What makes a good Official?
Harry Doyle replied to Burger House's topic in KY Football (High School)
Those that keep their flags in their pockets unless a call is so evident that it leaves them no choice, but to throw their flag. Holding is like a foul in basketball, you could call on on every play if you really wanted too. Now, if you see a defensive player about get his jersey ripped off, throw a flag. Another that ticks me off is the amount of pass interference calls you see. It's about like seeing walks called in basketball on pump fakes. Let the kids play. If one of them gets blasted before the ball gets there, and it's as visible as day and night, then call it. If not, let them play. That's it for now. -

Southwestern 36 Mercer County 14
Harry Doyle replied to cammando's topic in KY Football (High School)
From what I know with sources close to the program, the reason Jaggers resigned so late in the summer was in hopes that it would all, but force the current administration to hire Bill Mason. Jaggers knew Mason was the man for the job, the kids loved playing for Mason and to my knowledge, still do. Unfortunately, though, the administration tried every way in their power not to give the job to Mason. Let's see Mr. and Mrs. Coldweather, you weren't happy with Jaggers who went 10-2 in 2005 (premerger), 15-0 in 2006 with a 2A state championship (merger or not, the 900 or so kids Mercer had that year is nomore of an advantage than what is going on in some classes under the new 6 classes), weren't happy his last year in 2008 when he led Mercer County to a 5A District Championship. And, now, you aren't happy with a man in Bill Mason whom is trying to build his own program? Are they lighting the world up? No. However, anybody with any real football sense at all can tell you that it typically takes 3-4 years. On the flip side, if Mercer doesn't lose an explosive player like James Johnson, this team is 4-4 at worst and more than likely in the hunt for a #2 seed in the district. So, I guess at what I'm getting at is this; what does make you happy? It's negativity like yours that is part of the problem that Spread-O is talking about. It's a shame the kids that are playing there guts out and doing all they can to believe in Mason and his system, have to be subjected to this kind of negativity and I'm sure you aren't alone with your pessimism. Let the kids play. Let the coaches coach. -
If There Were Still Four Classes...
Harry Doyle replied to gchs_uk9's topic in KY Football (High School)
Oh how much I miss the good ole' days! Great work GCHS; what I would give for it to be like this again. -
Good point. Never thought about Bell being able to jump to 5A if needed. Like you, though, I just cant believe that this current set up in 3A will hold up.
-
I personally think it's the worst, geographically it's flat out terrible for Districts 3 and 4. No matter who plays who, every first round playoff game will be well over a 2hr+ drive. A potential region final game with Louisville Central v.s Bell County, too? That is crazy! GCHSUK9's proposal makes much, much, much, much more sense. Like I said before, the only reason the KHSAA wouldnt switch to that one is if they are concerned making sure that all districts have 5 teams. But, since other classes have 6 five team disticts, 1 four and 1 six team, then that shouldn't matter.
-
I think this is a no brainer right here. GCHS, I was actually working on something just like this until I took a break and happened to see that you had already had this posted. IMHO, if geographic concerns are really that important to the KHSAA as they say they are, while at the same time, not worrying about having to pacify everyone by having 5 team districts for all, then this is definately the way to go. I dont think Bell County and Corbin have to be the only ones to appeal the current district set-up are they? Can't their district and region "neighbors" throw up a red flag and say 'wait a minute' also?

Who benefits / suffers the most from the new alignment?
Harry Doyle replied to Watusi's topic in KY Football (High School)
Actually, the problem is an easy fix if the KHSAA weren't worried about being politically correct and making sure to have 5 teams in each district. Going back to my proposed alignment, all you do to balance the travel out like it should be is by adding Breathitt County to either districts 6 or 7 (or break those apart and realign) then leave the 4 team district of Wayne, McCreary Central, Corbin and Bell. -

