. He could have had hundreds of yards against Woodford County. With ifs and buts he was at least a 1500+ total yards receiver this year. Again, there wasn't a DB that could contain him and some were the best in the state. Correct me if I am wrong. I've seen several players with lesser talent than Gold, burn these great recruits at college camps. Gold played on a team that won four consecutive state championships. He was a starter for 3 years. He played on a team that is tied for winning the most state championships in Kentucky. He played for one of the top five winningest football programs in the country. His career record is 58-2 and in one of the loses he ran back the opening kickoff for a TD. And he was MVP this year!
  14. Well deserved. Congrats! Great player and family. Hollingsworth is, and will be a big impact player at Morehead.
  15. Congrats to Daniel Gold, WR, Highlands MVP! Maybe some DI universities will now wake up and give him the credit he is due, but I doubt it. Not one has recruited him. And I will add news reporter polls and coaches polls. A lot of players were instrumental in Highlands success this past year. Gold was one of them that made key play after play, after play. Watch some highlight tapes and watch what he did against DBs including those that were given offers by Kentucky. Watch the catch he made in the state championship game against #8. Maybe some college coach will have a membership to this site and find this diamond in the rough! Congrats to Gold and continued success in playing college ball! You are a winner.
  16. Gold will play some place if he wants to. Somehow he got lost in the recruiting shuffle. There wasn't a DB that could cover him, he has great speed, runs excellent routes, and make some excellent catches game after game. As were all of the guys you mention here, Gold was huge in the success of the Bluebirds this past season.
  17. I'm with you bud! It's a shame that they only play high school football into mid December.
  18. Article doesn't tell the story. Bellevue gave Lloyd everything they wanted and then some.
  19. Well...the Tigers early season schedule was light. But I believe this game was Bellevue's first with all their players back. Any team in the region who loses 40% of their starting lineup to injury for the better part of 7 games will struggle. And anyone who has played the game knows it takes a game or two to get back where you were. I look for the Tigers to rebound and Villa may be in for the surprise next time around.
  20. A big game, game after game provides a coach a ton of information. And don't think for a minute that college coaches don't monitor what their recruits did against a defense like HHS.
  21. Okay, we will just have to agree to disagree. I think it is rationale to think that someone's performance in a game, setting the state record for most rushing touchdowns in a half and being MVP of the same state championship game will be looked at even better than before. I call it the cream rising to the top, showing what you can do in front of 12,000 people and live in front of college coaches that already know you. It has major impact on your recruitment! College football signing day is the first Wednesday in Feb.. Colleges are right now preparing for their bowl games and polishing up their recruiting class of 2011, this year's current seniors. There are a handful of players throughout the country that are current juniors, your so called best athletes that fall into the category of being heavily recruited early in high school. Until the pen hits the paper in Feb., each college does not have their entire class of 2011. Thus, maybe their big time QB, RB, or WR from the class of 2011 does not sign with them. That may make a difference in who they recruit in 2012. The majority of the class of 2012 begins getting heavily recruited beginning after this coming Feb.. Some in the class of 2012, while not having offers per say, are already on the college radar and have made game invites this past season. College coaches are up on what is going on with their recruits high school team and the individual player. It's common sense. If you were a recruit, would you lean towards a coach that knows your statistics and researches you and your team, or lean towards the college coach that knows nothing about you. Not talking about anyone specifically, but maybe some high school players elect to keep some things personal amongst their friends and family throughout their football careers. If you have a kid that plays football and he is a decent athlete and you wish to blow off the effect of his performance in games as being unimportant, I would suggest searching the internet for tips on how college coaches recruit. Would it not be beneficial for any HHS player to have a college recruiter look at an entire game tape of the HHS QB and stumble upon some other player, maybe on offense or maybe on defense. It happens, all because of performances in games.
  22. Not sure what this thread is all about. HHS has a number of consecutive state championships and just won with players playing only one way. Do "stud" athletes understand the team concept. For sure they do. 50-0, virtually a mistake free game. I have no idea about soceer, but high school football games have a ton of impact on college recruiting. Coaches want to see what an athlete does in pressure packed situations, in front of a large crowd, in a meaningful game, in a crucial play. They attend games and watch athletes to see if they are a team player or not, throughout the entire game. They follow their recruits weekly to see how they did in games. At the end of the 3rd quarter of the HHS vs. Christian County state championship game, one of their premier players had 8 carries for a total of 5 yards rushing. Impact, most definitely! There were some major college scouts at the championship game. Every interested college recruiter knows who the MVP was of the Kentucky class 5A championship game. Any sensible college coach would give merit to the achievement of a high school sophomore QBing his team to a state championship, then again as a junior. Don't think for a minute that college recruiters don't know the total year end stats of the HHS QB, while awesome, that they aren't padded because he and other starters sat out the majority of several games during the seacon, i.e. Beechwood, Woodford County. Does an athlete have to play both ways to be looked at by a college coach. Absolutely not. College coaches can tell if an athlete has talent or not.
  23. There isn't any problem with the HHS basketball program. There is no doubt that every athlete at HHS wants to see every sport succeed at HHS, and that all athletes support their classmates during each sport season. The stance of any athlete not being allowed to play any other sport because of football is out in left field. The difference is, the HHS football coaching staff knows their football athletes beginning in the third grade of FTJFL. They attend games and smack high fives with kids. They get to know the kids by name during football camp. They see a 3rd grade athlete at Remke's and they know their name and talk to them (It makes an impression on a kid). They encourage the kids. They give them a speech at the end of their final 8th grade game and welcome them to HHS football. It has become a ritual to be a freshman and dress varsity for the football playoffs. Since the current HHS baseball coach took over, baseball is heading this way also. Kids love playing for Coach B. I have heard nothing but good things about Coach Flynn. I believe HHS fans will see HHS basketball go to new heights in the near future! Give him some time. The younger kids will see basketball in a different light.
  24. Mitch Meyer at HHS. This guy can hit and gives 110%.
