Just want to say congrats to our Bears on an impressive win in their first district game!!! The defense absolutely rocked last night. Also, props to all the fans who traveled 4 hours and paid $5 per gallon of gas to see the Bears play last night (we had a very impressive crowd in spite of those 2 factors). That's it; I can't hold my tongue (or fingers in this case) any longer. I have seen numerous references in different threads about how Cumberland especially and Evarts both had good teams last year and how Cawood did not. I went to every Cawood game last year. They had a talented bunch of young men on the team (and good boys to boot). This response to Leonidas' comment is in no way meant to put down Evarts or Cumberland, as I am beginning to know and love these boys just as I do the boys who are from Cawood. This is just to stick up for the former Cawood players a little bit. The "powers that be" last year decided to play one of the best running backs in the mountains at QB last year - that would be T.J. Green. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, who knew anything about anything from Cawood thought from the git-go that it was not a very bright thing to do. That's all I heard is how crazy it was to play him at QB. The first time and I mean very first time Green was played at running back, where his god-given talent lies, Cawood beat Cumberland. We were all excited to see what would happen that Friday. The fans couldn't wait and the kids were excited at school...the football players and the student body. I think Cawood's season would have been a whole other story last year for Cawood if Green had been allowed to do what he does best, and that is run the football. Like I said this is not to offend anyone; it's just to get this topic off my chest.

I think last year (if I'm remembering correctly) Fleming Co. came on Friday and stayed the night and then played on Saturday, adding to the expense of the trip.

I don't know if Alex Haywood (a sophomore) starts on varsity or not, but I think he sees a pretty good amount of playing time. I can't wait to see this game; should be a dandy. Go JV Bears! We're behind you all they way.:banana::banana::banana:

Here's a little info according to the 2008 Cats' Pause on Fleming Co. Their QB is a junior returning from last year, with a junior returning at offensive guard who is 6-1, 245 lbs and also one of the region's best punters. They have 4 seniors, and 1 junior tackle who is 6-2, 300 pounds, returning on defense. It says they have 7 starters back on BOTH offense and defense. Just FYI, Cawood beat Fleming Co. at Cawood last year, although it was a hard fought game. I think Fleming County's QB got sacked about 4 times in that game if memory serves. I know it's a whole new story this year, but kind of gives an idea... Me and my hubby bear will definitely be making the trip to Fleming Co. to cheer on the Black Bears of Harlan County.......GO BEARS!!!!:dancingpa

Game Day - It's FINALLY here black bear fans!!! I watched my "little" bear go out the door this morning in his white Black Bear jersey (looking darned good I might add) on the first day of school at the new Harlan County High School, on the first official game day, and now on my day off, I can't even go back to sleep I'm so excited. :dancingpa BRING IT ON COUGARS.....THE BEARS ARE READY FOR YA!!! :dancingpa

He got into a fight in the last game of last year against Estill Co., so no T.J. Greene at LCC this week, but we have enough other weapons to make up the difference. Go Bears all the way!!! The Bear Nation has total faith in you. I cannot wait until Friday night.
