I am not sure why the KABC's POY and COY gets the credit by the KHSAA and in the state tournament program. So many of these coaches that vote do not even know anything about a lot of the coaches and players they are voting for. As an example: It makes no sense to think that coaches from the 16th region could make an accurate assesment of players and coaches in the 1st region. They would rarely see any of these team because of the distance between the schools. It makes much more sense to recognize the players and coaches selected by the region coaches. These are the people that scout them, prepare for them and play against them every week of the season.

Shelby was so much better that it was 3-3 after 5 innings. Why say such a ridiculous statement? Or was it not 3-3 as reported on here?

Please don't think that I am saying anything negative about Luke Maile. He is a terrific player, but no way does the 9th region stack up against the 11th region from top to bottom. In that same 6 year time period you are referring to the 11th region has dominated. 2003 - State Champs 2004 - State Runner-up 2005 - State Champs 2006 - State Champs 2007 - State Champs 2008 - State Final Four

Luke Maile is a terrific player and is a top candidate for Mr. Baseball. That being said it is ridiculous to think that if he played in the 11 region or the 7th region for that matter that his numbers would not be lower. I do object to the use of the word "good" in his description but he would be one of several "great" players that play in those regions. Those regions produce many D1 players every year.

Not sure that I agree with the simple assessment of just get out there and play aggressive defense and force turnovers. That is not the only way to play good defense. If a team can contain the ball and keep the offense out of the lane and force contested shots that is good defense. That same team might be a step or two slower than the other team and although they play good defense they cannot generate turnovers and are at the mercy of the patience of the other team. I don't think a team should be rewarded because they have quicker players. That being said I would say that the liklihood of every high school team in the state of Kentucky getting a shot clock in their gym is not very good so I doubt this will ever come about.

I heard that this decision was actually made sometime during midseason, after a meeting with parents, unbeknown to Coach Kelley. It's a shame when radical parents control the decisions of administrators. I wish all the best to Coach Kelley.
