KYMSFA had kids playing 5 games in 2 weeks in their playoffs if they won a championship. They also had kids play 2-3 games a week during the regular season to get games in they had to to qualify for the playoffs. Not healthy. There were was also concerns of finances of the organization. This was brought up to KHSAA. They are going after all MS athletics as a whole because of this.

They also had kids play 2-3 games a week during the regular season to get games in they had to to qualify for the playoffs. Not healthy. There were was also concerns of finances of the organization. This was brought up to KHSAA. They are going after all MS athletics as a whole because of this. To clarify, only 2 teams played 5 games in 15 days during the state playoffs, 6 teams played 4 games in 15 days. Note that the semi finals are on saturday, and championships on Sunday, which has been discused in another thread. The KYMSFA has no control over teams regular season schedule, the only requirment to qualify is that they have 8 games for 8th grade, 5 games for 7th grade by the first week of October. Most teams start their regular season games around mid August, giving 8-9 weeks to get those 8 games in. Average 1 per week. Do teams play more than that, yes, again the KYMSFA has no control over that. Remember that the KYMSFA is not an all inclusive organization, meaning not every middle school football program in the state is a member. Only those teams that are members and agree to follow the KYMSFA rules (which are made by the KYMSFA members themselves) participate.

MS basketball limited to 24 games, no practice before Oct. 15th, season must be completed before HS districts(possibility of MS kids not being able to play up) 3 - This is the biggest - Title IX. Girls sports must align seasons, e.g. - MS volleyball must be played in fall, MS basketball must be played in winter and MS girls cannot play up either.

April 12, 201214 yr . . . . Basketball has a (MS) state championship tournament. This is not quite true. KBA puts on something that they call "middle school state championship", but it is in name only. MS girls "state championship" is in November over several week-ends ending with Thanksgiving w/e, which is prior to the start of some MS seasons! Ridiculous! The boys MS tournaments at KBA often conflict with the sanctioned district/regional MS championships, so participation is spotty and absolutely anyone can participate if they pay their $. Beyond all that, this year's 8th grade MS "championship" at KBA was a mess due to absence of over-sight/rule enforcement at KBA. Not to take a thing from Holmes victory there, but the event at KBA can hardly be considered a true "state championship". Just saying. These new regulations seem good, although I agree that our lawmakers have better things to do. . .

Are you saying that MS girls can not play varsity basketball? How can that meet Title IX guidelines when MS boys can play varsity basketball?

April 13, 201214 yr KHSAA wants no part of this but are being directed by Ky Board of Ed who is concerned about it. Why govt agencies continue to spend our tax dollars by doing the same job amazes me. Our tax dollars now will be supporting a middle ad, a middle school principal, a superintendent, a board of education a Khsaa organization ALL designed to do the same job. Pretty close to what I was going to type. What he said! Waste of more tax dollars. Schools should have enough sense to protect the safety of their kids.

KRS statue says that no body outside of Ky school board or its designee can prohibit 5th up from trying out for varsity team. They make this policy and some class A schools will not be able field teams. Just like a bunch of politicians to decide they know what is best for the kids in a community than the parents and school personnel of that community. And they wonder why our confidence in them is waning.
April 13, 201214 yr A LOT of schools are against this, but the KYMSFA or whatever it is and a lot of other football people has absolutely forced legislation's hands. Too much football is being played(I'll admit some schools play too many MS basketball games). NOT FOLLOWING HEAT INDEX RULES is #1 Playing 3-4 football games a week.
