  1. Impressive win for SK..I'm not that familiar with either team, but, when I saw this matchup this week, I was curious to see how it would pan out..SK proved they're a legit 6A contender and maybe the 2nd best team behind St X, with Trinity being a little down from there normal standards and Henry Clay taking a step back these past few weeks and Male not the Male of yrs past.. For those familiar with 6A more than myself, do you agree or who else is out there that may be any better? Fern Creek? Butler? Scott Co? Others?
  2. Stats: Rushing - Mayfield 190 yds - Ballard 13 yds Passing - Mayfield 238 yds - Ballard 139 yds Total - Mayfield 428 yds - Ballard 152 yds Guhy - 7 of 12 - 238 yds 4 Tds 1 Int Murrell - 8 carries x 99 yds 1 TD Didn't catch WR-Xavier Sheltons stats, but, he had a pretty big night. Overall, dominating performance. Cards took control early and had a running clock early in 3rd qtr and got alot of the younger kids some good experience and came out of the game relatively injury free. Mayfield has an open week next week before there big district showdown with the Rockets of Crittenden Co..
  3. Glad you think so, cause they are #1 if I'm not mistaken, just not on BGP polls..
  4. Does it really matter who wins this one? Neither are legit contenders to make it to state or even get out of there own district, as long as LCA is in there.. Both these teams are decent 1a teams, possibly deservent of a Top 8-10 ranking, at best, but, both are 30+ pts worse than LCA...
  5. Highlands should be ranked #1, but, if they played St X heads up, I'd pick the Tigers. I just think they're a deeper, more talented team, regardless of the outcomes of the Cinci St X games..Sometimes theres just a different mindset from game to game and I think Cinci St X was really pumped for Lou St X and I think they played very flat against Highlands, possibly because of the Elder game the following week or from being emotionally spent from the 2-3 wks prior...Thats not a knock on Highlands, just an opinion..
  6. 7 - Henderson Co 5 - McLean Co 3 - Tilghman 2 - Allen Co Scotts. 1 - Hopkinsville TB - Tilghman
  7. I agree with the confusion part...The poll I went by was the AP..The poll I went by with Milan was the CoachT Fan poll, because I couldnt find the AP poll in that class...
  8. I'll be the 1st to admit that Mayfields schedule is down compared to the past yrs, but, only because the so called traditional powers are down from past yrs, but, let me ask you this, what's so incredible about LCAs...Lynn Camp, CAL, Nicholas Co, Breathitt...Sorry, but, those teams don't strike any fear in anyone...CPA is traditionally pretty good, but, this yrs version doesn't happen to be one of there better teams, by any stretch and this is probably Lex Caths worse team in 10 yrs and they still beat LCA... I know Breathitt is usually good, but, so it Tilghman and this isn't one of those yrs... Lex Cath is still a bigger school and a much better than average team, but, could they handle Trousdale Co, maybe, maybe not... CAL is the next best team they've played and they are an improved squad, but, a 10-7 win over an average Holy Cross team doesn't impress me, sorry...Graves Co would beat Holy Cross by 30+..Heck, one of Mayfields worse teams ever last year handled Holy Cross on the road with relative ease... CPA was manhandled by Ft Campbell and thats no disgrace, but, LCA squeeked by that same CPA team, so, LCA definately isn't in Ft Campbells class(neither is Mayfield, by the way), but, the point is that proves that they aren't so great that they're untouchable to all other 1a teams, especially 30 pts better...Just really not as impressed with the so called tough schedule that seems to be floating around abt LCA...It may be better than Mayfields, but, if it is, it's at most, slightly better...
