I don't think the winning team hits 60. I think it is possible that the winning team barely hits 50. I believe both teams are better defensively than offensively and it will become a grinding game. I don't think Boone County needs McQueary to score to win. They need him to take good shots and not force it. If he starts forcing shots, then that is a problem. It is going to be those other guys that are the key in this game for Boone County - Schwartz, Carr, Palmer, Pitts. Liken it to what we saw in CCH over Holy Cross when Pauley and others had such good games. Boone needs one or two of their other guys to get it going offensively and that will get them the win.

Couldn't disagree more. Were you at the first game? If McQueary doesn't have a big game, no way Boone wins. He has been the difference in every big win for Boone this year. The win over Holmes he torched them for over 20. The win over Dixie he went off for 25. (It did help that Schwarts had close to 20 as well, but Zane kept them in the game late). The key is not letting Zane (and Boone) beat you from outside.

 

I think you'll see a different Holmes team and gameplan in this rematch. Holmes played a lot of their seniors in the first go around and honestly, Booher didn't stick with a rotation that you'd normally see. Bolden will get a lot more playing time this game.

 

I'd look for Holmes to pick up the defensive intensity.

My whole thought is that this game is going to be a defensive war and the point total will not be that high. Because of that, McQueary needing to score 20 becomes less critical. I don't think this will turn into a 32-29 game like a couple years ago but if the final is 46-42 it will be right about where I am thinking. If that is the score, Boone can win with 10 points out of McQueary.

And I can agree with that. If it gets into the 60's, Boone needs 15+ out of McQueary. Basically, the higher the score, the more points McQueary needs to score. In fact, along this whole thought, how McQueary is going for Boone County is going to dictate the game. If McQueary is getting open looks and hitting shots, the game score will be higher. If Holmes has McQueary locked down to where he is getting no looks, Boone will slow the game down and work harder for good shots. That will lower the game score.

 

That being said, if I am Holmes, I really want to press the tempo. The faster pace to the game, the better Holmes' chances of winning. Not because of turnovers. Because I think the more shots taken in the game, the better Holmes' chances.

I honestly think McQueary is one of those kids who will "will himself" to score and carry his team. I also think the two guards Stanley/Downs have big games like they did in last year's tourney.

 

I wouldnt be surprised if Rice goes off for 30 though and throws down a few nasty dunks.

 

I cant wait to see this game on Thursday before my Birds play.

Holmes is a streaky team when it comes to shooting. They will need to make 6-10 treys to win this game....then again, if they make 6-10 treys a game they head back to Rupp.

I think Boone wins in a low scoring affair.
