  1. They went 5-5 the year they just had Calhoun. Trent Calhoun and Braxton Miller are 2 of the best players Larry French has ever coached. He said it himself in the paper their senior year. I never said they weren't coached well.Trent and Braxton both started their sophomore year at WKU. You can't do that unless you have alot of talent I dont care how well your coached. Lincoln County played in the State Championship game in 90 and 93 and didn't have 1 kid sign D 1 those years either but they had alot of good players.Larry French wasn't a smarter coach this year at Boyle than he was in 2004 at Lincoln when he went 2-8 . He had better players with more talent. When Lincoln gets more talent they'll have better teams. Mike Settles has won when he's had better talent just like alot of coaches.
  2. 2 division 1 skill players will help you do that. Don't know if they have any as good as those 2 coming. Probably the most talented 2 players they've ever had at the same time.
  3. They weren't competitive French's 1st year either.
  4. Done deal. I promise. It might only be for one year due to the new realignment for 2011, but that districts next year will be made up of Bullitt East, North Bullitt, LaRue County, Marion County, Shelby County and the new Martha Layne Collins.
  5. Shelby County and the new school, Martha Layne Collins is already a done deal with their new classification and district. They will both be 4A for the 2010 season; in a district with Bullitt East, North Bullitt, LaRue County and Marion County. Not sure what district that is though, three or four?
  6. Is it me or does it seem like South Warren's success, at least early on, will depend on how this new realignment is going to turn out? IF Greenwood only falls to 5A and BG/Warren Central stay there also, then South will be in better shape than if a couple of those were to drop to 4A to join the likes of a district already made up of Franklin-Simpson, Allen County-Scottsville, etc.
  7. An old guy won 1A ,4A, 5A and 6A. 3 guys that are drawing their retirement took their teams to Bowling Green this year. Lone Oak, John Hardin and Boyle County all have retired teachers leading them.
  8. You know, come to think of it, I don't know of many teams that run the Wing-T in the state? Not that it means anything negative, because I think it's a great offense, especially if you have a couple descent backs with an athletic, option type quarterback. Then again, I don't know many, if any, offenses that aren't successful if you don't have great play at those spots.
  9. Russell won the AA title in '05. DeSales was the AA runners up this year. Two of Georgia's perinnial powerhouse programs, Lownded And Cambden Counties are full fledged Wing-T teams. I agree with another poster, with all of the athletes at Male, or Kentucky's version of "The U" as I like to call it, the offense could be deadly.
  10. According to the KHSAA web site, coach Wolfe was the head coach at Hancock County in 98 and went to Waggener in 99. Mark Peach took Atwell and Hancock County to the state finals in 99. Coach Wolfe's overall record is 72-45 from 1998 to 2007 ,his last year to coach. His playoff record during that 10 year time was 8 wins and 9 losses. He lost in the 1st round 4 times, won the region in 2000,and didn't make the playoffs in 2001.
  11. That was Mark Peach. Wolfe might have been an assitant, not for sure? Peach was the head coach, though. I wouldn't exactly call what Hancock did, "Mumme Ball". They spread it around a bit, but Atwell was a lot like the kid from Ft. Campbell (and vice versa). Atwell rushed for almost 2,500 yards and also passed for about that same amount during the '99 season. He won Mr. Football that year. "Mumme ball" is what I would refer too when you have a team that chucks it 50+ times a game, and cant run the ball with any effienciency to save their lives, puting up 30+ points a game, big stats, while at the same time giving up 40+ night in, night out. :jump::lol::laugh:
  12. I agree. He's one of the more under-rated coaches in the state IMO. Old school coach who believes in doing things the right way, and always seems to maximize his kids potential to the fullest.
  13. I know neither of the coaches, but I agree that 9/10 times it's who you know, not what you know, that gets you a job (like all professionsand coaching is NO exception). However, as much as 'who you know' has in getting you a job, 'what you know and what you do' is what determines whether or not you keep that job. Good luck to all men involved.
