  1. Marty Mornhinweg never coached the Browns. His only two years as a head coach ever was in Detroit, 2001-2002 where he went 5-27. That would be the record of anyone who coaches the Lions. I am not saying that to bash the Lions, that is just where that franchise is right now. I can see them getting better in the near future with the talent they have in place. It really does not matter who plays or who coaches the Bengals. They will never win a playoff game as long as Mike Brown is running the show. Incidentally, there are a lot of NFL players who are quoted as saying, "If I had the choice of signing with the Bengals or retiring, I choose retiring." This is a direct reflection of how a Mike Brown-owned and runned team is perceived around the league. "Two things why do you want Marty? How did he do as a head coach? I really can't remember. Also Newton is having a great year, however lets not forget he plays in a spread system and not use to being under center. Also this is his first year as a starter in college football. Remember the last QB we took who had one year of success in college football, and how that turned out? That would be Akili Smith. Newton could be a good one, however we have seen that horrid story before."
  2. You know the quote, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." That apple, Mike Brown, fell from a different universe. Mike Brown does not know football well enough to coach it.

  4. I do not know the whole story as to why Moss transferred to Boone, but I have to believe that part of it is "it's all about the ring." If memory serves me correctly, Ryle lost in the first round of the region last year and Boone won the region. Sydney may have observed this and figured she might have a better chance to go down state with Boone than with Ryle. Again, I do not know, that's just my speculation.
  5. Just found it...should have known it was NewCath...8 point loss at home.
  6. I listened to the game on the radio with my wife and I am extremely impressed with Newport's performance yesterday. When NHS was up 30-13 at the half, I told my wife that the Wildcats could not afford to let Holmes back into the game with a huge run. We were at the semifinals the night before and Holmes went up 17-3, Boone trimmed it to 20-16 and then the Rebels let Holmes build a big lead again. The key to beating teams that are that athletic and talented is not letting big runs beat you. Newport did not let their foot off the gas pedal and kept pouring it on and with no huge runs, Holmes went into panic mode. Congratulations to the Wildcats, good luck at state!! On another note, without looking at Newport's schedule can someone tell me what their fifth loss was? 2 losses to Holmes 25 point loss to NCC in the District Title game (looks like I picked the wrong Newport team to win the region, by the way) loss in the All "A" state 5th loss anyone - ?
  7. I would have to look up the actual definition of a block to be sure, but when I was a spotter for UC mens' and womens' games, I was told that a block is only recorded if the ball actually leaves the shooter's hand, otherwise it is just a deflection (not a recorded stat) or if the "deflector" gets the ball it would be a steal. Not sure if CovCath's stat people are using that definition or not which would be the reason you would think it was a low number. I am not saying anyone's way of keeping stats is right or wrong, but that is how I was instructed.
  8. Does anyone know if these games will be on radio or internet radio? Thank you.
  9. I might be misreading what you are saying here and I am not sure about seeding rules for girls' districts, but in the 35th boys, our teams only play each other once.
  10. I should not have thought one dimensionally in that previous post. Let me re-state. The above scenario applies to Division I FBS schools. Division I FCS schools and lower divisions may play 15 games, but that is if they go deep in the playoffs.
  11. The majority of College football teams generally play 13 games if they play in a bowl, unless you are in a conference championship game, play a regular season game at Hawaii or you are U of Hawaii, then they play 14 (possibly 15, but rare).
  12. And, HC did not score their first points until (from memory here) 3:52 left in the 1st on 2 FTs by Burger, I believe.
  13. Having been involved with the Indians program for the last four years, I can honestly say last night was the most disappointing loss for me. I am extremely proud of the way our young men competed last night. At first, when we were down 20-10 at the half, I had a "here we go again" moment, but looking at the stat sheet, we only had 3 turnovers and went 3-19 from the field. If we hit shots in the second half, we had a chance and we did hit some shots. Someone at the scorer's table made a comment to me pointing to the stat sheet, "That has to be the worst your team shot all year (26%)," which is not true. Off the top of my head, I believe we shot 8-44 against Bryan Station in the Lloyd Tournament. Our team struggled from the field all year (37%). Yes, we only had one senior this year and Marcus (Lea) can be proud that he was the only one from his class to stick with it all four years. The young guys have to make a commitment to come back a year better not just a year older for the program to get better in the coming years. As I said, I am extremely proud of this group and would not trade them for anything. Good luck to the Colonels on Friday and in the 9th Region Tournament, it should be a good one.
  14. I hope I am allowed to post this since it is not basketball related. Anyone from Casey County, specifically Clementsville? My mother's ancestors are from that town and that area, specifically the Ward and Clements families.
  15. 35th is at CovCath. Wednesday night semifinals: 6pm - CovCath vs Holy Cross 8:15pm - Holmes vs Beechwood
  16. HC was 15/43 FG, 3/16 3FG and 11/19 FT St H was 17/43 FG including 12/18 in 2nd half, 2/11 3FG, and 14/20 FT including 13/18 2nd half. Turnovers have killed HC, but more so the last two games which were both winnable games. 17 TOs Saturday at Conner and 17 tonight at St Henry with 11 in the 2nd half. Rebounding edge with St Henry 31-30 led by Thorburn with 11.
  17. Holy Cross finishes regular season 8-17...1-8 at home, 5-6 road, 2-3 neutral.
