This really wasn't this close. Oldham had an 8-5 lead in the first when North went on a 24-1 run that ended all speculation. A game that had built up a lot of pre-game talk during the days leading up to it turned out to be an unexpected rout in quick order. It was 38-14 at the half, and 59-22 at the end of three, with a running clock. To Oldham's credit, the Colonels scored a whopping 28 points in the fourth - with a running clock working against them. Max Green at one point hit six consecutive threes. But by then, there was no real question about who was going to win the game. North gets revenge for last year's district 29 finals, won by the Colonels. Dallas Roberts, Ian Higdon, and Jack Fischer all with 15 to lead North. Incredibly, star center Luke Anderson picked up two quick fouls and sat nearly all of the first half. He came back to score 8 points in the second half. Jack Scales came off the bench for North, and played extensive minutes. He seems physically close to 100%, but struggled a bit with his shooting eye as he shakes off the rust from the 10-game layoff. North has now won 13 in a row and 17 of 18. North shot over 50% from the floor and absolutely dominated the glass - at the half, the rebounding count was 18-8 in favor of NOHS. This was a reversal of the regular season game, when Oldham shot >50% and North didn't shoot quite as well, and Oldham actually won the rebounding battle. This time, the Mustangs made it clear early that the previous game - even though the Mustangs won that game by 10 in OT - was the aberration. Max Green for Oldham County was spectacular in defeat, leading all scorers with 32 - but he scored 23 of those points in the final frame, when it was largely immaterial. At one point in the fourth, he made 6 consecutive three pointers... Luke Amburgey started and played extensive minutes for Oldham, though it appeared that his injured leg took a sharp blow at one time and he came out of the game for a while, apparently to stretch it out in the hallway at the end of the bench.

We all say it all the time - in HS sports, ANYTHING can happen. They're HS kids. And yet - not a one of us (except for the Gallatin County faithful, perhaps) really saw this one coming. KUDOS to Coach Sullivan and his squad! What a tremendous upset! This is WHY WE PLAY THE GAME and don't just dole out the awards to the teams with the best RPI..... This also creates an amazing situation in the region tournament.... Congratulations Mr. District Champ.....would you like the 17th-ranked team in the state (Collins), the 18th-ranked team in the state (Grant), or perhaps you would prefer 24-win Owen County???? LOL....this is going to be an AMAZING Region 8 tourney.

North is absolutely dominant tonight. Oldham had an 8-5 lead, and North went on a 24-1 run to take control. Anderson sat nearly all of the first half with 2 fouls for North, but it hasn't mattered. North leads on the glass, 18-8 at the break. Mustangs hitting 50% from the floor.

No update as of Friday morning. His role in tonight's game is still undetermined, though I understand he did practice some this week. Unsure if his practice was limited in any way, though. This looks like a game-time decision, from what I'm hearing.

Not sure yet....will know tonight. But - It really doesn't matter for North; Fischer has been a frequent starter - and is more than talented enough to be the starter. A 3-guard starting group of Dallas Roberts, Fischer, and Grant Neal is a potent trio - and then you bring a sharpshooter like Scales off the bench?? ? Wow....and don't forget, reserve guard Ryan Howard has flourished with all the extra minutes he got after Scales' injury, and led North in scoring in at least one game. North simply has an embarrassment of riches at the guard spot.

