  1. Thats the thing, "They dont have the talent." Which I interpret it as not being good enough. There can be really good high school players but the actual "Cream of the Crop" (athletics wise) are Division 1 players. I mean you could make an excuse anyone is good enough. I just think in this context, good enough is if you are offered and accept a D1 scholarship.
  2. Good enough is good enough if someone is offered a Division 1 scholarship and accepts it. Tons of players can play NAIA or D2 or D3, but the truth of the matter is, I could care less about those schools or if they win or not. I bet most of the people on this board wouldn't know the d2 champion last year unless they looked it up.
  3. I don't like being the grammar police, but by the spelling I think you meant that is what Pike would be saying, (Pointing to Towles) "There! Starting QB"
  4. You left out playing time and that is why I am skeptical. Who knows, He might be really good but there is only one way to prove that he is worthy of the hype, and that is on the field.
  5. But commiting doesnt mean anything. Many players with offers never get faxed that letter of intent. A lot of time schools won't give them consent to verbally commit to them because they may be the second third or fourth option. Some players try to commit without the consent of the college's coaches, and you notice the player later in the recruiting process decommit because the school never gave them an actual commitable offer. On the surface it looks like they decided to go to another school, but in reality the school didn't want them. And an actual commitable offer means that the school will actually honor the scholarship to that player or at least send them the letter of intent (Sometimes they do not qualify for one reason or another Academics etc.) . Being offered by a school no longer means that they can actually accept the scholarship. If you want me to rephrase it ... Will Pike actually be sent the letter of intent?
  6. My question is, Does Pike have a commitable offer? Teams give out tons of offers but don't let players commit to them. Would Pike actually be able to commit to say UK or Purdue?
  7. Oh I thought we were talking about Canadian High School football.
  8. The coaches love spring practice because they can see where talent is and they can finish their off-season training better by getting more familiar with which positions players will play. Also, the players can do more live scrimmaging because if the players get hurt, they have a long time to heal their injuries.
  9. Furthermore, most people would think if the kicker can make it to the endzone then they might as well try a field goal. The best time to use this rule to your advantage is to angle the kick out of bound in your own territory against a good kick returner. I just believe it is much easier to angle it.
  10. This would be the worst rule... This rule would mean there is less football
  11. He could have done the same thing and sold the same amount of papers if the name of this 16 or 17 year old kid was not put in the article. The same story would have been reported.
  12. One thing that would be interesting would be to move soccer to the spring
  13. Thanks! From that point can the defensive team choose to have the ball where it was kicked?
  14. Two questions. Is it a touchback no matter what if the field goal is missed and goes into the endzone? What happens if it doesnt make it to the endzone?
  15. One other rule is force outs on recievers during passing plays. They changed this rule in the nfl in which a player jumps in the air and its either his feet are in or they are out. I know in high school in 2004 the rule was still that if the player was forced out, that it is a judgement call whether he would have landed in bounds or not. Please let me know if this rule has been changed on the high school level.
  16. I have a question... If the kicker attempts a 10 yard field goal (the ball is at the 3 yard line)... on a miss, would the opposing team still get the ball at the 20?
  17. Haha I can not agree with that anymore. This is the scrimmage kicks off the race for 20. I am definately looking forward to it, but I would also prefer to see a regular season match-up.
  18. Spring practice is essential to the quality of High School football in the state of Kentucky. It is just and advantage that we have when playing against other states. Also as you had mentioned, it offers an opportunity for players to get scouted. It is just another chance for players to get looks for colleges. At Highlands I participated in spring football and ran track. I believe the baseball players were the only ones that did not fully participate if I remember correctly.
  19. The way i see it because this is a scrimmage and not a game, the only way that the better team is going to be determined in this game is if it is very obvious. I just forsee a lot of post scrimmage debate and if the game is close I don't think the winner should hang their hat as themselves as a better team because they won a scrimmage.
  20. I agree with the touchback rule. But to spice it up, How about allowing touchdown dances?! haha I am kidding
  21. This is a case by case basis. I would personally rather walk on because most people do not care about small college football whether it is d2 d3 or NAIA. I would much rather play for a team that people care about. On the other hand most of the walk-ons will redshirt and if they stick it out all the way through then they will have played on a team for 5 years and possibly never play.
  22. I think it is impressive that Highlands plays up 2 classes and others would agree. Imagine if Highlands were in their designated class. Many other states determine whether or not they get in the playoffs. The other states get points depending on the class that the team they play is in. By definition the MOST difficult schedule can only go to 1 team. For the country, it is Cincy St. X. For the state maybe Manual, but Highlands schedule is always up in the top 10 in the state. My senior year we played Elder (defending champ), Boyle (defending champ), Danville (defending champ).
  23. The point I am making is that just because you don't have one of the 3 toughest schedules in the state for 1 year, doesnt mean you have a weak schedule. Highlands beating Cincy St. X was enormous. Highlands is a public school with roughly 800 students half boys. That means Highlands has about 400 boys. Cincy St. X had 1,550 males last year. Not to mention that X is a private school. Anyways a lot of schools will not play Highlands. Year in year out on average Highlands typically has one of the toughest schedules in the state. There are many years Highlands could play a much easier schedule go undefeated and win the state championship, but Highlands chooses to play a big Cincinnati school almost every year. Don't forget that Highlands plays 2 classes up and has won every 5A state championship.
