  1. Good player, great runner.....he'll fit in well with their style. Congrats!
  2. Are you saying Liggett doesn't have enough cup holders? If so, then I agree.
  3. Kid can flat out play....he develops his bat some, and he's going to tear it up down there. Congrats to him!
  4. I very much agree with this - I was just trying to look at it from the standpoint that the student athlete wasn't penalized.
  5. Two things here: One, it was rumored that Hammond forbid his players from playing outside the framework of their summer ball team, which was supposed to be comprised of Henry Clay players. With the recent proliferation of many different Central Kentucky travel ball programs, this mandate somewhat limited his high school players from playing for these teams which would give them outstanding college and professional exposure. From what I understand, this has become a big point of contention at HC, especially with guys like Will Hurt who played for the Kentucky Baseball Club last year, where he began to gain notoriety already, still as a freshman. Two: Lexington Catholic's head coach is a big part of the Kentucky baseball club program, and surely there were conversations between he and the Hurts regarding the prohibitive situation of summer ball and subsequent exposure. It would be a long shot to say that Hurt simply decided on a whim to transfer to Lex Cath - there were almost certainly discussions about this move conducted behind closed doors which could be construed as "recruiting." It feels as though neither parties in this situation are totally free and clear of guilt. The fact of the matter, though, is that if Hammond had allowed his players to do whatever they wish for summer ball, then this whole situation could have been avoided. When it all comes down to it, baseball should be about the kids and they should be free to do whatever they want outside of the high school season so that they can gain the best chances to play after college if that's what they desire. I'm sorry to hear about Coach Hammond's dismissal, as I've heard nothing but great things about him, but I'm also glad that the player in the situation will not be penalized for transferring because after all, it's about the kids, not the adults as we sometimes forget.
  6. It's such a shame....he's a very good coach.
  7. Those CPOA sheets always have some embellished information on them. Not saying he's not a good catcher, nor am I saying that he doesn't throw a 1.87, it's just that many times height, weight and raw stats are not always exactly truthful on those recruiting sheets,.
  8. D1 schools frown upon opposite field approach? That's the most incorrect thing you could possibly post. Professional and college coaches love to see kids who are comfortable using all parts of the field, and are not in any way, shape or form, EVER looking for someone who simply pulls the ball. (in reference to BM's claims) As for Liggett's pop times, he was clocked at 1.94 in a showcase this fall, and threw several 1.99s in a scrimmage later that day.
  9. It doesn't seem like something I would have to spell out to you. "I know D1 talent when I see it" is a pretty presumptive comment that carries a lot of arrogance with it. Most of us here have seen a lot of baseball, and have fun making conjecture about the young men's talents that we have witnessed first hand. Sometimes we're right, and sometimes we're wrong. You, however, seem to have figured out exactly what D1 schools want. Maybe you should be a recruiting coordinator.
  10. Riddle will most likely have his UK role in limbo until he gets there. He's got the bat and the savvy as a fielder to be an SEC type position player. All he needs is to gain strength. From the way the UK staff has been recruiting lately, JT's pitching is probably a little on the short side for the Wildcats purely from a sustained velocity and polish standpoint. That being said, he's still not even close to reaching his potential on the mound or as a position player/hitter. He could wind up being successful at either spot - or who knows, maybe even both.
  11. Anyone can make a case about pretty much any arguable topic. I, however, couldn't make a case for either of those young men as I have neither heard of them, nor have I seen them play.
  12. Dude's got a hose for an arm. Congrats to him!
  13. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Sam Liggett as a possible POY candidate. Highlands won't be very good but Liggett should be in the running.
  14. I don't feel like Lex Cath can make a run like they did last year, but I will be the first to admit that after seeing them play in early 2009, I felt the same way. They got hot at the right time, had a stroke of good draws in the Semi, and believed that they could get the job done. The 11th Region always seems to render that type of team to the state tournament because they have such fierce competition within the region (and 43rd district for that matter). Once the team emerges from there, they have the confidence that nobody can beat them. So, while I think it's a shame that the districts in Lexington beat up on eachother and only one makes it out, it benefits the winner psychologically because they feel as though the toughest road has already been traveled. Just a thought of course....
  15. I agree, they haven't blown it per se, but have definitely had teams that were favored to win. I don't believe anyone around here thought Lexington Catholic was the favorite over Tates Creek in 2009. They always seem to have talent to go all the way, and definitely haven't gotten it done.
  16. Tates Creek has to be the favorite, despite their track record for blowing it in the districts. Deepest pitching staff in the area.
