Is Bopper an all round better player than his older brother?

 

That is an interesting question. While Bopper is a better ball mover and floor leader, Robbie was a pure shooter and rebounder.

Congratulations to the Cardinals on their win, and to the Camels on a great season. GRC came out to start the second half on a mission, while the Camels couldn't buy a basket. The Cardinals 3rd quarter lead was too much for the Camels to recover from. Good luck in the finals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My observations from this game last night include: Bopper Stenzel is the head of snake for GRC, without him on the floor, the Cards would be very average. He is a one man press breaker, he knows how to use his body to avoid the ever debatable charging call these days when getting to the rim, and he has improved his jumper. In my opinion, he has a better overall game than his brother Robbie did at GRC and I am sure that is debatable to a lot of folks from Winchester but remember just one persons opinion. I feel very comfortable in saying that he is more important to his team than Robbie was with the group that he played with. This is not a knock on Robbie, heck I can remember hearing comments that the class that graduated a year ago resembled a small college team. This years bunch without Bopper falls off a great deal. Charlie Rogers is a defensive stopper and gives fits to whoever he is guarding. Anytime he can give you 10 points in a game, thats a bonus. Fatkin should of been playing more minutes for last years GRC team and if so it would be scary to see how good he can be. Only thing I see that he needs to work on is that he walks every time he puts the ball on the floor in the paint as its followed with a hop, but still a nice player. Hard to believe the Howard kid was shooting hoops at the YMCA a year ago and now he has had two big regional games. Should be a very entertaining game in the finals tonight.

Clark earned its spot in the finale by outscoring the Camels 16-5 in the third quarter that turned a narrow 26-23 lead into a 42-28 advantage. The brief spurt, combined with a solid defensive effort that limited Campbell County to single digits in the middle two quarters, paved the way to Clark’s sixth consecutive victory.

 

“Charlie defensively played as good of a game as I have been around — to hold McGoveney to eight (points) and take him out of all of the places he likes to score, without us ever (double teaming) him one time, he just guarded McGoveney and our kids fed off of it,” Humphrey said.

Rogers said he just took his “piece of the puzzle.”

“That’s what I did,” he said. “I tried to play really hard, so it will help us make it back to state.”

 

Stenzel paced the Cards with 19 points as four of Clark’s five starters finished in double figures. Taylor Howard continued his impressive postseason showing with 16, followed by Adam Fatkin with 13 and Rogers with 10.

 

Clark and Mason will meet in the region finals for the fifth time in the past seven years. The Royals edged Clark in the last regional final between the two teams 62-60 three years ago at the Fieldhouse in Maysville. Clark defeated Mason 59-44 on Feb. 3 at Norton Gymnasium.

Prior to the season, Clark and Mason were given little chance by most observers to compete for the regional title, but one of the two teams will earn a trip to next week’s boys Sweet Sixteen at Rupp¿Arena.

“Part of me just kind of chuckles,” Humphrey said. “Everybody buried Clark and Mason to start the year and then here we are again.”

Congratulations to oldtimer and 10th Region Hall of Famer, Bill Lindsey, who made the last entry of his career into the Campbell County scorebook last night wrapping up a 30-some year stint as the Camels official scorer.

 

Bill has had some health issues over the past couple of years which have restricted his mobility. I'm sure he will be in attendance at Camels games in the future whenever he can make them.

A interesting fact from the first half last night was the fouls or lack there of. I have never seen a high school game were only 3 fouls were called in one half and one team did not committ any fouls. GRC had 3 fouls and Campbell had 0. Not complaing ...just thought this was interesting. I rather see them let the kids play than to call ticky tack fouls.