Liking it that the Pirates arent going to have to worry about the likes of Corbin and Bell, though, aren't you? All in good fun. -
Who benefits / suffers the most from the new alignment?
Harry Doyle replied to Watusi's topic in KY Football (High School)
Why not one of these? (Note: districts 1, 2 and 3 stay the same) District 1: Heath, Paducah Tilghman, Trigg County, Ft. Campbell, Webster Co District 2: Hart Co, South Warren, Monroe Co, Adair Co, Edmonson Co District 3: Elizabethtown, LaRue Co, Central, Henry Co, Western Hills District 4: Casey County, Jackson County, Garrard County, Estill County, Bourbon County District 5: Powell County, Bath County, Fleming County, Mason County, Lewis County District 6: East Carter, West Carter, Lawrence County, Morgan County, Magoffin Co. District 7: Sheldon Clark, Belfry, Pike Central, East Ridge, Knott Co. Central District 8: Wayne Co., McCreary Central, Corbin, Bell County, Breathitt County Dist 1: Same Dist 2: Same Dist 3: Same Dist 4: Casey Co, Garrard Co, Jackson Co, Estill Co, Powell Co Dist 5: Bourbon Co, Mason Co, Lewis Co, Fleming Co, Bath Co Dist 6: East Carter, West Carter, Morgan Co, Magoffin Co, Lawrence Co Dist 7: Sheldon Clark, East Ridge, Belfry, Pike Central, Knott Co. Central Dist 8: Breathitt Co, Wayne Co, McCreary Central, Corbin, Bell Co I dont know, maybe it's just be, but those (Districts 4-8) just seem much more logical to me than the one proposed. Then again, maybe it's the whole part that Corbin and Bell County are mainstays in what we all think of when we think "Mountain Football", actually, the heart (geographically and traditionally) of mountain football. And, the idea that they could potentially be playing a 1st round playoff game v.s a Louisville school and/or one within 45 mins of Louisville seems insane. Especially when they have the likes of many, many, many eastern kentucky schools within in a much closer drive. -
CJ article concerning realignment
Harry Doyle replied to All Tell's topic in KY Football (High School)
I'm not saying they should be in the same district, but if the KHSAA tries to base this stuff off of geography then X and T should at least be in the same region and at the very worst in the same semi-state. If they arent in at least one of these, then the KHSAA needs to take their whole geographic reasoning to the trash. -
Who benefits / suffers the most from the new alignment?
Harry Doyle replied to Watusi's topic in KY Football (High School)
Which, if anybody is doing the calculating (apparently not with the KHSAA powers to be). That is a 680 mile round trip for the visiting team between Paducah and Bell County. A 10+ hour round trip. That's just stupid, I'm sorry. Flat out stupid. -
Who benefits / suffers the most from the new alignment?
Harry Doyle replied to Watusi's topic in KY Football (High School)
Pick somebody, anybody! Garrard County, Bourbon County, Estill County, Jackson County, etc. All four of those are much closer to the other teams in district four and not to mention the rest of the teams in that region (Ill give you bourbon county not being closer to wayne and mccreary). Think about this, though, with this set up the khsaa has potentially set up a state semi final game between Paducah Tilghman and Bell County. -
Who benefits / suffers the most from the new alignment?
Harry Doyle replied to Watusi's topic in KY Football (High School)
I'm shaking my head at 3A Districts 1-4. How in the world can the KHSAA logically put Bell County and Paducah Tilghman in the same semi-state? Is that not the most ludacris decision out there? First of all, there is nothing 'west' about Bell County and Corbin. Craziness. -
A lot of people forget about the job that Perry Thomas did at Campbellsville HS also from '91/'92-'99. He brought Campbellsville to a full-fledged Class A contender in the later half of those years. Unfortunately for him and CHS, Harrodsburg had more talent thatn anybody, any class in the state during some of those years and Mayfield was, well, Mayfield. I dont know Randy Wyatt, but whatever issues were going on at Tilghman seem to be fixed now.

Final Classification Numbers Issued Tomorrow?
Harry Doyle replied to gchs_uk9's topic in KY Football (High School)
I dont know about every title. Ft. Campbell, Paducah Tilghman and maybe a surprise one or two from the west would have a lot to say about who represents that side of the state in the finals. Also, don't forget Bell County, Belfry and Corbin in the east. It wont be the cakewalk you might think. -
Athletically, there is no question that they are tops in 4A. Truth be told, they could go toe to toe athletically with any team, any class. As far as which team will we all see? Who knows? Flip a coin.

Final Classification Numbers Issued Tomorrow?
Harry Doyle replied to gchs_uk9's topic in KY Football (High School)
Heard from a reliale source that Louisville Central has petitioned to move up to 4A with other Louisville 4A schools like Waggener, Valley, Fairdale, Western, etc. Which, would make very good sense for them and still give them a great shot at making it to the finals as they would in 3A, so long they stay in the west, away from Highlands, LexCath, Boyle and those guys. -
Collins vs. Bullitt East predictions
Harry Doyle replied to The Scribe's topic in KY Football (High School)
I completely agree. It wouldn't shock me one bit to see the Chargers pull this one out, and that's no disrespect towards Collins because they are one heck of a football team. The LaRue game last week was a dandy, with the game being much closer than what the scoreboard indicated. Bullitt East will have the same type of kids as LaRue, but a lot more depth. Maybe just enough depth to help pull off the shocker. -
Boyle County 63 Mercer County 14
Harry Doyle replied to toolaidback's topic in KY Football (High School)
Might be the most logical post I've seen on here in quite a while. This could go for most programs, but apparently in Mercerburg as well. -
Parrish is one of the most underrated RB's in the whole state, any class. Good size, very hard runner, very good speed and can leave you standing like you're in cement with a juke or two. I won't be shocked one bit to see Glasgow make a serious, serious run at their region title this year.

Congrats to Steve Stonebraker, his staff and players on their first win of the year. Stonebraker will get things rolling in Versailes with time and continued support. -
Heard the pads were popping up in Inez tonight. I've always thought this rivalry was one of, if not the best in EKY. Mountain football at its best.