NORTH OLDHAM has achieved some key "firsts" since Mac McIntosh took over as head coach last year. Although NOHS opened in the 2003-4 season, the Lady Mustangs had never won a post-season tournament game or played in a region tournament. Last year's squad earned the #1 district seed, gaining a bye in the district tournament that propelled them to their first-ever Region 8 tournament berth. But they lost in both the district finals (to South Oldham) and in the Region 8 tournament first round. This year's squad set a new "first"; Tuesday's 51-47 win over Oldham County in the first round of the District 29 tournament was the school's first-ever post-season win (NOHS is now 1-20 in district tournament play, and 0-1 in the region). McIntosh is hoping his squad can now gain its first-ever district title, and then its first-ever Region tournament win. Impressively, North won Tuesday with both of its two leading scorers - Gracie Sipes and Liz Boyd, who both average over 13 ppg - combining for just 5 points. Katelyn Vize had a dominant game, recording a double-double, to lead the way. Katie Smith had 13 in the first half to spark the Lady Mustangs early, and from there, it was all Vize. Vize had an incredible game the last time North met South, scoring 29 points and grabbing 18 rebounds in a 4-point loss to the Dragons on 1/27/23. SOUTH OLDHAM, the top seed in the 29th, is no stranger to the district title game. "If you want to win the 29th, you have to go through Crestwood" has been the mantra in the district for basically the last 15 years. Gene Heffington's 2022-3 version of the Lady Dragons has a potent offense, and is particularly adept at getting out and running in transition. South is on a 6-game winning streak, which started on 1/27/23 against - North Oldham. Freshman sensation Maddie Young had 26 points to lead South to that win, and Ella Morrison added 16. One or the other has led South in each of those six games, with Morrison scoring in double digits in five of the six contests - including a 34 point monster outing at Carroll County on 2/10, when she hit 12 of 20 shots, including 3 of 7 beyond the arc. Morrison averages just under 20 points a game; Young checks in at 15.9 ppg / team-high 7.0 rebounds. The scary thing about South is their youth; there are four seniors on the team, but none start. Morrison is a junior; Young is a freshman. Morrison is a 4-year varsity starter with a year to go; Young saw substantial varsity minutes last year as an 8th grader. The rest of the starting five includes two juniors and an 8th grade point guard, Gracie Turner.

(South Oldham's victory in 2019 was the only season Oldham failed to win the title in the last dozen years.) Series: Oldham County leads the all-time series over North Oldham, 23-10. Most Recent Meeting: North Oldham defeated Oldham County, 75-65, in OT, on 1/20/23 in Goshen. Oldham shot 53% in the loss, led by Max Green's 28 points and Luke Amburgey's 18 points / 14 rebounds. North was led by Dallas Roberts and Grant Neal, each with 21 points. North shot 45%. The Mustangs won despite being outshot (53% to 45%) and outrebounded (30-22). District History: OC and NO have met in the 29th District Finals five times, with Oldham having a 4-1 advantage. Oldham beat North, 65-56, in last year's finals. Injury News: OLDHAM - The availability of Luke Amburgey, Oldham's #2 scorer and #2 rebounder (13.8 ppg / 7.2 rpg), is unknown as of this writing. He is being checked today after injuring his right leg against South Oldham in the district semi-finals last night. He did return to the game after the injury, and, while certainly hindered by the injury, played effectively at times, including hitting four big free throws in the fourth quarter. I'm guessing Amburgey will play unless the doctors think there is a chance of re-injury, in which case Josh Leslie may want to just give him some rest, knowing Oldham advances to New Castle, win or lose, on Friday. NORTH - Jack Scales missed 10 games with a right shoulder injury suffered against Seneca. The Mustangs' third-leading scorer (11.9 ppg) saw some spot action in the season-ending win over St. X - maybe playing 8-10 minutes(?) - but he gave North fans plenty to be encouraged about as he hit 2 three pointers en route to 6 points. Scales will undoubtedly play against Oldham, but may not reclaim his starting role this week. Hot Team: North Oldham is as hot as they come. The Mustangs have now won 12 in a row - 10 of those without the services of Scales. North has won 16 of their last 17, and those 16 wins included victories over #6 Lyon County (by 34), #11 North Laurel (by 14), #16 Mason County (by 14), #17 Collins (without Scales) by 12, and #18 Grant County (on the road, without Scales). North's lone loss over the last 17 games came to #2 LexCath on the road. Kudos to Christian Veirs of South. He practically put the Dragons on his back and did everything he could to will South to the upset win.

Marcum with (unofficially) 8 points and 18 rebounds. Great night for the 6'6" sophomore, who has largely held back and deferred to the older players this year. He had nearly half of Oldham's 40 rebounds. Oldham outrebounded South - unofficially - 40-17.

Julian Dixon of W-V is the notable missing player, IMO.

Quinton Simmons was out during the North game, but I heard - rumors - that they were just resting him to ensure he was ready for tournament time. Did he play against Shelby?