  9. Another one of Mayfields preseason scrimmages was against Milan, Tn, currently ranked #2 right behind Alcoa and is standing at 7-0 and also coming off a 2008 season in which they played in the championship game and ended the season 14-1, losing to Alcoa... They defeated Mayfield 55-35, but, the varsity portion was 41-35 and a back and forth battle that could have gone either way...I'd think playing a team like that may help prepare them a little bit, wouldn't you? This is also the class Christ Presbyterian plays in and they're nowhere to be found in the Top 20... Football Division I Class AA ending Saturday, Oct. 10 Based on 17 ballots cast. Rank Team Record Points 1 Alcoa 7-0 138 2 Milan 7-0 103 3 Red Bank 6-0 99 4 Camden Central 7-0 73 5 Giles County 5-1 65 6 Crockett County 6-0 61 7 Christian Academy of Knoxville 7-0 58 8 Polk County 6-0 55 9 Gatlinburg-Pittman 6-0 48 10 Smith County 6-1 27 11 Goodpasture Christian School 5-2 23 12 Austin-East 3-3 22 13 Elizabethton 6-1 22 14 Dyersburg 4-2 21 15 Creek Wood 5-1 19 16 Maplewood Comprehensive 4-3 16 17 Bledsoe Co. 5-1 16 18 Manassas 5-1 15 19 Brainerd 5-1 15 20 DeKalb County 4-3 14
  10. The AP sure thinks Trousdale's a quality team...They've moved up to 2a this year and still rank #1 in state after a 15-0 1a championship in 2008...There new head coach last year is now 20-1 in his tenure there with that 1 loss coming to Mayfield...LCA HAS NOT played a team of that caliber this year, period...Lex Cath may be close, but, they didn't win that one either... 1A 2A AP Polls Thru Oct.5/09 by Grunt » Mon Oct 05, 2009 10:03 pm Latest polls show some more movement in 2A. FCS drops from #1 to #5....TC moves into the #1 slot, Boyd remains at #2, McKenzie moves to #3, Adamsville to #4. SP still sits alone at the #1 spot in 1A. Class 2A Record Pts Prv 1. Trousdale County (13) 5-1 180 3 2. Boyd Buchanan (5) 5-1 162 2 3. McKenzie 6-1 132 4 4. Adamsville (1) 7-0 128 5 5. Friendship Christian 6-1 114 1 6. Signal Mountain 6-1 100 6 7. Hampton 5-1 88 7 8. 11. Why is okay to make an excuse for Breathitt being bad saying noone expected them to be what they are but then talk about how weak Tilghman, Marshall, Calloway, etc...There record is what it is, Breathitt, like Calloway and PTilghman are traditionally good teams... Mayfield makes it a point to play the areas best teams yr in and yr out, regardless of classification in addition to playing strong out of state teams like Milan, Tn, Trousdale, Tn, Evans Mater Dai, Sikeston, Mo, Bellville Althoff, Ill, Jackson, Tn Northside, Union City, Tn, etc...These are just a few of the out of state teams Mayfields played in the past few yrs off the top of my head... When posts are made like that it simply shows how tinted your glasses are or how short sighted you are in your thinking. It's okay to back your team and think they're great, but, it's another to blindly make an opinion when you really have no idea about the opponent you speak about... Looking forward to the new info and retraction you speak of...
  12. QUOTE=westsider;3558864]Lone Oak and Mayfield have two common opponents. Both hammered Marshall County. Mayfield beat Graves County 28-13, while Lone Oak beat the Eagles 17-7. I would take Lone Oak to beat Mayfield, but it wouldn't be a rout. :ylsuper: My exact thought...I didn't say Mayfield would beat Lone Oak, just that there wasn't much difference in the 2...Couldn't hv stated it better than you just did..
  13. hahahahahaha....hahhahaha...Glad you have seen them play so much to make that determination....Take off the blue tinted glasses and have someone close to you smack you in the face and bring you back to reality... If they struggled with CPA, trust me, they'll have more than there hands full with Mayfield...Matter of fact, if there were a 30 pt spread in a game with LCA, my money would be on the black and red...You really need to wonder how LCA would handle the pressure of a title game moreso than Mayfield, who has about 14 more games of experience than LCA does...
  14. Frankfort did not play LCA in a preseason scrimmage...LCA played Green Co and barely beat them 28-21, the same Green Co that got demolished last week by Lone Oak, and , imo, Mayfield is right there with Lone Oak...The CPA team out of Tn that LCA squeaked by is nowhere in the ballpark with Trousdale Co...As of right now Trousdale is 6-1 and ranked #1 in 2a and just got done beating last weeks #1 traditional power Friendship Christian 23-7, a team that was undefeated, averaging 47 a game and giving up under 3 a game, while CPA has a losing record and was manhandled by Ft Campbell and have also lost a couple of instate games to very average teams... Now, I'm in no way shape or form trying to say LCA isn't a great 1a team, but, in no way do I feel they're head and shoulders above Mayfield...Can't speak for Beechwood, Frankfort or Crittenden, other than comparing scores, because I haven't seen them play...I will say that, imo, Mayfield could very easily be considered a heavy favorite over LCA as well as the other way around, but, in reality, I don't think either is much better than the other and would probably make for a hell of a championship game...
