Since no one seems to be clear on what exactly has been done, I'll just offer some hopes.

 

I hope that we have indeed seen the end of redshirting, which is a completely, utterly, ridiculous habit that wayyyyyyyy too many parents engage in with the fallacious idea that it will give their kid, against all practical odds, the upper hand in landing a college scholarship. Focus on academics, people. If the kid is good enough, he/she will get noticed. Trust me. It may not even cost you a mint on the travel-team and AAU circuit.

 

I hope that there is not, in fact, a rule in this bill prohibiting middle-schoolers from competing at the HS level in certain sports. Places such as Bardstown High School would be forced to shutter their softball program because of the simple fact that softball is on the low end of the totem pole at the school, and is unable to gather enough upperclassmen while competing for athletes with a marquee track program and a fairly solid tennis program. Hell, even in recent years, a school such as Nelson County, one of the largest in the state, struggled to fill out a golf team while kids flock to participate in soccer and volleyball.

 

Schue, this is a KHSAA rule that allows for MS to compete at the HS level. In order for this rule to be changed the KHSAA would have to change this rule not anything from the middle school panel.

It just says that task force will be developed to study the issues related to MS athletics. I guess we have to wait and see what their recommendations will be and how it will affect the MS'ers.

 

I've told you what some of the "recommendations" will be..........just a matter of if girl sport/basketball people can knock them down.
