You do realize what Holmes returns and that Beechwood loses arguably their best senior class ever, right? Covcath will also be improved with Thelen, Maschinot, and Connelly all getting valuable minutes at the end of last season.

I think the starting 5 was: Schloemer Beal Wimzie Moeves Simpson I'm not too familiar with all of the players that were on that team though, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Is it safe to assume that Holmes was the best program the past 5 years of the decade? Dicky Beal (former Holmes great) made a very good point in the KY Enquirer: "This group went to three Final Fours in a row and two championship games and not many schools can say that." They've also won region 4 of the past 5 years which is very rare in the 9th considering how tough the teams are.

I have no dog in this fight, but I have to respectfully disagree with you. Mason Co was no where near the threat to win the state title as GRC would have been with a healthy Purvis. Let's not forget that before the Purvis injury many had GRC as high as #2 or #3 in the state. I said it earlier in this thread and I'll say it again....you add Purvis to this years' GRC team and IMO we would have been talking about an Elliott Co-GRC match up in the second round rather than an Elliott Co-Shelby Valley match up. GRC would have been a tough match up for Holmes as well and IMO could have even possibly knocked them off. I think a few of the MC fans will realize this next year when the Cards are 100% and healthy. Taking away Purvis from GRC would be like taking away JJ from Holmes or even Phares from SC...we all seen how that worked out for SC.

Who is the 6'7 boy from the freshman team? Is that the younger cousin of Yancy Gates that I've heard about? I've heard he isn't very good offensively but could be a help at the defensive end because of his size and bulk. I also seem to remember them having a 6'2 freshman at the beginning of the year....Zion? Zylon? I believe it's the Herndon boy's younger brother?

I agree....Riley's 3 point shooting and the combination of Dom and Housely's defense will be missed, but the same thing was said after last year as well when they lost 7 seniors from a state runner up team and the year before when they lost their heralded 07 class with Rice, Jefferson, and Hill who led them to the state semi's. I've followed Holmes the past three years during their state runs and had my doubts about them, but after this past year, I just can't doubt them anymore after the way the big 3 led them to the state title.

Doesn't Elijah have a 7 ft wingspan as well? If he gets to be 6'9, he'll be a load. Kevon as well, if he can add another inch or two. Both need to hit the weights hard, especially Rice. Elijah looks as if he put on a lot of weight and strength since last year though, so hopefully these next 8 months in the weightroom and more time to grow will help him fill out his frame more. He definetly has room for it. Elijah reminds me a lot of Justin Doellman from Ryle several years ago, only with more overall talent and athleticism.

Is Martin another Ryan Williams type player? I really liked what I saw out of him in the region tournament at BOKC. Very quick young man with a great work ethic that could guard pretty much anyone on the floor out on the perimeter.

I've heard that Mississippi St is close to offering Ricardo as well...can any of the Holmes faithful verify this?

While nky has some fierce rivalries, once those teams get to state there is a special bond between all of the communities up here. It's great how all of the people join as one to support these young men. Everyone backed Highlands, Newcath, Beechwood, and SK in their attempts for football state titles and fans from those same schools backed this Holmes team during their state championship run. Kudos to all those in nky for putting aside the rivalries to join as one and support the KIDS. :thumb:

I agree. Having solid guard play will take you far in HS basketball. Just look at Elliott Co this year. Perfect example. Is Hatfield projected to get any bigger? Seems like he's been in the 6'6 range since his freshman year?

Will Brewer be the starting pg next year? GRC will indeed be very big. I like their chances of winning state when those boys are seniors. I'd very surprised if they didn't with that current sophomore class.

I agree. With Coach Hicks though, you can never count them out, especially with the 3 players that they return. I know their Jv team was pretty solid too (inconsistent though) and had some talent. Not sure how many losses Holmes JV team had (maybe 4?) but I know one of them came to Conner.

I've heard the same things. One or two years of JC ball would be good for him though IMO. Seems like it worked out pretty will for Rice and Hill.
