  1. Againt what is the point of your arguement? If it is strength of schedule then yes Manual had a tougher schedule. If it is who was a better team, it was Highlands.
  2. And they went 5- 7 including playoffs...? Having a good schedule doesn't mean you are a good team. Also if you win a lot of games against weak teams doesnt mean you are a good team. I just wonder why you question a team that plays up 2 classes and has won every state championship playing up 2 classes.
  3. In the case of Maunal... It's hard for Highlands to play themselves haha
  4. This is a dumb Strength of Schedule arguement but you can argue all day about other schools strength of schedule. That would be like me asking, why doesnt Manual play a schedule like Cincinnati St. Xavier. Then saying, now thats a tough schedule.
  5. Highlands doesnt prepare for scrimmages like they do regular season games. The game prep is done a couple of days before the scriammge and the opposing team is not scouted out very well. As a former player I can tell you that a lot of times Highlands wins because of coaching. The way Highlands approaches scrimmages is to prepare them for the regular season and playoffs, whether it is trying players out at new positions or running scripted plays to simply practice them. Scrimmages are not always a great indicator to tell how well the teams would play in a regular season game. Each coaching staff has a different approach to scrimmages. I think this is a great idea for these teams to scrimmage eachother, but I wouldn't put a whole lot into who wins the scrimmage.
  6. I am really the only person to know certain details about the reason for Mitchell to transfer and they are private. There are many people from both sides that either assume things or simply make up things and present them as fact. The fact of the matter is that Mitchell was deemed eligible and Highlands was penalized for playing an ineligible player even though he was eligible
  7. I disagree with the point that you make that this discussion has gotten nowhere. My main point of posting on this board is to get the facts out. There were a large number of times where people did not know Mitchell eventually became eligible. That is the main point of the whole letter to begin with which is to ask for the wins back. And the reason they were taken away was for an ineligible player that ended up being eligible, according to the court which are above the KHSAA etc. etc.
  8. HAHA that last part of your post has to be one of the best I have seen. For those that have followed this thread for a while, I don't care what side of the debate you are on.. thats funny
  9. We are obviously disagree until the end of this. I just don't like when people make false accusations about Mike Mitchell, the Mitchell family, or Highlands High School. I only have about 52 posts on this site, I usually just read about recaps on games, upcoming stars, etc. And 50 of my posts have been on this thread. This subject I am very passionate about because I was on the team and Mike is one of my friends. I do not have a problem with people being suspicious, thats fine do that all you want it's not going to change anything. I just encourage people on this message board to post things that are correct and not things that they assume to be true. I think the main thing people don't know is that Mitchell ended up being eligible. That's a fact that is not debateable.
  10. The use of the word technically should not be used. The way to word the sentence is ... While they did nothing wrong, people are allowed to question how ethical it was. And Mike did not expliot the system, he refined it. Now players that transfer that are given a temporary injunction are allowed to play because of the Mike Mitchell case. The system has changed and he would have been eligible by the refined rules also.
  11. Also, I understand your argument that Highlands would have been holding themselves to a higher standard than other programs in the state. So to that, let me ask this: isn't a program of excellence based around holding yourself and your program to a higher standard? Some schools have higher academic standards than others. They also have higher academic standards for athletic elegibility "while no one else in the state was required to follow their interpretation". Covington Latin School comes to mind here. Now, based on their students' ages and rigorous academic requirements, CLS has historically obviously lacked in the athletic department. However, I see nothing but praise going their way for the achievements of their school and their students. It seems like you wanted the worst for Mike Mitchell. First you say that even if he transferred to Highlands he should not be able to play therefore wreck his future. Second you want him to stay at Cov. Cath. where he was unhappy and I can tell you first hand there were numerous things that he was unhappy about at Cov Cath (I will not go into what they are because I do not want to give out information that might reflect bad on people or institutions). Third he has achieved his goal of making it to the NFL. Unethical is to try to hinder a kids future, and there would be a great chance to eliminate some of Mikes possibilities if he wasn't able to play for Highlands. Unethical is Brigid Devries declining the reccomendation by KHSAA investigating officer to have Mike eligible from the begininning. Unethical is claiming that Mike did not transfer ethically when you don't know many of the facts and reasons. The reason the people are looking poorly on Highlands is because they do not know the FACTS of the case. If you look through this thread there were many people that do not know that Mike ended up being eligible.
