February 23, 201214 yr We all know the only reason this was overturned is because of the uproar over what would happen to the MVP award if he was suspended. Bud Selig also being in charge of the Brewers probably didn't play a role either...

The medicine in question? Valtrex. I swear I am not making this up. I read the medicine he was taking for a private ailment caused the positive test. Now some are saying on twitter the medicine is Valtrex.

February 23, 201214 yr Author From the article... Haudricourt says the appeal went Braun's way not because of the test result, but because of a technicality with the testing process. Independent arbitrator Shyam Das ruled in favor of the technicality, giving the reigning NL MVP the win by a 2-1 margin. Braun is the first player to have a suspension successfully overtuned through the appeals process. So what was this " technicality".

February 23, 201214 yr Some of you guys are acting like he tested positive for D Bol or HGH or something. :lol: I understand why baseball has enforced such a harsh testing system, but the downside is so many of the little things that are also on the banned substances list. Guy tested positive, I understand. BUT, I think what he tested positive for is a lot more important than what he actually tested. If this was something that wasn't going to give Braun a competetive advantage on the field then there shouldn't be a reason why he should sit 50 games. The way the rule is set up a positive test is a positive test so thats 50 games regardless of what the substance was on the list. There isn't just a two or three game ban that may be more suitable for a player who has a special circumstance and tests positive for some of the same things on the banned substances list that you can get over the counter. So with that said I applaud the arbitration committee as long as nothing comes out that he tested positive for a more performance enhancing type of substance.
February 23, 201214 yr The technicality is that the test collector didn't follow protocol. He/she thought that Fedex was closed so he/she took the sample home with them and stored it.