  14. There is nothing "spread" about Boyle. Do they get in the gun some? Yes they do. You didn't see it in the finals, but a handful of times maybe, but they got in the wishbone a large majority of the time this year. B/t that and their double tight, double flanker set that they run to death. If you are considering that "spread", then you're right, they are. Like another poster has mentioned, I think it all depends on what our personal opinions of "spread" are. For me, it's Texas Tech, Hawai'i, Troy, MTSU, etc. All fun to watch, don't get me wrong. Just aren't my cup of tea(s). The only thing spread about Highlands is the fact they are in a two back-Gun set, (a lot of pro set out of the gun is what it is a good amount of time).
  15. Watch any interviews w/ John Elway and hear him tell why he was able to finally win back-to-back Super Bowls. Two Words. Terrelle Davis. Go back and listen to Tom Leach speak about his '08 Texas Tech team and why they had the best year in his tenure there. It's because he had a couple RB's that could carry the rock better than ever before. I think they had close to 2,000 yards or maybe more on the season as a team? Did he have a QB that threw for 4,500 yards? Yep, but he also had that or better in years before. The difference? His team had a bonafied rushing attack. The game hasn't changed. There's new fads and new ideologies that have come about, but the fact of the matter is, the same principles/philosophies that teams 100 years ago founded their winning programs on are the same that teams now win with (when it counts anway), and they are the same that will exist 100 years from now. In saying all this, I think there are some definite positives to teams that do the Tony Franklin System. I just prefer "old school". Back to the topic at hand though. Best of luck to Coach Graham. I definately think he will keep things rolling at Henry County. What Chris Engstrand was able to build there is nothing short of stellar. :thumb:
  16. Dang right. I can think of several old school, smash mouth football teams that made it to at least the state semis this year and/or onto the finals, some winning it all. Sheldon Clark (wishbone until you get sick of it) John Hardin (wing t) DeSales (wing t) Highlands (2 Back Gun and I don't think they threw it 3x's the whole game in the finals), Marion County (wishbone) Bowling Green (veer) Bell County (wishbone, power I) Boyle County (Over 4,000 yds rushing on the year. They could throw it when needed, too.) Monroe County ( "I"/wishbone and definately made you respect their passing game) St. X
  17. I wasnt making reference to anybody. Walker, Tracy, none of them. Merely going along with what another poster said, in which I have the same opinions about. Nothing more, nothing less.
  18. Exactly. I don't know Chris Tracy. I hope he goes to Franklin and wins a state championship, because they are definately not short on athletes. Never have been, and never will be. Like you, though, I can't stand the whole "well, the parents and boosters like it". What people should like is WINNING, and not necessarily winning, but winning come November. If you can efficiently run the ball out of the "System", run that offense, if not, then enjoy getting patted on the back for A) throwing up huge offensive/passing numbers and B) Not being able to stop a sole on defense and C) going 4-7, 5-6 at best. When the heck those two things ever got termed "Exciting", I have no idea? :idunno: Ok. I'm off my soapbox and back to the topic. Congratulations to Chris Tracy and best of luck to the entire Franklin County football program. They definately need some stability and success. It's too good of a place not to have both. :thumb:
  19. He retired/resigned, whichever you want to call it, from Harrison County following the 2007 season I believe? Almost positive.
  20. You're right. I meant in terms of actual school districts, Henry County HS is the only high school for that "district". I'm guessing that the support Henry County gets as far as the whole Henry County/Eminence/New Castle communities are concerned, that it is largely in favor of Henry? Or no? Any chance of a merger there in years to come?
  21. You just hit the nail on the head. Not to mention, Henry County is the only show in town. One town. One county. One school.
  22. I have heard the Griff rumor, too. That's all I would say it is at this point. He has it too good at Green County, both coaching and with his assistant principal position. He would have to have an administrators spot at Barren, or he would be taking a huge cut in pay. For what my two cents is actually worth, I don't think he would leave. Barren County is in a tough spot, being in a district with Bowling Green and Warren Central, and on top of that, being in a region with Hopkinsville, Christian County, Owensboro and Christian County.
  23. I completely agree. I have no dog in the fight on the whole X/T thing, I actually kind of straddle the fence. Do I think it's remotely fair in any way? No. Do I blame parents and their kids in Louisville for sending their young men there? Not one bit. Only one change that I would make Oxnard, is in 3A. Despite Central's dominance 2 out of the last 3 years, I'd consider it to be extremely wide open. Class A, 2A, 4A, 5A and 6A however, not the case. If you arent any of the schools you named, you're basically S.O.L.