  12. The Mike Mitchell Case in chronological order: 1. Mike transferred 2. Mike appealed to become eligible to play his senior year because when someone transfers they are automatically deemed ineligible. 3. Mike was set up with an independent party (KHSAA investigating office) to recommend to the KHSAA whether he could play or not 4. The KHSAA investigating officer recommended that Mike should be eligible 5. The reccomendation was overturned by either the Board of Controls or the Brigid Devries 6. Mike became ineligible for the 2004 football season 7. The Mitchell family went to the circuit court and got a temporary injunction 8. Highlands let him play because they agreed that if the courts say he can play then he is eligible. 9. The KHSAA appealed the temporary injunction that allowed Mitchell to play. 10. The Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the KHSAA the week of the state championship game. 11. Highlands won the State Championship and Mike did not play in the game. 12. The KHSAA stripped Highlands of 12 wins, fined Highlands $1500, and suspended Coach Dale Mueller for 2 games. Highlands was allowed to keep the championship. 13. The Mitchell family continued to fight the case in the Circuit court after the football season. 14. Mike was determined eligible by the circuit court. 15. The KHSAA appealed the decision, but was dismissed because the court determined it was a moot point because Mike had already graduated. 16. In the end Mike was eligible the whole season by the courts which are above the KHSAA. 17. The KHSAA does not want to give Highlands their 12 wins back, the $1500 fine, and is not able to give back the 2 game suspension of Coach Dale Mueller 18. The Fort Thomas Board of Education sent a letter to the Kentucky Board of Education to ask them to direct the KHSAA to rescind the sanctions. The KHSAA is an agency of the state of Kentucky. The Kentucky Board of Education which is governed by the General Assembly has the right to approve or disapprove rules and regulations set forth by the KHSAA. The KHSAA must abide by the state constitution see http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/KRS/013B00/140.PDF . 19. Present time. Other important points: A. It has been said that the KHSAA has spent over $250,000 on this particular case even though the origonal KHSAA investigating officer said that Mitchell should be eligible (not a fact just a statement made by a reliable source). The KHSAA used to pay an hourly rate and within the past year have hired an inhouse council for litigation matters. B. Since the end of the Mitchell Case the KHSAA now allows students to be able to play under a temporary injunction. (Please let me know if absolutly anything is wrong about this timeline or the other important points section) The reasons Highlands wants the sanctions back: a. Mitchell was eligible by the Cicuit court in the final ruling b. The KHSAA is not above the courts. c. $1500 fine to Highlands. d. The KHSAA suspended Coach Dale Mueller for 2 games. e. 12 wins on the field of play. (see below) According to http://texashsfootball.com/board/ind...showtopic=4549 , if you add up last years wins, this is how the all time record looks if the 12 wins were not added: This is through 2008 so I added the 2009 wins to get the total. 1. Valdosta, Ga-----(5-5)-------843--- + 7 = 850 2. Louisville Male, Ky-(9-5)---790--- + 10= 800 3. Massillon, Oh-------(6-5)----786--- + 10 = 796 4. Highlands, Ky--(14-1)-------772--- + 15 = 787 5. Mt Carmel, Pa---(13-1)-----774--- + 7 = 781 This is what it looks like if the 12 legally deserved wins are added: 1. Valdosta, Ga-----(5-5)-------843--- + 7 = 850 2. Louisville Male, Ky-(9-5)---790--- + 10= 800 3. Highlands, Ky--(14-1)-------784--- + 15 = 799 4. Massillon, Oh-------(6-5)----786--- + 10 = 796 5. Mt Carmel, Pa---(13-1)-----774--- + 7 =781
  13. Read this article everyone please. This is what started this whole debate. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/2010/02/10/highlands-challenging-mitchell-ruling/ . And I do not have the exact date on when it happened but the Ft. Thomas board of education would not have written this letter if Mitchell was deemed ineligible.
  14. The main reason is that the KHSAA is not above the judicial system of the United States of America. Another reason is I played on the team and I want the wins back.
  15. The Circuit court held a trial and ultimatly found in favor of the Mitchells. The KHSAA did appeal the circuit courts permanant injunction but by the time the COA got to the KHSAA's appeal, the case was dismissed because Mitchell had graduated and the appeal was determined moot. So the Mitchells won the case.
  16. Get your FACTS straight before you join this conversation.
  17. I will let LN take care of this one, but I know that Mitchell was deemed eligilble.
