How was Boyd's spring practice?

I think everyone at GC is excited about the transformation that is happening. The new equipment, new uniforms, bleachers, lights, fieldhouse, and repaired field are a testament to the BOE and administrations' commitment to move forward in supporting the Future of GC Football. We have a very large committed group of parent boosters. (more showing up for meetings than ever before.) Coach Copley spoke at our booster meeting Tuesday night of the great improvements the boys made over their ten days of spring practice. His commitment to excelllence and his work on the basics was something Greenup really needed. Thanks sidelinedoc for your support of GC (except for when we face the Rams, of course!!!!) It looks to be an exciting future, regardless of the win loss column this year, GC will be a much improved team.

The boys were scrimmaging hard yesterday. The new camera is in use so Coach can review practices. Thanks to the Touchdown club for taking care of this request so quickly! There were 22 boys at practice yesterday. Kitchen has not attended for a week and a half. He was at school yesterday but did not come to practice. Congratulations to the boys who have stuck it out! These gentlemen are the "heart and soul" of our team. Today is the last day of spring practice and they have really worked hard. 143 days!

Bench, I knew you would have the answer!!!!! I am going to make a calendar so I can cross off each day as we count it down. I know the clock in the field house is already set and counting down the days, hours and minutes until kickoff against Ashland!!!!

It is so good to see the Board putting money into the football program. The boys will have new equipment, new field house, new stadium, new lights... HOW MANY DAYS NOW????? I cannot wait!!!!

Don't forget we have a booster meeting Tuesday night at the highschool, in the cafeteria, at 6 pm.

I agree, what are we going to do between the end of spring practice and July 15????? ( I know the boys will be lifting but it is much more exciting to see them hitting!!)

They were really excited about scrimmaging. They were also fitted for new helmuts and shoulder pads this week. They are ordering 25 new helmuts and 50 sets of shoulder pads. The boys are looking forward to having this new equipment.

Mom55, I don't think anyone is trying to take away from the previous players or their accomplishments. I agree with you that, once a Musketeer, always a musketeer. I also know that everyone involved in the program respects and acknowledges all your contributions, from senior flags, to putting out the Football Program. You have been a dedicated and faithful Football booster. I think the boys really expressed this feeling toward your family at the Football Banquet. That being said, the previous administration and BOE, has not really invested in the program. They really did not want to give Football any money. These things are changing, and the general excitement created by having a new coaching staff is bringing out more and more boosters. I also believe that the combination of the middle school teams will go along way to getting the parents and boys working together at an earlier stage and help create a true "one for all and all for one" attitude. Thanks again for all your hard work. I know you will be making flags for this years' seniors and that they are looking forward to seeing them and will treasure them for a lifetime.

How many of the teams having the week off, have a fall break at the same time? I know Greenup has fall break but not sure about Ashland. Are these two things related?

Thanks, sidelinedoc, I was probably being defensive. Everything is going smoothly at Greenup right now. Boosters, parents, JFL Coaches, all working together as they haven't really done in the past. It no longer feels as if we are divided by which end of the county we are from. We are all Greenup County!!!! I want to make sure that boat doesn't get "rocked." Coach J, you are right about doing the little things. When Coach Copley met and spoke with the Boosters he discussed this very thing. Things like, having the boys take off their cleats before entering the FieldHouse, wearing only school colors to lift or practice, even asking an assistant to pick up some trash on the practice field. He told us building on these little things, will help the team have pride in itself, in their "House", and truly impact the big picture down the road. Thanks for the role you played in making our Coach one of the best!

Don't see any controversy at all, everyone is very excited about the new equipment. It was very much needed. I think most Greenup folks realize how fortunate we are to have an excellent coaching staff in place. Practices are run much more proffessionally and Coach Copley and his staff are building a team of well prepared young men. I will be saddened when Spring practice ends and probably have withdrawals until July!!!!

Raceland is fortunate to have a group of committed boys and coaches who really want to work. They have seen this "investment" pay off in the past, which helps build confidence and commitment to the process. I believe we are just beginning to build that at Greenup. (but as they say, "If you build it they will come!")

All I know is that it needs to be completed by mid April in order for the grass seed to grow and take hold properly before the first game in September. Hopefully we will see some bids at the next Touchdown club meeting.

I know there were two legit illnesses (Lyle and Hensley) but many have quit because they do not want to work that hard. As I have said before, a small committed team, giving 100% is better than a team full of slackers. I think they still have about 30 committed players and possible at least that many freshman coming out, so the team should be around 60 players. This is up about 10 from where we finished last year. I agree about Copley speaking up and asking the Board for the needed equipment. This is wonderful!!

This is great news. We really needed the new equipment. There has been quite a few other injuries, though not as serious as the ones you mentioned, due to inferior equipment. Paying back the money from gate revenue will be difficult with only 5 home games, and the teams coming (for the most part) do not bring a large fan base on the road. You are right abut Football supporting other sports, with this debt to pay, there will be less "profit sharing" for other sports.
