"The sum of the parts exceeds the individuals." This very wise quotation really does describe this team perfectly. Make no mistake about it, the team includes some amazingly good individuals, but as a team they are even better. Great article.

There aren't a lot of Bath supporters on this list (I'm not either), but this team keeps rolling along with wins. According to the Herald-Leader, Metz had 33 and Maze had 15. They are an awesome duo, and Metz just seems to be getting stronger.

It's fun to see how teams can improve about the time district play begins in earnest. Tough games early in the year often pay out dividends later. Good job Raceland.

Final

This week Bath struggled against two teams with weaker records but eventually won. And they also soundly defeated Mongtomery Co. It may not be so hard to figure out. They weren't terribly pumped about home games against Rowan and Raceland (and probably weren't expecting really strong performances by Morrison of Rowan and Boyles of Raceland). But they did what winners do and found a way to win. By all accounts the Montgomery Co. game was a strange affair, but Bath played strong, even if the officiating could have been better. I'm not a Bath fan, but they have won my respect. Like a lot of high school teams, they perhaps need to be more consistent in their play, but they do one thing very consistently: WIN.

Great story. It just shows what hard work and determination can do.

Folks may not be surprised by the Bath win here, but this was a very entertaining and hard-fought game. The score was very close all the way through the game, but Bath got the win on a layup by Maze with six seconds to go. For Bath, Metz was hot and had 28 points. Maze had 14. On the Rowan side, Morrison played very well, with 23 points and 15 rebounds (all stats from the Herald-Leader). I see things tightening up a bit in the 61st. Rowan is clearly improving, and Bath and Menifee are playing well. And Fleming got a win last night. Menifee still has to be considered the favorite, though.

Coach Moore and his team deserve a lot of credit for a huge turn around in Menifee. They play very solid ball on both ends of the court.

Menifee is on a roll. I see them winning by 12.

I agree with all of the above, plus they play darn good defense. Even though Maze and Metz had good games, the Menifee defense really worked them hard in the fourth quarter. They also got an amazing number of rebounds against Bath's big bodies.

East wins by 5.

Thanks for posting this list. The tournament boasts some very strong teams. Congrats to these outstanding players.

Anderson started a little slow, but they soon dominated the Howell Central team. Penny had a quiet first half but finished with 17. I agree that it should be a good game between Montgomery and Anderson.

Way to go Menifee!

Brandon Rash is a very solid player. I'm impressed.

What does anyone know about Howell Central? They are apparently from St. Charles, Missouri (near St. Louis).

I see Fleming starting to fire on all cylinders and winning by 15.

I wonder if this game will even be played on Tuesday because of the weather. Right now, I would say Morgan County by nine.

This one was closer than I expected. Fleming must be improving.

I've seen both of these teams play, and I think that West Carter, despite its loss to Elliott, is very strong. I see West winning by 18.

West Carter is a very solid team and improving, so don't count them out entirely. I predict they'll do better than expected. Ultimately, I'm going with Elliott too, but only by 16 points.
