I'm not a parent, and I did travel the state and evaluate the talent. Without question as of right not he is in the top 10 of his position and I would put him in the top 5. I agree that those top 10 will change by the junior or senior season. However, there are also kids in that group that have what it takes to sustain. England has a couple things he will have to improve, but he has many of the things college coaches will be looking for.

I agree with part of your statement. The other half I have to disagree, because you didn't travel the state and see the talent outside of Louisville. There is great talent all across the state. What part of the State were the top ranked in state prospects from this year?

I'm not involved with Highlands and don't really have any connections there. I would assume he would play Varsity or possibly JV. He has the talent to start on the Varsity level at most schools across the state. However, I know Highlands dresses a lot of football players and I can't speak to what they return this season. I would think that they would find some kind of a role for someone with his talent.

May be off topic, but the Georgia all star team that Team KY played has 3 8th graders that have already received D-1 offers. The QB (Miami) you mentioned as well as a WR (Georgia) and RB/SS. I believe they also have a DE that is being recruited by Auburn. That Georgia team beat KY 10-0 and there was not much of a difference of talent on the field. There were several KY kids that showed they have the talent to play D-1 ball. Huddleston and England from Northern KY were definitely two of those kids. I've said it before and I may get ridiculed, but KY has a lot of football talent. May not be as much depth as other states, but there is definitely big time talent. Where we struggle is getting the kids the exposure on the recruiting trail.

Southwestern Pulaski has 3 - 2 8th grade and 1 7th Meece, CAL, Bowling Green, and Northern Pulaski are going for their 3rd Corbin was the first to 4 as they got their last year. Should be interesting to see who is the first to 5.

My intentions with this thread were not for the players to be ranked or even compared. I just wanted players mentioned. I requested we mention players of other teams and not our own to cut back on the bickering about which player is better than another.

There hasn't been a lot of talk about QB's. I know Williamsburg and Boyle have solid QB's, but would be interested in hearing about others. I think it goes without saying about Vito. The kid has big time talent, and I think it would show even more at this level. He would be able to be a playmaker in the open field rather than being the work horse he has to be on his team.

He didn't say they played "Gap 8" defense. If you're not familiar with the term loading the box maybe you should watch a little more football. It's changed a little over the years...

Competing Against 32 of the best middle school teams in your division (class) is no different than your conference title? By your logic a High School Football State Championship is irrelevant because you don't have to compete against all the teams. There is a class system in high school that breaks the state playoffs up. There is also a class system in Middle School, however with only 3 divisions. This allows the playoff system to be very similar with teams having to win 4-5 games to win a Championship. Your model for your school does work fine, but to make a claim that the KYMSFA is watered down, because all teams don't play is absurd.

Northern Pulaski is very tough. I wished Boyle would join the KYMSFA. I know they have had a couple groups that would have made a lot of noise during the past few seasons.

As I said we all could go on and on about our athletes on our respective teams. However, the point of this was to acknowledge the best players at each position across the state. I have heard some good things about a couple of the Boyle players so I know that post has some merit, but I would like to see talk of opponents rather than own players.

Can you list a Name or Number and position? I would like to see them play and hopefully I will before the season ends, but we too have a game this Saturday.

Who are the best defensive players in the State in 8th grade?

I've only seen 1 game this year and #24 from the Union Raiders really stood out. We couldn't even slow him down.

I know every team has skilled athletes, and we could ramble on about the great players on our respective teams. But I would like to hear some of the unbiased opinions. Who are the best 8th grade players you have seen or played against. If possible I would like to see kids of different positions listed, not just the running backs. Are there any really impressive linemen out there?
