Hey, I agree entirely with what you say about Rowan County. They are still unproven. My comments earlier this week, however, were simply my attempt to claim that columnists shouldn't write Rowan off before the season even begins! Except for the Ashland Independent, no one even bothered to mention any Rowan players by name or ask the coach who might make a difference. For what is worth, I wish both Rowan and Fleming great seasons.

Menifee is for real this year, according to my sources who saw them play some summer ball.

No offense intended on my side either. I hope to see you at Rowan game later this year. You're right that the full roster does include a lot of younger players. Coach Thacker suits up a veritable army for his varsity squad. But check out the box score from the game. Only one freshman and one sophomore played last night. The rest were juniors and seniors. The two leading scorers were a senior and a junior. I can tell I'm not making much headway on this argument. All I can say is, come watch them play, and let's see who the leading scorers are by mid-January. You'll recognize me by the huge smile on my face.

Most of the previews take the easy way out. They focus on the new coach (who is fanstastic, btw) and assume that he will be using young talent. But these previews aren't based in any sort of fact. It seems disrespectful to ignore the juniors and seniors on the Rowan squad, as many of these previews have done.

I'm not sure where this myth of Rowan's "young" team originated. Obviously Wireman and others have not really done their homework on Rowan County. I'm not going to scout the team for anybody, but Coach Thacker started three seniors, one junior, and one freshman. I suggest that Wireman and others who want to know something about Rowan County should actually go watch them play.

I've seen Fleming play several times in the last couple of years, and I agree that they are improving. I'm not convinced that they can win the 16th just yet. I do wish them good luck.

I was wondering the same thing. The times are clearly messed up unless there are there two gyms in Lewis County. Anybody know?