  15. 3a is the weakest...After the Top 6-7 teams, there really isn't another team in all of 3a that actually deserves to be ranked...Guess, someone has to be there... In regard to PTilghmans record, I simply used Central as an example...NCC, Beechwood, Trinity..These teams could have been used as well...Someone states a team is imploding or just beat someone, then those same things could be said about these teams.. Never said there opponents were as good as Centrals, matter of fact, made a point to say it wasn't, but, if record matters as you say, then these others shouldn't be considered either...That's all I was saying...
  16. The holding calls were prevelent in the 1st half, as well, just most not being called..They were a little tired in the 2nd half and the holds became more obvious, but, it was also 95 degrees that night and both teams were pretty gassed in the 4th qtr...Plus, Mayfield scored 48 pts in 3 qtrs after being shutout in the 1st qtr...Not sure the holding calls on offense had alot to do with those 48 pts the Cardinals put on the board...There execution from the 2nd qtr on was near perfection and I don't think too many teams anywhere would have been able to stop them once they got rolling...I do think TC got up 21-0 early and made it look so easy that they thought it was gonna be a blowout, letup a little and then when Mayfield came firing back, TC couldn't turn the emotion back on and as Mayfield was building momentum, they kept pouring it on...Regardless, TC was a very, very good team and it wouldn't surprise me if they would beat Mayfield if they played again, but, they didn't when it counted and I'm not sure LCA, Beechwood or anyone else in 1a would handle them...My point was referencing someone criticising Mayfields schedule and just pointing out it may be better than it's given credit for. That's all...
  17. 5 - Henderson Co 3 - CAL 3 - Owensboro 1 - Male 1 - Oldham Co 1 - Scott Co 1 - Meade Co 1 - Harlan Co 1 - Rockcastle Co 1 - W.East TB - 37
  18. I"ll put it this way, Trousdale Co would likely beat every every 1a team in Ky by a bunch, with maybe an exception to LCA and if they didn't win against them it would be a dogfight..This past week they beat an undfeated and traditional power Friendship Christian team 23-7 that had been averaging 47 pts a game and only given up 15 all year...Graves Co is not a great 6a team, but, again, they would be no worse than a 5th or 6th best team in 1a... Pad Tilghman, as bad as there record is, I wonder how many 1a teams would beat the teams that beat them(Hopkinsville, Ft Campbell, Mayfield, Graves Co)Again, they would be a solid Top 8 team in 1a...Calloway Co is a yr removed from a Final 4 4A run and yes, they're down this year, but, would still be a Top 10 1a team, without a doubt...Yes, Marshall Co is winless, but, still a 6a team with alot of #s...They've been a very solid program just having a couple of bad yrs with a coaching change and some turmoil going on...Also, they played the #3 ranked 2a team out of Tn (Milan)in a scrimmage game that I would bet the farm would be ranked #1 in Ky 1A this year and possibly even 2a and 3a, they're that good...My point is, you are basing everything on the record that Mayfields opponents have and automatically assume they've played a weak schedule...And this year, the teams that are usually very tough teams are down like Tilghman, Marshall and Calloway, but, yr in and yr out, I'd put Mayfields schedule against any of the 1a teams and would fare pretty well...They also play Crittenden and Caldwell Co to end the season which will definately prepare them even more before the playoffs get here, so, don't worry about how prepared they'll be for a tough game, they've been there and done that and know what its all about when playoff time rolls around...
  19. Then let's take Central out too, they're 1-5, aren't they? How bout that?
  20. Excluding St X and Trinity, who's the next best teams in Louisville out of all the rest? Is it Butler, Central, Fern Creek, Male, Manual, Western, Desales, Ballard, others? I'd be interested in hearing how the rest of the Metro teams stack up to each other...
  21. St X 13 Trinity 7 at the half...Trinity missed a 35 yd FG with 6 secs to go in the half, but, X got called for running into the kicker, but, Trinity missed a 30 yarder on the 2nd attempt...
  22. St X - 13 Trinity - 7 1:04 left in 1st half
  23. ST X - 13 Trinity - 0 6:26 to go in 2nd qtr
